Rules:
No Angel Arms
No Tortures (except when required by the game)
No QTE on Jeanne
No accessory other than Bracelet of Time, Eternal Testimony, Moon of Mahaa-Kalaa, Sergey's Lover
No Crow attacks (especially OP if paired with Eternal Testimony)
No Heel Slide when in "Serious Mode" (produces WW)
Each chapter must be started with no magic
The idea of the playthrough wasn't just to challenge myself, but also to test the scoring capacity of the handguns. It's for this reason that things like tortures, crow attacks and Evil Harvest Rosary are banned. If most of the damage to the hardest enemies was coming through torture attacks, i felt it wouldn't be a "handguns" challenge as much anymore. The platinum requirements are pretty generous in most verses, which makes such a challenge possible.
About checkpoints:
I use only those checkpoints that are before or after an Alfheim, or followed by a cinematic cutscene. This is to prevent crossfading between different segments of gameplay. The only exception is a checkpoint at the exploding sphere (Golem chase) in chapter 9, i used a cut during it even though there's no proper cutscene. Also, i had to re-do bike segment in chapter 8 and first segment of chapter 15, so the final chapter results shown may differ from the sum of all verses shown, sorry for that.
About the used accessories:
Bracelet of Time. A must, a great tool that provides just enough flexibility to make this challenge possible for me. Without it, the main problem would be that most strong enemies parry handgun melee attacks too much. If comparing BoT with Tortures, i think the latter is much more OP, as it can almost kill a Joy, whereas WT worth of full magic meter isn't enough to kill her with handguns.
Eternal Testimony. Increases the effectiveness of BoT, allowing WT to be added to attacks at almost any moment. Since there are no WW, i don't think it's too broken though.
The Moon. Ideally, the parry would also need to be banned because reflected projectiles can be very strong. But that would make the game very frustrating in some places.
Sergey's Lover. Increases melee potential by 3 times, but it's still the same handgun attacks that are replicated, so i think it's a very suiting accessory for a weapon-themed challenge.
Why no Gaze of Despair:
Not that i wanted less challenge, it's more that it makes melee on normal enemies almost unusable. And also to get a better feel of the combo requirements.
About the handguns:
PKP (3rd punch always extended) is the highest DPS combo overall, so it's used a lot in tough fights. PPPKKK is also good DPS and the sweep kicks are very useful against humanoid enemies. Heel Stomp is quite broken with its stun effect and can be spammed against most enemies, i tried not to abuse it too much but it happened at least 3 times. Uppercut Punish attack can be OP, but this attack is a property of the weapon (not every weapon can do it), so i think it may be used occasionally. Bullet Climax and Breakdance have surprisingly good DPS, but are bad for combo. Aerial leg spin is the opposite, the best move to rack up combo points for low damage (unless near wall or tightly packed enemies during WT).
Random chapter comments:
V - the reason why i'm cheesing Fearless&Fairness and skipping the other angels in the verse is the goddamn 3 Joys ahead and the amount of retries they need for a cut-less segment. About Jeanne fights in general, i wish i could have come with more interesting techniques than "wait, dodge, PKP+WT", but the thing with Jeanne AI is that if she sees Bayonetta attacking, she'll always try to retaliate with an instant stiletto/heel slide, that is impossible to react to reliably (at least on PC speed) and will always kill "no damage" at one point or another. So i found that waiting and dodging is the only thing that works reliably for my modest skill level. Only the super fast WW uppercuts remain as extremely dangerous.
XII - combo requirements for Verse 1 and also the angels inside the turbine are pretty tough without finishing off with tortures, so i randomly decided to cheese the 2nd one, and it happened to end up as a successful segment.
Epilogue - very tough combo requirements for statue breaking and the final credits verse, they're clearly not meant to be played without WW, and even then enraged enemies are probably a must for the final verse. Aerial leg spin is the only move that makes them barely possible.
And here is me using absolutely EVERYTHING to my advantage and still getting Stone Awards 😂
You’re probably slow in your methods
Lol sameeee 😭
Same hahahaha
I only get gold, i barely do any plat 😭
I think you gotta do Alheim battles as well.
The alternative universe where Rodin didn't finish scarborough fair in time and Bayonetta had to go through the events of the first game with rentals
I played this through getting platinum on all ranks and pure platinum on the bosses.
Never on all the chapters though.
I gave up in the end. It is hard. What you have here is dedication and sheer brilliance. Well done and thank you.
And to this day, this game remains to have the hardest climax mode ever made. GG for completing it.
Agreed.
How so?
@@TheUltimateNatural not being able to witch time is a pretty big disadvantage, not only that but for 2 and 3 you can use lollipops without any penalty while here it directly lowers your final score.

But she still got hurt
Could you do this challenge, but without using any accessories at all?
@@legendarybroliz4578 nah, wonder if it's possible, for me for sure not. The main problem is that pistols close range attacks don't connect properly with most enemies w/o Witch Time. So what's left, relying exclusively on Tetsuzanko, Heel Stomp and kick air spin? Maybe possible in theory, but i'm not up for that.
@@_b_1_ that's fine, this video is still close to my Bayonetta impossible challenge.
@@legendarybroliz4578 what is "Bayonetta impossible challenge" , an actual video or just idea?
Dude, you are freaking insane.
Your skills are perfect.
Would Rodin be extremely impressed with the human who made the pistols that lasted Bayonetta the whole game without breaking?
Rodin made the handguns
I’m pretty sure he didn’t. Didn’t he only make Scarborough fair

Bro you are one crazy dude, really went all out in this game, if possible pls make more bayonetta vids, like pure plats with other weapon uses, other accessories, Jeanne fights with just the gaze of despair pure plats and other bosses, but the ultimate challenge I have for you is rodin gaze of despair guns only with no butterfly protection, I respect your amount of patience and skill level, I think your awesome and have a great job on this game pls one more time make more vids and keep the good work 😉👏
Oh hell yeah those are great ideas!
I don't understand why chess and billiards and golf and etc. are considered respectable if you become a master at them, but that's not true for video games. I can appreciate skill in anything people do, and this is impressive skills going on right here. I'd imagine b could manage your challenges, and with style. :-)
It's very fun to actually use the Handguns since it's like an extra challenge.
Thanks for the positive comments, but i'm really bad at Rodin, and there is already an outstanding player who did this kind of challenges with that boss fight. My pistols run is really nothing compared to the level of skill shown there. I really need to finish editing my Odette run though.
@@_b_1_ omg! You have an Odette run????? You must be the most dedicated Bayonetta player ever. Wow. I'm kinda emotional. Hahahahaha.
@@_b_1_ I assume you mean n472a?
I bow down to thee. I aspire to be that good at a video game that I love, Bayonetta. I've only played it casually for so many years and didn't even know the existence of dodge offset a couple months ago. I'm still a rookie at the game if you will, and can't even get past the hard difficulty, but, it's a treat and a pleasure to see good players like you challenge themselves and show what they can do to the max!
Do you know any good guides about how to get better at the game, how to use properly the weapons, which one is good against what kind of angel, etc ?
Future Press guide for Bayonetta is pretty great. Other than that, youtube is probably the best source, many great players here, sometimes they create small "guide" videos too.
One of the most satisfying Bayonetta vids out here.
Nice to see the hardest difficulty without auto-combo or infinite fists. I wonder though, is it possible to do the hardest difficulty on a new save? Would be interested in seeing a "Cinimatic" hardest difficulty that still included cutscenes and progression of a normal let's play, combined with the flawless and stylish combat of an ace player.
i've been thinking about this, new save with pistols only, that is. Lack of Bracelet of Time would make it brutal, however if i allow myself to use virtually everything (other than non-pistol weapons) - angel arms, tortures, crow attacks, the pearl item, allowing checkpoints between each verse - then it may be doable. I wonder if including cinematics would be a good idea though, especially if i end up doing splices between each verse which interrupt gameplay.
@@_b_1_ Ah, I would say non-pistol weapons should be fine too, it's just that you have to acquire them first. After all, you don't even start with the ability to block either; better take what advantages you can get, and I doubt they make that big a difference alongside the rest of that anyways. Of course if you did tough it out anyways then more power to you.
@@vadandrumist1670 that's an idea too, but i'm afraid that it would quickly become similar to a "new game+" nsic platinum playthrough after you get the shield accessory, the first few weapons and a few "must have" techniques. So it would only feel "special" in the first few chapters.
@@_b_1_ I would say that would at least partially be balanced out by a lack of grinding, meaning that you'll still only get the base of what you need later on. I would also say it's the concept of progression that matters, and reaching those milestones of power are what should be looked forwards to.
P.S. The channel "SSSmoke" recently did this exact concept with the streams "DMD from Scratch". While it's certainly it's own beast (what with three characters and all) I feel like it does a good job showing my point.
P.P.S Another idea then would be a "use what you get" gimmick, where your second weapon set will always be filled with the most recent weapon(s), and new accessories must be equipped with the oldest being replaced. That way the playthrough would be filled with variety as your moveset and weapons continually shift.
@@vadandrumist1670 so with "use what you get" i'd have to be using kilgore for the entire second half of the game, and the accessories are all in the shop so it's not clear what the purchase order would have to be. This gave me another idea that could be interesting - play ng+ but use some kind of randomizer that randomly picks weapons and accessories for each new chapter or even each new verse and each boss phase to ensure the max variety, that could be fun.
I don’t know what you’re saying but I agree
I don't get tired watching this. Damn, so great.
I prefer the way she doesn't use summons in battle, but uses them only during intense moments and cutscenes. It feels more like bayonetta's canonical power, that she doesn't even consider needing to rely on them.
I cannot mentally fathom being this good at the game. I spent all day getting pure platinum on the second mission because I kept pressing the wrong button at the final QuickTime event. Nearly drive me insane.
FR I HATE THAT ONE I always get confused and press e too early, stripping me off the platinum and gold's I earned
I never thought about using the Bracelet of Time and Eternal Testimony together ooh
I've been playing this game again and decided to see How a pure Platinum only Run looks like

Man. Imagine how dull trying to do this challenge would be in 3 with it's crap handguns.
1:31:16 what
How tf do you do this without even getting hit once. How many tries and resets does this take?
Tries and resets?
@@legendarybroliz4578 Trials as in practice.
A lot. RNG could be really a dick. People thinks this walkthrough has not resets or retries, but it has. But it not make it less impressive, the player is really skilled and it's not easy to achieve this record, and he makes it harder because he goes only guns, he has extra credit for that.
I cleared all pure platinum on Bayo 1 and 2, and I have a demo video of first stage only of witch trial V, that one and Rodin are the Ultimate test of skill in this game. No matter the method.
This video has way too few views. Awesome job
Never tried it but is it possible to Pure Plat NonStop InfiClimax with Scarborough Fair only? I'm afraid you either not do much damage outside wicked weave or end up killing angels with it before you racked up your aim combo points.
It is possible you use the accessory that can cause the enemies to become enraged to have the bigger ones with mostly something akin to a superarmor.
They also up the combo counter a bit more and of you want set it up that you dodge cancel out of wicked weaves so that you can hit them more without killing them quickly. And also don't use bullet arts if you want to not kill them quickly...
I think it is fairly possible. The NSIC level demand for combo points is lower than in other levels exactly because they knew it wouldn't have the bonuses and oportunities coming from Witch Time. My guess is that, in a sense, for a master player, NSIC is easier than Hard and Hard is easier than Normal.
SF is actually one of the best weapons for this challenge, it's very combo efficient. I may do this one day, but with "no accessory" and "no magic use" rules (no tetzu/stomp, most notably). Just playing with SF anyhow would be too boring and generic.
Isn't that a step down from this video? This is basically SF but all the Wicked Weaves are disabled and ever so slightly reduced range
@@lowhp_comic just read this reply now haha. What you said is true but in my defense i was thinking of bullet+wicked weave killing things much much faster. I tend to hold buttons alot specially using SF so... i end up killing some small time mobs unintentionally. Got used to the bazooka long hold too much since it's my go to weapon coz even if it kills things very fast, the multiplier it gives is very good unlike stray gun bulletsxD
I love how hard is mostly stone. I feel better that so many pure platinums still have some stone in there. Maybe I’m not the worst Bayo player :’)
these visuals are crazy
Not sure if you still respond to comments but I was just wondering if doing this sort of run would be useful or viable for those new to the series. Not looking for something to carry me but I'm not looking for an otherwise impossible challenge without previous experience with the game. I feel pretty intimidated by the game that I can't start playing it blind.
Not sure if i understand the question. Are you wondering if doing a challenge run like this would help you to get good at the game quicker? Absolutely not. I assume you're playing on Normal? I felt intimidated by the game too when i first played it, but i can recommend doing what i did, i think it worked pretty well for me - ignore all the weapons, all the combos, all the accessories (except Selene's Light if you want to make it a little easier) and all the techniques (except air dodge), play with just Scarborough Fair and just PKP combo (on big bosses can mash PPPPP or PPPPK though), then start dodge offsetting it. If enemies give you trouble, temporarily switch Scarborough Fair to Shuraba (its PKP is pretty overpowered). I think starting with PKP is great because it teaches the player to not mash (e.g. PPPPP), maybe the devs put it first in the combo list for this exact reason. While learning dodge offsetting, also try to get used to the hold function (holding P or K during the combo for extra gunfire), extending the last P in PKP is especially powerful. Once you feel comfortable dodge offsetting and using hold function with PKP, can add a new weapon and/or a new combo to your gameplay (preferably PPKKK or PPPKKK, ignore those with pauses at first). One step at a time.
@@_b_1_ Thanks man, this is what I needed help with before I started the game. Much appreciated.
The hardest part for me is always sending Jubileus to the sun, I keep failing a ton in hard mode and I still haven't tried it out at NSIC...
You can just close the game when you see that she destroyed a planet
Impressive playthrough.
Holy shit, ma.
that was impressive fighting and concentration.
Unholy moly this challenge is hard, even if I don't limit myself as much as you did. Every triple Joy fight is the least enjoyable encounter.
I just finished chapter 16 and this was... brutal? Balder is literally broken. He is worse than Sloth in Bayo2. I fought him using checkpoints and it still took me 2 hours to beat him with no damage.
I didn't know bracelet of time worked in non-stop infinite climax. I thought it'd be disabled.
It took me a 10 plus times to get pure platinum on normal mode vestibule
How do you punish enemies like 0:28?
Isn't your combo score supposed to rapidly decay if you don't constantly use wicked weaves? How'd you get around that?
there might be some exceptions, can't remember for sure, but the general rule is that if your "would-be-Wicked-Weave" punch or kick connects, it resets the combo like a WW would. There are also some non-WW moves that reset the combo, for example leg aerial spin and panther claw attack.
wow...! not to be dramatic but how is this even humanly possible O-O and here i was getting gold awards on normal thinking it was good lmao

Idk. I noticed in the beginning that it seemed like you got hit. Sure u weren't using invincibility?

Do this same challenge in bayonetta 2 using normal weapons.
At around 5:01:43 you got hit by baldur but took no damage! It was a launcher. Is that an unavoidable hit so it doesn't do damage?
5:01:57 actually
It's not unavoidable but it just doesn't do damage for some reason, there are a few attacks in the game that don't do damage
One of these days you should try a run with only the Rodin.

Any possibility of a Scarborough Fair only run in the future? :)
Maybe, but i think that would be too easy and ordinary, i'm more interested in trying some of the less common weapons. Also, Odette+SF video is on the way, so it has almost as much SF as it does Odette.
@@_b_1_ Ah I was just commenting on your newly uploaded video XD But I see :3 It's just that I never saw anyone doing that with SF only since I do believe it highlights the true potential of the combat system via Dodge Offset.
Why aren’t you playing the mashing mini games that pop up?
SF BS Late reply, but I assume it’s to prevent combo build up from sources that aren’t the handguns. The purpose of the challenge is to see how viable the handguns are at combo building, those mashing segments give a lot of combo points so I assume that’s the reason.
Is this harder or DMC1's DMD! mode?
Wait what
I wonder how many controllers you changed to get skills in this game?
0:28 do those not count as torture attacks? The combo point thing says TA, I'm confused.
Well, the crucial difference between that attack and TA's b is avoiding is that during that attack you still can get hit. The TA's b is avoiding are the ones you press Y and B and that takes time and enemies wait during the animation. So, it's fair.
@@samucabrabo True, also this attack could be considered a property of the weapon (not all weapons allow it)

60 fps is easier
Not having played 30 fps myself, my guess is that 60 is harder because of the faster animations alone, so the attacks of enemies like Jeanne and Joy are even harder to react to. Not to mention that some QTEs are really hard to do because they were balanced around 30 fps (i don't use them in this video though). To anyone thinking that the game is easier on 60 fps, can you explain why?
@@_b_1_ In 30 fps there can be input lug like it has in Xbox 360 and PS3 Dark Souls 1/2 versions. In 60 fps it's much easier to doge.
