As someone who keeps, and has bred corn snakes a few times. You hit their care spot on for the “pet owner” community. You did a great job explaining every aspect of their care in-depth. Overall very well done, this video is going to be a great resource for experienced corn snake keepers (such as myself) and novice keepers alike! Awesome job!👍🏻🐍

Since I had two snakes, I put one heatpad (with a thermostat controlling it) inside a pyrex container and buried it in the aspen mulch. Then I had an even bigger heat pad (also hooked up to the thermostat) which I siliconed an enclosure for at the bottom of the glass tank, using acrylic (couldn't find a pyrex container big enough for it so I made something custom). You might say about half of the tank was actually heated. I kept the two heat pads just around 87 degrees. The cool side was basically room temperature, maybe a little warmer because the tank insulates itself. I used the AcuRite 00325A1 to record the high/low temp and humidity within a 24 hour period. I took the front glass pane off the 150 gallon tank (4'x2'x31" tall) and built an acrylic sliding door for the front, for easy access (covered the top with a screen). I had a 10 gallon planted freshwater shrimp tank within this terrarium, sort of making it into a paludarium. The snakes could access the water there, which they did sometimes. This added to the humidity. Being in Florida, my humidity in the house was always around 55 percent, so I didn't need any sort of humidifier. They also had a water dish (ro water is like rain water) and three hides. I also had a bonsai tree inside (lighting coming from on top the screen), and some branches for them to climb on (I also grew a moss mat and pothos vine in there). I fed them twice a month, a mouse or two (the adolescent rats, which I tried a couple times, were a bit too much, so I went back to the adult mice). I fed them outside the tank, on the kitchen floor, so there was never any mulch being swallowed. It didn't cause any problems. My snakes never ever bit me and I could literally hold the mouse in my hand while feeding the snake, although, I only did that once or twice. I always waited about week after feeding to hold them (waited until they pooped). They would always poop again within 15 minutes of my taking them out of the cage, so I always took them outside in the grass (kinda like walking the dog). I took my snakes tree climbing almost weekly. I had two, a 5 foot and a 2 foot. The 5 foot liked to stay buried in the mulch. They had very different personalities. I miss them very much.

I can get a permit for Aussie species and you can get exotic birds but not mammals or reptiles. Except axolotls
Edit you can get marsupials with a license and without a license you can get deer, game birds, some native reptiles and birds, exotic birds and exotic fish. (Exotic being non native.)
Ps this only applies to the state of Victoria where i live, other states have different laws but only native reptiles can be kept Australia wide.

8:44 i know i'll prolly get backlash for this, but if an enclosure is too big for a snake it can feel exposed, especially if it doesn't have any "caves" to be in, but you always wanna make sure they can stretch themselves, that their body is at least the same length as the longest side of the enclosure. depends on the snake tho ofc but yea. have a great day/night, i hope i didn't get everything wrong, great videos you got going, wishing you all the best!

Hi there buddy and thanks for your great video. I bought my first ever snake about 5 weeks ago, a 2 year old male sun-kissed (I think) corn. I named him Syd Vicious, he's not at all vicious but he's definitely a Syd. He had me worried for a bit because he wouldn't come out of his hide until I found his shed whole skin in the vivarium. Now he's out and about more and a lot prettier. He gobbles his adult thawed mice down great and provides his smelly thing usually in the same spot. These are truly great snakes. You're doing well for someone of your young age so, keep it up buddy. Well done. Subscribed and liked. John isle of Wight, U.K.

This is amazing, every time I had a question you wound up answering it moments later. Better yet, perfect feeding instructions!!! So many people use percentages for most pets, which aren't great when it comes to measuring proportions. Thank you.

I’ve never kept a snake. I don’t intend on getting a snake. I’ve never held, or even touched a snake. I live in the uk where it’s freezing.
Me - Sits through a 30 minute video on how to keep a corn snake. Finds it fascinating, interesting and informative. Excellently put together.
    Thank you so much ☺️

i feed my snake outside of the enclosure. i know that it’s controversial, but i have never had a problem with aggression, he’s always happy to be picked up, whether it’s to hang out or eat. i use coconut fiber substrate and the long stringy pieces can get stuck to the pinky and stuck in his mouth. i also like because it keeps the tank cleaner, doesn’t get the pinky dirty, and it helps him develop a schedule. it really depends on the kind and personality of the snake. 🐍

I’m literally in the market for a corn snake, this video was great. My favorite part is when you talk about how content creators like to say that you have to have exactly this many hides and they have to be here, here, and here. Or they will die! When I’m reality these snakes don’t care what they’re hiding in as long as they are hidden and feel safe.

Its really not, like he said use a Tupperware type plastic container drawers that are like 4 or 5 inches high for a baby corn snake, by the time the corn snake gets old enough to have a fairly decent size enclosure you should have saved a good amount of money. Also things like heat mats, thermometers, substrate, water bowls, hides, and other decorations are actually fairly cheap. Also is a good excuse to get birthday, and Christmas presents from people.

I’m very new to reptiles so what I’ve been doing with my corn snake is feeding him every Friday I usually feed him a small mouse (not super small)and waiting until Monday to handle him again I was just wandering if someone could tell me if that’s good if I should feed him more or less I have no idea and can’t really get good answers
