By far one of my favourite medley compostions. Its constant high energy and exitment is something that hasnt been seen since. Love how they didnt feel the need to drag out the strathspeys and airs.The only problem i have woth it is the dynamic rqnge of the drums but thats never going to happen with fmm pipe core being SOOO strong. Still to this day it has a place in my heart.
As a (former) tenor drummer, the thing I've always loved about FMM is that they actually use their tenors! They're not just there waving their arms around looking derpy, but actually playing the drum. So many other grade 1's just use them as props but not FMM.
Sublime! For me, the sig tune of that selection was the 2nd Jig. Amazing playing from the pipe section and phenomenal Ensemble. The switch to the F to introduce Mrs MacPherson was excellent. A superb performance from all the band.

Well, this particular medley is not bad at all, compared to some of the winners in past years, but I get what you're saying... the grade 1 medleys are usually just "showing off" for the sake of it... For my own musical listening pleasure, I'd rather hear a decent grade 3 playing "Balmoral Highlanders/Cameronian Rant/Little Cascade" than the best grade 1 playing some creative Canadian jig-cornpipe-pipecorn-tripe that I've never heard before... (Wow, you can change meters every 6.5 bars, and insert birls where they don't belong... Hurray for you.)
Last time i was at The World's (2011), I actually enjoyed the grade 2 band from France/Brittany the best... They sounded great, and their drum corps was REALLY tight, but they couldn't win, and the fact that they were specially allowed to wear trousers instead of kilts was totally blown out of proportion...

Wonderful performance but disturbing in that this is as close to Scottish independence as it gets, you can remember and put on a show but your conquered by the Brits. It's just like Native Americans and every other people taken over. Native Americans can thing they are sovereign but if everyone else left someone other nation would take them over. In this world, there is no true freedom nor in the world to come, everywhere has rules and not all will be pleased. Cultural diversity is nice but everyone should have stayed where they were instead of trying to take over other people's.
