Mark Packer DnD 4e is the Windows Vista of DnD. Sheldon liked Vista, so probably this is the reason. Even if the others wanted to play 3.5, he would have protested and they don't like that. That said, and bearing in mind that I learned the game on 3.5, I think it's very chaotic and mathimatical, practically begging to be played by powergamers. 5e is much better.
4th Edition has been proven to not be nearly as bad as many people tend to claim it to be, Alot of older D&D Gamers / Smarter ppl with MAsters Degrees I know hate 3.5/5E and love Pathfinder/4E/AD&D For whatever reason personaly 4E/3.5E Are my 2 Favs in terms of playing I have a decent number of people i know older / younger then me and its useoly the 30 year old's or younger that hate 4E

So whilst not a literal representation of the life of the physicist, it was a fair, slightly exaggerated caricature. I'd say that there must have been advisors or writers with a physics background. D&D is typically not played by physicists though, it's not something that appeals to them.
Listen. This is the best description of Big Bang. No actual idea of nerd cutler, bizarre and inaccurate sexism, no real jokes, an awful- AWFUL laugh track. (And I know it’s not a massive point, but they don’t actually roll damage...)
To be fair, while this show is hot fucking garbage, actual D&D is virtually impossible to make cinematic to a mainstream audience. Stranger Things did the same thing: they encounter a Thessalhydra, don't roll initiative, Will rolls a d20 to hit with fireball (which you don't have to do, the Hydra would have to make a dex. save), and they one shot it despite the fact that no, they absolutely did not, and they didn't roll for damage. Community did it pretty well, but even theirs was way off the actual game.
The best episode of TBBT for D&D is, The D & D Vortex, played at Wil Wheaton's house, but I love the impersonations that Howard does in this episode eh

I actually really liked this episode for how wholesome it was... For a group of people with relatively few shared interest, it was nice seeing them bond over a game of DnD and seeing them genuinely enjoy some parts of it together like that.
