Storm Kathleen GO AROUND & DIVERSIONS at Manchester Airport! 6/4/24

The first of a few very windy and unsettled days in the UK at the start of the month with Storm Kathleen causing the majority of the disruption. A low pressure system moved in from the Atlantic bringing decently warm weather that also happened to be quite unstable with Southerly to South Westerly winds with gusts exceeding 50 knots in some coastal areas. Manchester was forecast to receive potential gusts of up to 45 knots. The highest noted in the time I was there was a wind of 210 at 31 Gusting 41 Knots. Quite close to the predictions.
Due to the predominant headwind component the majority of arrivals on Runway 23R weren't too badly affected however the gusts did make it challenging for the crews operating into Manchester. We received a number of diversions from Ireland with the majority being Ryanair's from DUB with one from LBA as well. The highlight diversion was Aer Lingus A321neo EI-LRC operating into DUB from VCE, following two go arounds the crew opted to divert across to ourselves.
The one go around of the day came in the form of Ryanair EI-DCZ operating FR3223/RYR3UN From Brussels CRL. The approach became unstable within the last 50 feet resulting in a high sink rate. After initiating the go around the aircraft appeared to initially struggle to climb, perhaps a windshear encounter in the climbout.
