Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. The two people that he loved the most are the people that caused him to turn into Saul. It's very tragic.
He decided to be like that. You can't put the weight of your decisions on others. Deep down, he liked to be Saul Goodman, he was good at it, and he was alive.
@@est.sar.9276 Here’s the thing, I don’t think he actually enjoyed it. Based on the last scene in fun and games, he seems like he’s living a hollow existence. He enjoys the thrill of scams, but he doesn’t enjoy hurting people. He’s an addict.
This reminded me of the last episode of Oz when Beecher told Chris Keller “You are poison, You are death” when he’s breaking up with him. Makes me think it might’ve been inspired by that scene.
The saddest part about this? Kim is right, she is the worst version of herself when she’s with Jimmy, but without Kim, Jimmy becomes the worst version of himself.

Not really. Look at her without Jimmy, her life is no life at all. I'd say her dead inside version in season 6 is way worse than when they were together.

This is why I think this was ultimately a selfish move on Kim's part. Together they could have changed their ways and done a lot of good, learning from their mistakes and becoming a net force for good. But instead Kim brushed Jimmy aside and went off to cleanse her soul, leaving Jimmy with nothing left to live for. Sad, really. Great storytelling.

She emphasized the word, because something trivial as "having FUN" caused an innocent man to end up dead. Someone they both knew personally and either helped them out or wanted to. It really went too far, and the guilt makes her realize how much of a bad influence Jimmy/Saul is.
@@JoaLoft I don't agree on one part. She did not exonerate herself by thinking that Jimmy is bad influence on her. She admits they both are bad influence for each other. Her idea of fun is in herself. Sure, it took Jimmy for her to discover it, but she knows she wanted it and nobody forced her. In fact, she made Jimmy take the prank on Howard to the next level, just as she did with the one on Kevin. They are both accomplices in the real sense of the term.

Jimmy is alone amongst his fate. People act like disconnection is virtue yet what he becames people say it's sad. But doesn't bat an eye that you all lost jimmy when separation was the best choice. Yeah, of course becouse it got it all wrong.

This is the first time they said "I love you" to each other but it's ironically heartbreaking when this is also the last time they'll see each other again.

@@dolgosraks We don’t know if they got a divorce. Remember, they got married partly so they wouldn’t have to testify against each other in court. Jimmy has a lot more potential legal trouble since he’s gotten involved with the cartel-he still needs the protection of the marital privilege.

The intensity of the scene is something else. The panicked breath in by Saul lets you know how terrified he is - trying to talk someone out of leaving you; a decision they've already made. Masterful, devastating scene.

Jimmy’s voice at “You make me happy” destroyed me
That line hurts even more when you can relate to it. A lot of people only have that one person that makes them happy and without them, they go downhill.

The tequila bottle has represented Jimmy and Kim's relationship. It doesn't represent Jimmy, doesn't represent Kim, but represents the 2 of them together. Here, Kim says 'together, we're poison.' That same tequila brand, Gus uses to actually poison Don Eladio and co in Breaking Bad.

@@APKAK-1465 That was definitely purposeful. They also played with the simbolism of the bottle stopper by having the store employee tell Jimmy that the stopper is pretty sharp, in the end of episode 6x06.
@@baraujo98 I don't think it was purposeful at all. One of the writing techniques employed in the show was writing with no foresight, and looking backward for contextual clues instead. I find it hard for them to plan this out so far back when they explicitly say they write like this (i.e, with no foresight whatsoever) in many interviews. It was just coincidental word choice. But whatever psycho-analysers, you do you.
@@EliteNormie Well, the tequila bottle (particularly the cap) is unquestionably a symbolic motif of the show. It's not psychoanalysis, it's literary analysis. Motifs drive central themes in a story, and when the camera closes in on that tequila bottle cap, or it becomes a point of focus time after time, that's not just "lol oops isn't it funny how we keep bringing up this bottle??" No, it's deliberate.
Maybe they didn't "plan this out so far back" as, say, Breaking Bad, which first featured the tequila brand as a medium for poison. However, Jimmy & Kim bonding over this tequila brand, along with both the camera's and the script's focus on this bottle, is definitely a sign that they intended it as a motif to drive the central theme of toxic social interactions and their consequences.
They don't have to use that much foresight, since they clearly made a decision early on to use this tequila brand as a symbol of Jimmy & Kim's toxic capers. It's all just been a steady continuation of that decision.

She never was meant for him, she is really the opposite of him profesionally and emotionally speaking. Everyone warn her about Jimmy but she didnt listen to anyone and when she hit rock bottom then she finally realized she isnt like that and this must stop.

Mr. Simpson, this is the most blatant case of fraudulent advertising since my suit against the film "The Neverending Story."
Your Honor, I contend that the plaintiffs should have been familiar with the saying “It’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt,” and that the defendants cannot be held responsible for their lack of knowledge. Therefore, we move for summary judgment.
Just love how complicated love be. Jimmy and Kim are truly soulmates. They love and defend each other. Without Kim, Jimmy becomes his worst self, but with Jimmy, Kim becomes her worst self. Howard was absolutely on point. Kim and Jimmy are basically the same person. They lie, they hurt, they destroy the world together. They love each other so much, that it’s their love that costed them everything in the end. Their relationship was hanging by a thread, but indirectly being responsible for Howard’s death, was the final straw.
It always shows how guilt can affect people in different ways. Kim’s response to guilt to run and leave the past behind, including Jimmy. Because she felt, she didn’t deserve to be happy with Jimmy.
Jimmy’s response was to become everything the world thought of him. Because he felt, he didn’t deserve to be happy with Kim.
It's funny how most of us expected the thing that pushed Jimmy over the edge to become Saul to be some kind of evil act of criminality or deception, but instead it was a simple breakup. And Saul Goodman turned out to be a coping mechanism.

I agree. He has coped on with Chuck and Howard undervaluing him, disbarred for about a year, survived hell in the desert, and Howard. Yet here, most of Jimmy's soul just died with this interaction, an interaction that has been the peak of both of their doings.
How good odenkirk is doesn’t get enough praise. This guy is incredible. The way he uses his voice to convey emotion is insane.

Literally the most relevant use of this meme. There was no one moment when Walt became Heisenberg, but this really is the moment that pushes Jimmy over the edge. He had his buildup like Walt, but because of this moment he loses everything inside
When he goes into the room to see packed boxes - that hurts. Thats such a real experience. You’re still trying to understand how you can try to make it better but your other half is already leaving.

man the beginning shows how much jimmy loves her. he knows all the clients close to her and knows how much helping these people matter to her.
Kim to me feels like a version of Walter that is able to look at herself and actually realise what's wrong with her and try to fix it as fast as possible
Edit: Whether it's to late for her to change is really up to the viewer's interpretation. Personally I think it may be too late for her.
But it was too late, the damage was done, an innocent man lost EVERYTHING he could possibly lose because of her.

@@matheuscruz8574 ehhh, what happened to Howard was awful, but that was Lalo, not Kim. Now, even if I wasn't oozing sympathy for Howard, publicly humiliating him in front of his colleagues was certainly wrong; however, as they state in the show, he would have bounced back from that at the end of the day. Lalo is responsible for the demise of Howard not Kim.
The silver lining of this scene is that Kim Wexler got away from the business and she is most likely safe. Not everybody in the BB and BCS universe can get a fresh start.

well kim stopped the second the line was crossed. but jimmy didnt so obviously eventually everything collapsed for him. if everyone in the universe stopped early they wouldve been able to stop
that "hey" before I love you. It makes me think that being straightforward and honest with his feelings, with no rhetoric games, no long winded speeches or anything, is somewhat of a new idea for Jimmy.
"That's not it, we're bad for eachother" Kim still believes in Jimmy. She's rooting for him still, even after all that she knows hes got a good heart. She knows that and believes in him and still has to walk away
God, I never actually care about on screen relationships, because they're almost always meaningless, but this being such a major turning point in Jimmy, now Saul's life AND being one of the last episodes of the BB/BCS world... Just gut wrenching.
The worst part is you knew something like this was coming. He couldn't be the saul we knew with Kim in his life. Some people thought she was going to die (I definitely did at some points) but this was equally as painful

If Kim died, say, defending Jimmy from Lalo, at least Jimmy would believe that there was one person in the world who truly loved him. He still would’ve slipped into the Saul persona, but it wouldn’t have been as extreme because he’d still feel like he had someone, in a way. He would have a reason to go back to being Jimmy.
But after Kim leaves him, Jimmy has everything and he has no one, and he has to live with that, except he can’t. He only has Saul left.

To Kim’s credit, other than Jesse, she’s pretty much the only major character in the Breaking Bad universe to actively feel remorse for the horrible things they did.
Mike does too, but he knows what happens if he stops in this line of work
I think it's makes such perfect parallel that both of them are the main characters partner, one get pulled in and the other despite expectation fall and join hand with their partner to destroy someone life, and by showing remorse, they find a way to get out
Kim, Jesse, Skylar, and Hank are the ones who feel the most guilt over the bad things they’d done.

Something about the way Kim says ‘I have had the time of my life with you’ hits me so hard. She says it so genuinely, she meant it and felt it down to her bones.
I got broken up with the same day this aired. So at least I was comforted knowing I wasn't the only one being broken up with that night.

The first time we ever hear them say they love eachother is when they are in a mifdle of a break up. The script is amazing.
Emotions are at their highest during a breakup. This is too real.
It's astronomically difficult listening to the inflection and tone he is using. You can tell that he knows exactly what she is going to do, but he is doing his absolute most to prevent it from happening. Heartbreaking.

For some reason that “ugh” at 0:36 feels so damn real
For me, this scene alone has the same intensity, shock, dread and sadness of Breaking Bad's S5E14. In a way, it reminds me of the final confrontation between Walt and Skyler in Ozymandias. Walt's destruction of his family and Saul's breakup show the exact moment where their lives reached a point of no return, when everything finally fell apart for them. Better Call Saul's S6E9 was very painful to watch as a whole unlike the other episodes. Fun and Games, at least for me, is Better Call Saul's "Ozymandias".

It’s definitely heartbreaking, but GOD do I love that she wasn’t forced out of the game & Jimmy’s life by death or otherwise. I love that it was something as simple and mundane as a breakup, yet still feels like the apocalypse in the context of the show
This episode was the ozymandias of Better Call Saul
This is the REAL finale of Better Call Saul, just like Ozymandias is the real finale of Breaking Bad in a sense.
The remaining 4 of BCS and 2 of BB are like an epilogue.
One of the toxic parts of their dynamic is that they found a way to escape their emotions through each other. Even when facing the end, Jimmy only admits "I love you" as a last ditch effort of authenticity to convince Kim to stay.
I really love that he was direct, didn’t do a speech or didn’t say something for manipulating. That “I love you” was very sincere.
4:10 Its great how he initially thinks she expected the worst of him, with the camera showing him in a very dark place. But as the story continues, its clear she assumed the best of his love, dedication and commitment to her. Jimmy's expression softens from anger to true sadness as he realizes she did something very selfish out of fear of losing him. In some ways, that hurts more, because there is no anger to hide behind, just the crushing guilt of the consequences of her choice.

Kim and Saul remind me of my ex-girlfriend and myself. We had euphoric times together, going to parties and doing drugs. It’s an experience you’ll never forget and can only have with someone you truly love. Unfortunately, I decided I wanted to grow up. I was tired of doing pills all day and night. Layers and layers of nuance and buildup aside I really love the simplicity of the episode title, normally they say it at some point in the episode but the way it manifests is Kim’s last line: “because I was having too much fun”
She says it like it’s the most awful thing they could have done, to have fun, and in this case it is bc the simplicity of the episode title is something that just about sums up all of the important events that catalyzed Jimmy’s transition into Saul, which is the idea of “it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt.”
I haven’t finished the series yet because I got done with this episode and the immediate switch into being Saul is too jarring and too sad honestly in the wake of this episode to immediately continue. So so so gutted Rhea Seehorn didnt win the Emmy because if it was ever in doubt before, she certainly deserved it for even this scene alone.
Hearing Saul say “you make me happy” is some amazing acting by Bob Odenkirk
This scene and the one right next to it make a perfect Jimmy/Saul transition. A closer for Jimmy who doesn’t have anything left for him and an opener for Saul who he can now be freely..
This has gotta be the most heartbreaking scene in all of BB and BCS. Everyone knew something had to happen with Kim but this is truly tragic for so many reasons.
Because of what happened as a result - this was essentially jimmy’s death as he became Saul full time.
But also because of what could have been. Kim could’ve helped so many people with her pro bono idea, and she was the one thing keeping jimmy from becoming Saul and giving him the only thing he ever wanted and never got from anyone else: love and appreciation.
Of course I understand it had to happen, jimmy was never going to become a straight, honest lawyer, and he had been slowly corrupting Kim over time unintentionally. But having spent so much time with them as characters and loving their relationship and their dynamic, this was truly painful.
This analysis made me cry more than the episode did

This scene was so incredibly well written and acted.. it was gut wrenching as hell.

3:40 one of my all time favorite lines in both Tv shows. That right there solidified Jimmy's attitude with Mike going forward. Prior to this, while they weren't friends they definitely had that kind of relationship, and Jimmy felt massively indebted to him for saving his life in Bagman. The way he asks her, "Mike . . Told you Lalo was alive?" You can just hear the taste of betrayal and confusion.
"We are [Ba]d for each other" - Kim predicted the sequel show title "Breaking Bad". Bravo Pete, you did it again. Take it from here, Vince.

Rhea eyes are so beautiful in that scene... all that sadness... the entire scene is a heartbreak.

For years watching this show I was convinced that Kim would eventually die and that would be the cement to hold Saul over Jimmy.
This was way more traumatic and painful.
If Kim died, Jimmy would remember her as the only person who truly loved him. The breakup sets Jimmy over the edge because Kim was the last good thing he had left, and aside from Marco, the only person that loved him as he was. Welp, not anymore! He has no one to go back to.
As sad as this scene is, I find it funny how the first thing Jimmy thought when he saw Lalo again was that he came back from the dead

anybody not gonna talk about how this was the final scene of Jimmy's story? And after this scene it's straight up breaking bad, it's just so sad how it ended.
That part about what would've happened if Jimmy knew that Lalo was still alive kinda got me thinking. Kim said that after jimmy would pull the plug from the scam and hide forever untill they are save, that they would break up. Why would she leave him if they didn't finish the scam, considering she did she scam so she could love Jimmy. Does that mean that she only loved him for the thrill, and that her feeling of loving someone was ruined by the abusive behaviour of her mother? And that she realizes only now, that their playing and fooling around togegher actually resulted in the death of someone.
I took it more as her fear that Jimmy would break them up to keep her safe by keeping her away from him and therefore Lalo and anyone else from the cartel. They were obviously in love long before the Howard scam.
I've been wondering about this since the first time I saw this episode.

Jimmy had the scams in his blood, but he could stop for a while or just keep to "just for fun" swindles on Ken Wins or whatever but on the Howard scam he knew it was too far and tried to talk her out of it... to Kim it was a drug, she wanted the risk/danger turned up to 11, and if they stayed together it would only get worse. You could see her being frosty to Jimmy when there were no scams. He needed to keep scamming to keep her on side
Jimmy did the scam because she wanted to. Jimmy himself said it would be complex and take lots of planning but Kim wanted it so Jimmy did it. She didn’t do the scam to “love Jimmy”. Jimmy did the scam because he loved her.
