She cheats on me, destroys our marriage, takes off with the kids to an unknown address and calls the cops on me. They came over and I invited them in for a chat. She had made accusations of me threatening her, raising my fist at her, stalking her, financially abusing her, you name it she claimed it, said she was scared of me. I talked calmly with the police, provided them with my side of the story, my evidence, told them about the counselling and the like. I didnt get an AVO against me, my solicitor said that means they believed me. I think she did it so she could access the escaping violence payment, and I think she took a shelter provided housing, because guess what the person who is scared of me did? Sent me a photo of a letter with her address clearly visible to me. She has continued to make more accusations, none of which are true, she has dragged her feet on going to mediation, because its going to actually end up in court.
Also there has now been multiple times when she has come to get the kids from me hungover, and they have come back to me injured, and the little one who is still in nappies with a blister on his bum, and just yesterday with scratches all over his penis and it being red and inflamed. I cant just refuse her to have the kids though, because thats how the law works at the moment, its stacked in her favour, she can make as many claims as she wants, with out proof, and I get tarred with that brush forever.

Last I checked, most intimate partner violence was actually mutually abusive. That is, both partners were violent to each other. In the cases where it was exclusively one-sided, women were far more likely to be the violent party. So that tracks with something like 75% of violence including violent women.
Men are both far stronger, and also greater risk takers on general, meaning taking actions in certain situations without fully considering the final outcomes, or being more willing to do extreme acts. This is also the case for suicide. Women actually attempt suicide at a higher rate than men, but the vast majority fail. Basically, men are more capable of extreme violence, towards themselves and others. But fewer men are violent.

My reference is to men murdering women, not specifically DV cases. It’s to highlight men have an issue with violence against women so you not agree? This video provided stats excluding QLD??? Do you not have an issue with that?? Comparing deaths to 1990 is an attempt to down play this issue. Comparing deaths this year to the same time last year more women are no longer here because of a man who couldn’t control his anger and took a life. It’s this attitude amongst Australian men that is the issue. Hold men accountable for their behaviour. I don’t care how many men have been murdered honestly because men don’t care about women so I have no more empathy for men. Men have murdered more people than woman ever will. That is the point you seem to want to sweep under the rug, and nothing will change unless men accept responsibility and stop covering for each other. Why so Aussie men have this victim mindset? The Australian Government refuse to acknowledge female-perpetrated domestic violence. A few months ago, a father came home to find his little girl deceased - his wife - her mother had slit her throat. The media and police fiercely refused to use the words "domestic violence" yet it was by very definition that. It was a family member perpetrating family violence onto another. All they did is talk about the mother's mental health issues. Boom. Never hear of it again. There's been several cases like this. It happens constantly and it's an absolute travesty. This should not be a gender-specific offence. Mother kills her kids in the blue mountains. It's always about her mental health. Never about DV. They don't afford males that luxury. They are tried, convicted and sentenced before going to court.

How many of those had their ex-partner make allegations (usually unproven by a court of law) of violence or child abuse to restrict their access to virtually nil or no contact? How many of those were mentally abused by their spouses or partners for a long period of time before they snapped? How many of those had their kids turned against them by malicious allegations made by their ex partners? How many were later or never given access to their kids by the courts?
I bet you those numbers are much higher than murder of females by males and that is where the real hidden crisis lies.

I have a son, and I take that stuff into account for him. His father has made him aware of it. The thought that a woman could stop him from seeing his kids is a scary one and one I hope he never has to experience.
His father and I separated when my son was 2 years old and other than a few disagreements between us around raising protocols, we managed to keep it friendly. He was never excluded from his son's life and never did I restrict access.
There are so many nuances to why this happens because human beings are not perfect. There are many reasons women restrict access to children and many reasons why they shouldn't however, I am against any made up shit that some women and men for that matter, come out with in order to 'win' the fight without taking the children's best interests into consideration.
I do feel there is still a bias legally around child custody and mothers. Nursing babies are one thing, but if a man has an adequate set up and the children can receive the care they need, then men should have a fairer sway in the courts than they currently do.
I cannot speak for everyone, nor can I make a blanket judgement, but there are things I have seen on both sides where men and women have used the children against the other. I used to work in Child Protection and have seen so many cases where the men have substance abuse issues, and the women and children suffer. I have also seen women call up and tell lies about their ex partners, in order to win custody at family court. In both of those instances I have mentioned, the reverse is also true.
What is the solution? I do not have one. If there were an accurate lie detector test that could be utilised in court or any disputes really, then that would be the only way we would be able to make the right call. This is not in existence as far as I know and both men and women can lie and have ulterior motives, so what do we do?

I found growing up that it is very easy to be alienated as a man. It drove me insane. I think it's based on this idea that I have the potential to earn the world's boons by my male privilege. So it has always been harder to get a job, harder to find social support, harder to be treated fairly in education and mental health services and harder to find adequate medical service because the act of me applying for anything is denying those same applications for the vulnerable, systemically underprivileged women. Each time the person who is meant to represent or allocate those services makes a point of letting me know this. I've had this issue my entire life and it is exacerbated in female dominated industries, especially in mental health, education, nursing, and social services. I've struggled with thoughts on it for years.
There were two UK studies that allude to this phenomenon. The first is that female teachers have a bias against male students if they know the gender of their students, and the second is that men are more likely to off themselves after speaking to a mental health professional. That second part threw a spanner in the feminist theory that men avoid services that help them - rather, that women have dominated mental health for so long the industry is wholly unequipped, or perhaps unwilling, to process men with mental health concerns or trauma.
Us Australians kind of took the feminist thing and continue to veer in to it without stopping. In Australia, raype is classified as an act of forced penetration - most cishet women don't have the parts to accomplish that unless it is an act of malice, so an act of non consensual smecks by a woman has a far reduced sentence and has no chance on showing up on Australia's rape statistic (you can imagine how people feel looking at the numbers). More recently, domestic violence has been redefined as "violence against women and children in the home", and that classification includes male victims. The trouble is, at least 1/3 of victims of DV are men, and we already have little to no services to provide for any of them.
Incidentally, there is not a single study focusing on male victims of DV and SA, so we have no idea what happens to male victims specifically after the fact. We only know that it happens. I've tried looking for them because you would think there would be at least one out there, but there are hundreds of articles, books and papers talking about female victims and not one specifies men unless it is within the context of male aggression.
We DO know, however, that victims of trauma and abuse usually traverse down one of four categories - drug and alcohol abuse, crime and incarceration, becoming abusers themselves, or self harm and/or "sewer side"; of these, men dominate all four categories consistently, and those numbers have an upward trajectory globally. Again, health services have no idea how to deal with men with trauma. I believe that there is no reason for anyone to think we should have services for men as they should, in theory, automatically be comforted by their privileges and culture-defined sense of superiority. We allocate services for the vulnerable members of society first, and if men are never defined as such under all circumstances then the issue of an inadequate system will exacerbate and the definition of a patriarchy will continue to be redefined as society continues to shift. We cannot continue to ignore half the population and forever brand them as brutish, uncivilized, toxic, fragile, violent savages, with everything the world has to offer at their fingertips, and call for action against them when we have no clue what is even happening to men.
Let's put it another way. Men have lower life expectancy, lower education, higher rates of incarceration, higher chance of death by "sewer side", higher unemployment, higher rates of drug and alcohol abuse, higher rate of homelessness (seriously, 80% of all homeless in Aus are men and social or emergency housing prioritises women without children before men because of the threat of violence against women but you're twice as likely to be murdered as a man), and a higher rate of mental health issues. The last time anyone pointed out those issues in any one group of people, it was due to a systemic problem that put that group of people at a disadvantage and the people that argued "it was due to their inability to co-operate" were rightfully branded as bigots. You'll have to excuse me while I question this privilege I'm supposed to have.

She took the kids claimed DV, refused access and isolated the children from him and all his family. She then took off in the middle of the night with the kids and nobody knew where she went. Terrifying her ex.
The police in QLD would not put an AVO on him and the courts threw it out due to lack of evidence. So she turned up in Victoria and immediately got a DVO put on him without evidence needed.
Family courts were useless and cost a mint.
She has turned the children against him and they refuse to cooperate with any orders.

    Three things:
the adoption of the Duluth Model by Australian agencies has contributed to the uptick in reporting and convictions for DV/SA that now do not require the burden of proof based on criminal justice to record a conviction. That might explain the divergence from DV/SA and homicides stats. If as asserted we're a 'dignity' based culture, many people would not report to police to avoid a stain being made public. As victim narratives become more valourised, of course reporting by women could expect to increase. It also is as divorce lawyer will advise, pivotal in nasty custody battles, just sayin.'
In respect of women selecting men from the underclass, i.e., men with convictions or 'form' for being nasty violent people. That goes into the too hard basket, along with women often preferring "bad boys" over nice guys, which is not folklore, but observable IRL and data too. What can society do about that exactly? Interested to hear?
Lastly, re: your stat data comparison with the USA for murder. If you take out the murder rates for the 5 worst cities for murder/100k (all democrat run cities BTW), the USA murder rate collapses back to being much closer to Canada.
I would have appreciated a comment on why Australia recently manufactured a crisis about DV when the stats are stable, and critical thinking indicates otherwise? What was really behind it? Just more craven funding for more Feminist powers ($100's of millions) to further emasculate ordinary men while doing nothing effective to educate or reduce the suffering of our women cohabiting with the low life, perhaps?

You clearly have NO idea what the Duluth Model is. It doesn’t redefine DV, it outlines its stages able an educative tool for social workers and others to use with vulnerable women to understand the pattern of their relationships.
The stats have remained the same. And we think that’s okay? When other measures of crime are actually going down as a proportion of population, DV is not. Women being killed by their partners is a crisis, should always be thought of as a crisis, and the fact that you guys will gaslight yourselves into excusing your murderous behaviour is absolutely insane.
Also, research shows us over and over and over again that women do not marry the bad guy, they marry the man they think will make the best father based on qualities such as kindness and mutual respect. Unfortunately, men lie and alter their behaviour to get women to marry them. This is why DV often doesn’t show up until after people marry and have children.

The issue at hand is not the actual violence, which I do not want too dimmish, but rather the politicisation of the issue and the associated lies, misinformation, misdirection, indeed the entire false narrative surrounding domestic violence. This is because domestic violence and its misrepresentation is a major weapon and strategy in the feminist and woke agenda.
Although feminists and the domestic violence industry does not want to admit it, domestic violence falls into one of three categories and all three categories are counted as equal when determining the number of DV instances. The categories are Feelings based, Situational/Issues based, and Ongoing/Never-ending.
Feelings based does not actually include any violence, its new, after the definition of DV was changed to include feeling threaten or coerced by mean words. It certainly helps get the DV count up and is often used by women and divorce lawyers as part of a strategy or even revenge. Today, I'd suggest to men to reciprocate and any time preventing or lessening access to children is mentioned, claim feeling fearful, threaten, and coerced.
Situational/Issues based is by far the most common form of physical DV, up to 85%. It is characterised by BOTH partners verbally/physically abusing one and other although ONLY the male the partner is ever prosecuted. This form of DV is usually issues based e.g. Promiscuity, cheating, jealousy, paternity issues, controlling behaviour, gambling, drinking/drugs, loss of job/income, financial stress and of course divorce and breakups. It's a domestic argument/fight and whilst there may be other arguments/fights it's generally not ongoing and generally not deadly.
The third category accounts for 15% of physical DV, is the most insidious and evil, it is one sided, ongoing, based on absolutely nothing and usually will not stop until you leave or are dead. It is the type of DV that makes the news, and the DV industry likes to pretend is indicative. Men and Women BOTH do it and are perpetrators in equal numbers, with females usually using a weapon with a sneak or surprise attack or waiting to he is asleep, drunk, stoned or otherwise unable to defend himself. Although the number of attacks may be similar, males take the life of their partner more often due to greater strength and capability. It is almost always only the male that is ever prosecuted. There are no services or sympathy for male victims and their children, only derision and false blame.

Greetings from Canada! This essay is a FANTASTIC example of how people have a "recency bias" in looking at trends and are SO quick to hit the panic button. While your example is a tragic one of violence aimed at women, I see a similar patter of behaviour in the manufacturing industry where we may have an incident of product failures and similarly people run around with the chicken little approach that the sky is indeed falling. By looking at statistics you can identify if things have gone completely out of the bounds of normal occurrences (as this essay did). Excellent work on showing how to gather information to calibrate a reasonable response whether it is a social issue or an industrial problem. Note: I am NOT making and equivalncy between violence and technical problems - just saying that people respond in the same way often with a huge over-reaction that often does not get taken away once the problem goes into the "normal" bounds. So if you put extreme measures in place to deal with a "seeming violence explosion" those measures don't simply disappear once people realize it is not a violence explosion. Gotta consider.

15:15 - Thank you for a thoughtful analysis. It makes me recall a telephone call I received when working for a shooting organisation.
Her "What do I do about my husband’s guns?"
Me "You'll have to give me more information than that?"
Her "My husband was unemployed. I told him, go and do something, anything. He did, he hung himself."
That was the edited form and I still remember the anguish in her voice. Why do I risk entering such a contentious debate? Because I want a reduction in homicides and suicides.
Few murders happen in isolation. You make the important point that most such crimes occur among couple known to authorities. Psychological violence is "equal opportunity." (I am not suggesting that the above incident involved such behaviour.) I contend that society can effectively trap a couple in a disastrous situation. Few women kill, but men don't just kill women, they escape by killing themselves. We should remember, these are all tragedies and seek mechanisms to assist in de-escalating relationships long before the outburst of violence.

Some common mistakes and omissions in this piece. Corrections below.
Guns are prolific in Scandinavian, France and other European countries with low murder rates,
Countries with African descended people always have high murder rates in this group. In the USA 52% of murders are committed by this group according to government statistics.
This has also been noted by Police in Melbourne Australia. Australian domestic violence figures are skewed by the horrendous situations in indigenous communities. Without this domestic violence would be much less statistically.
East Asian people carry their peaceful behaviour to other societies, where they are often a minority. They make people of European descent look like thugs.
Like Australia, the USA has also had a sharp decline in murders that is mirror image in proportion. The United States attributes this to brilliant new policing methods. Australia attributes this to restrictions on firearms. The reality is that most murderers are in younger age groups. The baby boomers got older and therefore committed less murders.

Very interesting, with utterly reasonable conclusions drawn from these data. Two things strike me: One is the relatively low (surprising to me) homicide rate for Italy - I wonder what conclusions could be drawn here. Are the data accurate, or is there something about Italian culture where violence stops just short of homicide? Two, is media (ab)use of the 'crisis narrative' (good term). Literally every week in the UK we have another 'crisis' of something. Perhaps the meta data could be drilled into to explain the rise of this term in widespread media usage.

The fact that I'm Italian is relevant only because I had your surprise and sense of disbelief about Italian murders many years ago, and since then I've checked the data over and over: Italy is a very peaceful country as for murders and violent crimes in general.
As for interpersonal disputes, we seem to prefer relying on the judiciary system (which basically means we prefer suicide over homicide 😂).
And as for the mafias, the main organizations have massively abandoned violence as a method; they prefer corruption, mostly peaceful drug dealing, investments in northern Europe... Criminal, but usually not violent.
