Wishing you strength, peace, and opportunities for rest. I just dedicated
7 years of my life to caregiving for my beautiful, loving Mother. She had me very late in life so I spent my twenties and very early thirties isolated, with no help from siblings, caring for her. Her death on February 13, 2022 broke my heart irreparably. I have no significant other nor children of my own and the thought of creating a new life for myself is daunting. My Mother would have been 80 in May. I feel very, very alone in life 😕

She used to say to me that her children didn’t make her feel like she gave birth to 7 but to one. She surrounded herself with people who weren’t blood related as she couldn’t depend on her family.

I just lost my Mother last month after taking care of her for 7 years through her battle with Parkinson's Disease and Dementia. I was her only child that helped her in a caregiving capacity. My living siblings rarely called, rarely visited, and rarely demonstrated the love, respect, and affection our Mother deserved. I took care of her while also living with my own chronic health condition! My Mother used to say she sometimes felt like I was her only child. People should never assume that their children will have their back in old age and failing health. The amount of cruelty, neglect, and toxicity I saw my siblings be capable of will haunt me the rest of my life. 🥀🥺

She is giving, real (punt intended) and is very much a "what you see is what you get" kinda person. I hate to hear people going in on her about being emotional. It is NOT an act! I remember when she used to host the "Wanda Winfrey" show at Prairie View A&M University. One of the events that our sorority (Delta Sigma Theta) would put on as one of our community events. She would get emotional during those shows. So, I felt what she was saying...from past experiences with her and from my current situation of having no family of my own ( kids, husband, etc.). Loni, that's my story to the core. I just can't seem to find a step forward with being 20 steps knocked back. I am single never was a troubled child and tried to always do the right thing as I was always told growing up. Not having kids out of wedlock, going to school, staying out of trouble etc... But because I did everything right it only seems that I am being punished for doing the right things. To go to school when I graduated high school I was literally told that if I had a baby or get married is the only way I could get help or I have to take out loans. That is so sad I felt at times that I may have been a head in life if I would have done what I was told not to do. Only if you knew my story it's only by the grace a God I wake up everyday and keep pushing, not knowing most days how things and going to work out and not having family to help out. Someday all you can do is cry, pray and get back up and trust GOD at His WORD.

Your message is so so so similar to mine. My Grandma raised her kids that way, Mom and her siblings raised us that way.... you grow up, you go to school/college, geta job, dont have kids out of wedlock, stay out of trouble and so on. I too sometimes feel as if I'm being punished for trying to go about it the "right" way. And as a woman in 20s, 30s, I figured finding love of my life, kids will eventually come from that matrimony. But that hasn't happened. I'm trying to find content in being single, no kids & 48. Although daydreams of getting married are no longer that, I am still hopeful to find a mate (or he finds me) and have a committed and lasting relationship. Thank you for sharing. 🙏🙏🙏❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤

We have to compete with so many other things and entities out here in order to find the man of our dreams. I'm going to address the elephant in the room not only do black women have to compete with other women we have to compete with other women of other ethnicities also we have to compete with transgender women so it's like we may as well forget about even marrying a black man cuz nine times out of they will not choose a black woman especially if she's dark skin like I am like Lonnie is. I'm just saying. Lonnie is beautiful and I know I'm fine ain't no worries here. What God has for me is for me. I see Loni’s perspective but from a different lends. i think some people don’t realize that everyone does not have a community of people. Pavlov speaks of love and belongingness being a hierarchy need…but some ppl simply don’t have that. So, they do get old and live a lonely life. Everyone does not have that cushion or safe haven of family and friends. I’m a gay man living in the straight world and I work for a nonprofit that educates gay children. I can tell you that many LGBTQIA persons (or the alphabet ppl as so many like to say) do NOT have a sense of love and belongingness, especially in the minority races. So I see what Loni means when she mentions being alone or not having finances. I see it all the time with the children at my job and the people at homeless shelters where I volunteer.

I'm going to have to disagree with Loni a lil bit. It's not that black people don't prepare, but as a whole most black people don't make enough money to have a nice retirement nest egg set aside. Your average minority is just getting by paycheck to paycheck. You can't save what you don't make/have.

True, but I've also seen priorities messed up as well.....like prioritizing Jordans over rent and other material things where you can be using that money for a nest egg or savings. So it's a little bit of both. I do believe a lot of poverty can be generational.
For example, my aunt always made good money, but never saved. So her kids watched her do the same thing and they are careless with money after watching her.
I also remember my cousins clowning me for driving a VW car when I made 6 figures. I didn't need an expensive car and it was paid for. Sometimes we have to make better choices.

@@quickpstuts412 That might be somewhat true. But you have realize, when you have never had... some people can't see the future of saving $150 or not buying new clothes to look good for a change. Not to mention the system is built to cushion or cottle white people and their financial irresponsibility. They could be making $750k ...big house ...fancy cars and file for bankruptcy, no problem. It's how a lot of them got out paying bills and becoming broke, yet still be prosperous. The system didn't allow black people to falter and be able to bounce back like their white counterparts. And let's be real at the end of the day for an average person saving $100 here and there isn't going to be life-changing. I do agree that education and responsibility are key but realistically most people that are born poor ...die poor. There have been so many systems implemented to keep certain groups of people from building generational wealth that's it's a very hard hole to dig out of for the most part, with some exceptions of course.

Love what she said because a lot of us out there need to be educated on preparation: mentally, financially, our health as we age, if we are fortunate to do estate planning for our homes, real estate, other major assets, and more. I think if you hit your late 30s or 40s it's never really to early to learn how to build and prepare. 🙏 you girls of the REAL I watches your show almost every day from your first trial and I've been watching ever since and I'm loving it. When you CRY, I cried with you all too, and when you're happy I'm happy for you all too. I'm surely going to miss all of you. Blessings you all.🤗✌.
