How's the autofocus work for this lens when shooting video? I'm a little concerned with what he's saying about the focus needing extremely fine throwing.
+Esther C, the 135 F2 is going to be a much better choice for portraits. It has a slightly longer focal length and a wider maximum aperture, it's also known as one of the sharpest L lenses ever made. The 135 F2L is not a macro lens, it simply cannot take macro photos like the 100mm Macro. If you don't shoot macro, get the 135. If you're going for just macro, the 135 wouldn't be an option. The 100mm F2.8L Macro also has IS, which the 135 doesn't have.
Thank you for the explanation of this lens, just brought this lens to do long distance and macro shooting. I have just subscribed to you page. Thank you again!!!!!
Thank you, you really peace me out with the noice information 🙂, I was worried with the robotic noice I heard from the lense and was thinking all negatives(product damage or fake product etc) once again thank you and keep doing nice videos, all the best.
I have had two new and both developed serious issues. The first stopped auto-focusing with my camera after about 9 months of use and was told I needed my camera and the lens calibrating when it had been fine before...I doubted this as it was the same with all of my Canon cameras and I own five. I bought a new replacement in July this year 2016 which let in dust, moisture and again developed focus issues and now waiting for it to be repaired after only a few months of use and I do not use the lens outdoors when it raining. When my lenses worked they were superb but after the issues I have experienced I am now unwilling to ever buy another
I would like to shoot close ups of various rock specimens. Thus, obtaining sharp images of the minerals found within. The rock specimen will be resting on a table and the lens/camera set above with some sort of tripod attachment. You mentioned a ring holder mount for the lens. Where can I find such a device?
hi from a neighbour country, m curreently looking for a macro lens to go with my 700D. was initially looking @ the 100mm f2.8 (non L). would u say it is worth it to get the L version?
+Mr. Poopchillan Wouldn't be my choice of lens for landscapes, but then there's no rule that forbids one from shooting landscapes with a long focal length. If you're looking at taking landscapes with a long focal length, this lens should fair well enough, it's pretty sharp :)
Video on this lens is actually superb.

Thank you for this. Very helpful that you explained all of the elements in and ON the lens.

Fantastic review!
Awesome review as always, got me a little worried with the long focus distance issues, should find a way of nailing the sensible focus ring.

Digitalrev jr! Thanks for the good review
If your doing portraits with this lense, what setting is best when doing portraits is full a better option?

Great review. The first 100mm macro was good for portraits. Do you think this one would be good for portraits too?
Yes, albeit it's a F2.8, so you wont get as much bokeh as say the 135 F2. But nevertheless this lens is still great for portraits.
Thanks for your reply. Please keep up your reviews too.
Thanks...
good video but you didn't explain the function of focus switches right
Very Good Tiger.
