      Pure Platinums of all the story chapters aren't actually that bad. More tedious than anything because you can restart a verse immediately if you take a hit. As long as you're confident about comboing and have an idea of each fight's time limit it's not too bad as getting hit just means a quick restart and try again.
      Lost Chapter however demands all 5 verses be cleared without any quitting to menu and continuing. You gotta do it all in one sitting, so it can be said to be the real test in the game. Getting a Plat time in Lost Chapter is easy, Plat Combo is pretty manageable as long as you don't drop combos regularly, but getting through Lost Chapter without taking a single hit is the single hardest challenge in Bayonetta do achieve. You can play it for an hour, get to one of the incredibly tough final fights, and blow the attempt there, basically meaning all your time spent getting there was for naught!
      Don't feel obligated to Pure Platinum this if it is too frustrating. Just beating it is a significant challenge as it is and is a ton of fun.

    Are you okay? Are you crazy? Why would you do this do yourself? I know some differences between bayonetta and jeanne; jeanne has more damaging wicked weaves, only gets witch time by moth within (but does jeanne's witch time last longer than bayo's?), takes more damage, more combo points (in and out of witch time?) And infinite dodges. Does the rosemary accessory really not work when you play as jeanne? Also your a mad god at this

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  4 года назад +25

      I am a bit crazy, yes. But it happens to be the most fun chapter in the entire game so I've spent a LOT of time with it.
      Jeanne's main disadvantages are the lack of magic gain, that slowdown effect, or the ability to trigger Evil Harvest Rosary on normal dodges. The magic losses from that add up in longer fights and mean you need to manage your magic in other ways (taunting, Afterburner Kicks, equipping Gaze of Despair). She also doesn't trigger Witch Time on normal dodges, only Moth Within (same goes for Evil Harvest Rosary, only comes from perfect dodges).
      The main benefit is her massively higher Wicked Weave damage. For a challenge like this where getting the requisite combo score and time are really not too tough, the main difficulty is just not getting hit. And her enormous Wicked Weave damage is a huge benefit for the serious encounters.
      Little King Zero is a much harder character to Pure Platinum this with, because of his significantly worse usage of the key accessory, Pulley's Butterfly. His only benefit (improved magic gain particularly when using guns) is fairly minor, especially in stuff like the Jeanne/Rodin fights where they block all your shots or don't give you much magic for using Bazillions.

      Jeanne only gets Witch Time from Moth Within or Perfect Parries. Deliberately going for those is unnecessary and simply risks getting hit. Essentially, Witch Time is a bonus for Jeanne when it triggers, but isn't a necessity. Her 50% damage bonus to Wicked Weaves is a huge advantage for the bosses.

  • @BasedJuju
    @BasedJuju 4 года назад +2

    Nice run, wasn't expecting it to be recorded and uploaded so soon. One question though. What did you remap the button for weapon switching to since the LT is taken? Your control scheme sounds like its reminiscent to DMC controls.

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  4 года назад

      I use RB / R1 to weapon swap, that way I can use my left hand to lock on while my right index finger can focus entirely on dodging. It's possible to use the A button when holding lock on to dodge too, but it's less reliable since if you press it accidentally without holding a direction, you jump straight up without dodging, and in the air holding lock-on while pressing A only jumps, even if you press a direction. LT to lock-on + RT to dodge is much more reliable and means you always dodge in any situation when you hit RT (if you prefer you could also remap dodge to RB or something). It's unfortunate the console releases of the game do not allow control remapping.
      I also have Stiletto and Heel Slide disabled so I can't input them accidentally. That way, any time I'm attacking something, I can be mashing forward to try and parry during the attack without Stiletto or Heel Slide interrupting the combo. Unlike DMC, Bayonetta doesn't reliably stagger enemies with basic hits as much and fights effectively at a distance from enemies, so rushing in close is often quite dangerous. There are some exceptions though: Enchants (the wheels) are staggered by just about any melee attacks, Harmonies (the stingrays) can be easily interrupted with Afterburner Kick, and Dear + Decorations (the cherub heads) get messed up by gunfire quite easily. Kilgore's melee hits are also exceptionally good at staggering Jeanne and Bayonetta clone (as long as you don't taunt them) and staying in their face is safer than staying at a distance usually because at a distance they have a much higher chance of busting out their finger snap Wicked Weaves without warning.

    Why do you use Infernal Communicator to limit yourself to two butterflies near the end? Does Pulley's drain magic slower if there's fewer active?

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  3 года назад +5

      It doesn't just drain slower; it drains WAY slower. I also purposefully take hits when I have a full set of butterflies if I know the attack does like 3-4 butterflies worth (trumpet shots take 4 for instance) and I want to drop the number of butterflies down so I don't have to pay so much attention to my magic meter. And it's also why instead of reapplying Pulley's Butterfly, I'll just run to the next verse with 2 butterflies active. In general, the magic drain with only 1 or 2 butterflies is extremely low by comparison to the full 5 butterflies and is easily managed, plus you can quickly reactivate it if need be.
      It's also why Little King Zero ends up burning tons of magic in key fights compared to Bayonetta and Jeanne. He's always forced to use Infernal Communicator when using Pulley's Butterfly, which gets you 2 Little Devils and 2 Butterflies, draining magic quickly while protecting you very little. It also wastes time and magic since you have to first turn off his innate Infernal Communicator any time you want to reapply Pulley's Butterfly.

    Why do you always avoid countering Bayonetta's attacks when prompted. Those are the most fun parts of any Jeanne fight, especially if you're good at mashing.

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  4 года назад +8

      Because I want a Pure Platinum, and they're way too hard to win reliably at NSIC difficulty.
      If you look at any serious Pure Platinum run of Lost Chapter (or indeed, NSIC fights vs Jeanne in general), the rule of thumb is to ignore the prompt and dodge, since you have to fill the entire bar to win it in Hard/NSIC (you win it in Normal Difficulty if you fill it to at least where there's 2 unlit orbs), and an active Pulley's Butterfly DOES NOT ignore the damage on failure. It is possible to parry the punch one if you fail it, but not the kick one (might be the other way around, I know for sure you can parry one but not the other on a failed attempt).
      It's already hard to win the mash on the PS3/Xbox 360 versions, but on the versions that run at 60 FPS the mashing vs NSIC Jeanne/Bayoclone is even harder to win. Using a rapid fire setup is the only way I feel comfortable winning these honestly, and when not using rapid fire there's no reason to risk blowing a Pure Platinum to a difficult button mashing challenge you can disregard. The "good" button mashing in the game is the stuff where you can't lose (you just get a halo/damage bonus for winning) whereas the Jeanne button mashes are way too hard on the higher difficulties to be worth risking. There's not even that much benefit in winning them either aside from some bonus damage and score. Either dodge them, or use rapid fire to guarantee you win them.
      The Little King Zero run of this chapter I did engages all of the Jeanne mashing prompts with rapid fire, because it's too hilarious to pass up seeing LKZ punching away.

    Why?

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  4 года назад +2

      Jeanne does not have a unique version of Bazillions, hers are named and look identical.
      The hand version of Bazillions has these powerful but slow charge lasers that are awful for combo points compared to the rockets. The feet version are functionally identical to Scarborough Fair, but with buffed damage, and an unblockable property against certain enemies that normally block shots (Joys, Jeanne, Balder, Rodin). The problem with Bazillions I found was against Jeanne, she'd react to the Bazillions hits by dodging and running in to counterattack. If I'm using Scarborough Fair, she'll instead often stop what she's doing to do her blocking animation.
      When using Kilgore on the hands and Scarborough Fair on the feet, you fire both rockets and gunshots with your kicks. So what happens is you can attack her with PKP or PPPKKK and your SF bullets hit first, Jeanne tries to block, and as she's blocking a rocket blasts her in the face. It sets Jeanne up for eating rockets in the face and I found was safer to dodge offset around with instead of enraging her with Bazillions shots.

      @@BareKnuckleRoo oh, okay then. Do any other enemies dodge and counter attack the bazillions?

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  4 года назад +1

      @@thisimagelooksslightlybett1020 As far as I know, it's only Jeanne (+Bayoclone), Rodin, and Balder. When taking damage that doesn't inflict a heavy stagger like a Wicked Weave does (and they're not locked into an attack animation only interrupted by a WW like meteor summoning), they have a chance when hit to dodge and retaliate. Joys attack and recover from stagger slow enough that it's generally not a problem against them unless they've all got their swords out.
      Another unusual thing is Ardors and Grace & Glory can still block the laser shots with their shield and claws respectively as they can with other bullets.

    • @BareKnuckleRoo
      @BareKnuckleRoo  4 года назад +2

      @@thisimagelooksslightlybett1020 Nah, I doubt it. It's just two lower level enemies occasionally will raise their arm and block shots. It's pretty minor, especially since you still deal tons of damage in between attacks while dodge offsetting. The Ardors and G&G can still be blasted with small charge or full charge hand laser shots which are truly unblockable and insanely strong (but Jeanne and other mobile enemies can dodge them). Bazillions are a significant damage boost over Scarborough Fair while still being effective in combo points for getting Pure Platinums (unless you use the charged punch lasers too much), and their disadvantages are only specific to some high tier enemies. They're still quite effective on Jeanne and Rodin for damage, as long as you're comfortable with triggering more sudden counterattacks. Makes using them a very exciting fight, if not as practical for a Pure Platinum as Scarborough Fair is.
      The real question is why does Odette have such a bad Charge Modifier in a game where only low level angels can be safely engaged 1v1 with kick flurries? Flurries are bad against pretty much everything dangerous in the game unless you're in Witch Time, and flurries are literally all Odette can do with its Charge Modifiers. :(
      I hope this inspires you and others to try and beat Lost Chapter if you haven't already! It's my favorite chapter in the game.

      Jeanne deals an extra 50% damage with Wicked Weaves, making it possible for her to quickly end some of the most difficult fights in the game. I'm not sure what you're referring to with respect to everyone being enraged (are you referring to how enemies deal more damage when they're angry? because I'm not aware of enemies getting more defense when enraged) but at any rate you can see that I'm not using Gaze of Despair during all the waves, particularly not during the bosses. It's there to keep magic up for the sake of Tetsuzanko, Tortures, and Pulley's Butterfly, but you can clearly see I take it off prior to the Jeanne and Bayonetta fights to prevent them from gaining significant stagger resistance. Those also happen to be the hardest fights and the make or break fights in a Pure Platinum where you can take damage very easily from their instant uppercut weaves. As you can see, Jeanne's extra damage ends up melting the triple Jeanne fight rapidly with Shuraba's PKP wide slash weave.

      They have range and power, and, unlike fire Durgas, which were my to-go option for high damage, Kilgore scores high combos. I used to play with Onyx roses on hands for the superior damage and staggering effect (useful on fast enemies such as joy and gracious/glorious) without sacrificing speed. Kilgore does it all plus it has area damage and great combo rewards, provided you can keep your distance from the enemies.

Watching the final fight against the Bayonetta clone was truly an eye opener for me and massively improved my game: ruclips.net/video/QpiC7Uiajl8/видео.html
      I'm glad you are enjoying Kilgore. A lot of the cool tech in Bayonetta is passed down word of mouth via the community it seems. No surprise and there's a nearly overwhelming amount of viable toys to play with in Bayonetta. I still love shotguns on the hands, mind you! Their ability to blast through the guard of Ardors, Joys, and Jeanne at close range is super fun to use, even if their combo points suck and they're basically inferior to Kilgore in crowd control and in 1v1. Lots of fun to blast away with. They're also my fave weapon for ground combat against Grace & Glory/Gracious and Glorious because of their exceptionally high stagger rate on them (not to mention much easier to hit them with shotgun blasts compared to rockets). Onyx Roses + SF or Bazillions is a fantastic combo whose only disadvantage is you'll get fairly bad combo points!
      The trick to using Kilgore + SF for Golem is to focus on the kicks when possible as they'll fire multiple rockets. This goes for PKP, PPKKK, PP•K, and PPPKKK. You can also use Tetsuzanko to quickly blast it (PKP with Shuraba when it's a ball will quickly crack it open for a free stuns!). Just watch the scary centipede attack with its lengthy active hitbox!
