    I liked the scenes where Batman screws up. Like when he gets to the top of the police station he gets a little scared out the height for a sec. then gets nailed by the bridge trying to use the wing suit. And did anyone else see that he stalls the batmobile right before he takes off after penguin? I loved that stuff

    • @oneopinion6806
      @oneopinion6806 2 года назад +5

      I've seen people argue on the Batmobile part that he was revving and popping the brakes to further intimidate. The introduction of the vehicle, the slow windup of the turbine, that was so awesomely intense. That being said your view is what I had as well in the flow of the scene. At that moment watching I was like "wait, did he just drop the clutch and kill the engine?!" and then the chase ensued so I didn't think on it further.

      Always disliked how sterile they felt.

      My beef with the Nolan trilogy is the cheesy drama. “Why do we fall, Bruce?” “He’s the hero Gotham deserves, but not the one it needs.” They’re such unnatural lines that are trying to evoke an emotional response in the audience.

    I think you guys truly understood this younger and inexpert Batman. Also, his relationship with Alfred. I mean, we alk felt like there is something missing there, but he was avoiding himself to express love for Alfred. At the end he changes due to the fear of him possibly dying. I believe, if they do another movie, we'll see this duet as we know it

      I loved his relationship (or lack there of with Alfred) I think it was done purposely to not really have him show much appreciation or care forAlfred until he almost was killed. That bed scene was so emotional and it was honestly one of favorite parts of the movie. So many layers to that relationship. I love how uncomfortable Batman feels when he’s just regular Bruce Wayne. He can tell he feels naked and uncomfortable outside the suit

      Every scene was retarded, watch it again, all the cops shooting at Batman on the prevent like not worrying about innocent bystanders.. cat woman grabbing a gun like a gangster to kill her own dad, when a bomb exploded in Batman’s face and then he wakes up and starts beating up the cops has to be one of the most retarded scenes ever, apparently Alfred also survived a bomb but they always show him in the hospital while Batman cries to him about his own dad… I can go on and on.. oh and not to mention the obvious how the riddler character was complete butchered.. the penguin is taller than Batman? and obviously Batman is too small to play batman. Everything was butchered in the movie

    A lot of people complained about Battinson not being stealthy enough, how he basically advertised his presence with booming footsteps and I think they missed the point. Batman at the start is obsessed with striking fear into the criminal heart, so it’s almost like he’s building his own anticipation by letting him be heard long before he’s seen. He’s really just getting as much dread out of every thug he meets before showing his face

    • @ijeleo92

    For me Batman has always been the least interesting part of the Batman movies as his antagonists are always much more intriguing. This movie really made me realize that I don’t just love the Batman universe but I love the Batman character too, I just hadn’t seen a depiction of him in live action that I really liked. Christian Bale for example is obviously a great actor but his Batman looks kinda goofy to me. Robert Pattinson’s version made me so much more interested in the character, I love all the quiet eye-acting, there’s so much emotion shown just through looks and I’m really fascinated by this Bruce Wayne that hasn’t figured out the persona yet and hasn’t dealt with his trauma. (It’s my favorite suit as well, thank god they made his jaw fully visible and not just the chin)

    • @c_p_a_r
      @c_p_a_r 2 года назад +3

      Totally agree with you. There is something about his silence and stillness that is so powerful in a way no other actor portrayed before, something that even transcends his acting. Pattinson said in an interview that it was kind funny how people on the set acted differently around him when he was wearing Batman's suit. That says a lot about the signature he put into the character.

    I feel Bruce's disconnection from Alfred stemmed more from him being a victim of loss and trauma rather than as psychopathy. I recognised a lot of my own disconnection from humans following a loss in the performance. Still I get what you guys mean as there is heavy implication Batman and The Riddler are so similar, Batman just isn't a killer.

    • @NTWoo95
      @NTWoo95 2 года назад +5

      It’s interesting how so many people read this version of the character differently and it’s fascinating to read the differing takes.
      The Soup guys said Batman ignoring Selina’s concerns about sending her into the club was just that, him ignoring her. But I read it as he looks into her eyes, touches her face and the silence between them - to me anyway - was like a silent promise that he’d make sure she wouldn’t get hurt.
      Maybe I’m wrong but I just like that so many scenes have different interpretations depending on what the viewer is going in with!

    I view Bruce’s disconnection from Alfredo and those around him less as psychopathic tendencies and more of angsty teen syndrome lol. Bruce’s traumatic experience of watching his parents die has stunted his growth (amongst other things). Matt Reeves also did an interview where he mentions how he dove deeply into psychological theories and phenomena for Bruce this time around which just further cements my idea of regression and stunted growth. I mean, he even has the “it’s not a phase mom!” hair cut lol. I genuinely believe that this new installment of Batman movies will be about Bruce’s self actualization.

    I find it really interesting that the villains in this movie never fear Batman. Street thugs do but the penguin, riddler, and Carmine Falcone never fear Batman. I took that as Batman never really caring to get to know the real problems in Gotham. Carmine and penguin especially are at the heart of the corruption in the city and he’s only taking them down because riddler is leading them on the path to doing it. Great movie, I love how it has elements of year one and the long Halloween.

But there was a few very strange delivery in a few places, the scene when Batman escapes by punching him especially…but I think that wasn’t the actor, so much as the character. The character was playing that point as a bad actor if that makes sense. Also also….best batmobile ever, best portrayal of Batman for me.

    The only pretty big complaint I had was the Riddler’s rationale with the orphan jealousy bit. While watching I thought maybe the Riddler was connected to the journalist that Wayne “had killed”and that was his motive to kill Bruce and expose the lies. That would’ve been a stronger and more direct back story. Strong character, weak motive in my opinion. Other than that I absolutely loved the film.

    I almost felt like the unexplained relationship between Gordon and Batman seemed to imply that there was more of a story there. The way Gordon was protective of Batman throughout and that exchange of looks in the beginning when Gordon noticed Batman staring at the son of the first victim made me think, what if Gordon knows Batman is Bruce Wayne or at least suspects it. That could be really interesting, Gordon needing Batman for his skills but in return, watching Bruce sort of lose a chance of having a normal life.

    One of the interesting things about Batman is his rogues gallery and how they mirror him vast majorities are criminally insane and Bruce someone who is crazy but isn’t insane. I liked how The Riddler was inspired by Batman The Riddler would’ve killed people regardless but it was Batman who inspired him to essentially go big or go home and wear a mask.
    I agree this Batman universe needs more than a trilogy. 6 movies basically 2 trilogies would be great.
    Next movie for my non comic fans the villains and plot should be Court of Owls they are basically secret cabal of wealthy elite old money of Gotham founding families. They rule the city from the shadows shadows. They even have an army of assassins called Talons trained from childhood to be killing machines. Next movie I think Court main villains with Two-Face as a supporting villain.

    The best movie, (or storytelling,) antagonists, villains, aren't the stereotypical twisting moustache bad guys, just acting as a foil.
    There's a reason we appreciate villains like Loki, Thanos, etc.
    Because they're not villains to themselves, they see themselves as the heroes of their perspective. They're there to make the heroes become better versions of themselves.
    And, without the Riddler, the Batman wouldn't have improved himself. (Like Beau said.) 👍

Watching this has completely changed my perspective on The Dark Knight. Before I saw this movie I thought of The Dark Knight as a "dark" film but compared to this it seems so squeaky clean. I thought “but he couldn’t be able to do what he was doing without “any of that” money from Wayne industries.
    Cut-to #Batman at #Catwoman’s apartment - he see’s her PAST DUE bills -
    It occurred to me that #Batman didn’t know people had bills and couldn’t pay them - maybe he never seen a bill before. He was THAT removed from our everyday struggles - that’s why he grew up committed to his #Batman persona - he’s maybe even just now realizing not everyone has a billion dollars - or what having a billion dollars even means in society. He knew
    I’ve not heard anyone mention that connection - I’m hoping @NerdSoup can maybe do like a character development discussion - like in the when Alfred extends his hand out to Bruce at the hospital, you can see in that moment right before Bruce accepts the gesture he feels bad for all those years he treated Alfred as nothing but an employee.

    Batman had to be popular enough that Riddler thought if he got Batman’s attention they could clean corruption in the city together
    but I don’t get why he would then destroy the city

    Pausing halfway to say I am very in sync with Nerd Soup's reception of the movie so far. I will say on the runtime, I loved the movie, and I love drawn out movies as well (Blade Runner 2049 and Interstellar are favorites of mine). I didn't feel the time in the movie until the Riddler was caught. That felt like the natural arc of the movie and when the next action beat happened with the bombs I checked my watch because now it felt like we were in the bonus rounds, an act 4 of sorts. I do think what happened in that 4th act worked, but there needed to be a different way to set it up so that it didn't feel like we were starting up a second episode right on the heels of the first. Maybe if they got hints of the bombs in some clues before he was arrested--so that the interrogation would have some drive/momentum to get us to the big action spectacle. That and we didn't need 3 minutes of watching them drive their motorcycles around at the end.

    22:30 through there. Fuck yes, thats one of the things that I loved. He (batman) wasn't confident at being batman, but when it came down to it he is who he is and did what he had to do which is why he was dressing up in a costume and vigilanting the shit out of Gotham.

    Does anyone think he injected himself with venom during the final action sequence? I’m torn because if they have do have a trilogy as I’ve heard is planned Bane is the perfect villain for the next part but The Dark Knight Rises feels like it was too recent to use Bane.
