You answered my question, already, J Mason! He is a double for AlecBaldwin, in appearance and mannerisms. I honestly don’t recall him from the past, though I should, according to your reference.
Agreed. Also "Scotch", "Sugar", White", "Eastern", "Western", "Japanese". But I doubt the doofus contestants on this episode would have gotten any of those clues.
l think Allen Ludden was probably a nice man but oh my goodness these people can't concentrate because he talks too much....while these folks are giving clues, he should only be able to say 5 seconds and that's it...he would drive me nuts !!!
Open a copy of a Webster's Dictionary and take a look! Many words have different meanings. Such as the word "Quench" which A.L. explained after C.S. did not understand. Quench a fire with water, or ---- quench your thirst with water. English and American-English is not always an easy language.
Feel free to leave. Don't let the door hit you on the back. Only a low IQ sports fan with a low attention span would not like a game show about words. The English language has MANY homonyms, synonyms and antonyms. Buy a dictionary and a thesaurus and start reading! This was NOT a good episode. Dick Shawn was a doofus. Clueless without a cue card. Connie Steven was a cute gal but did not know many words. Try watching episodes with Celebs such as Donna Douglas, Paul Anka, Peter Lawford, Betty White, June Lockhart & Ross Martin! Even good clues from celebs with brains do not help if the other player (contestant) never passed High School English class.
Boy, did Shawn have a full head of hair!
I'm 70 and have more than him, in fact I now have less forehead .
I would use the term paragraph for sentence. I love how Connie got away with using her finger in a circular motion for siren
yeah, that's called 'cheating'
Allan Ludden let the female celebs cheat. I kept saying to my computer screen " "Paragraph", but nobody listens. 🙃
Exactly right, her gesture was wrong.

Dick Shawn was a maniac, so hilariously funny. Check out his early stand-up routines🤣funny stuff!
Connie looked like a happy person, while Dick seemed bored, but he was quick with the repartee.Excellent talents in different ways.
Ms Stevens is adorable.
For the word "pine" I would have said "tree," "winter," and "Christmas."
Agreed. Also "Scotch", "Sugar", White", "Eastern", "Western", "Japanese". But I doubt the doofus contestants on this episode would have gotten any of those clues.
Sol
I wonder if Connie had made the sound (of a raspberry) for the word Raspberry it would have been allowed?
That's a very good question, no matter what that would be hilarious
What is the sound of a raspberry??
I have a field of raspberries growing out back and they keep me awake at night with all the noise they make.😉
One word clues, not sounds. Game rules from the first episode, first season.
@@alanhumphrey4198 It’s basically making a ‘fart’ sound with one's mouth; most uncouth especially for a sweet young woman such as Connie.
Shawn was terrible giving the clues in the lightning rounds...
pine = loblolly, tree+Christmas, tree+needles, tree+evergreen
This is like watching somebody torture a cat.
If you had ever worked on a construction or renovation / remodeling crew, you would be in favor of torturing a cat. 😊
Player Jeannie was a hottie!!
These men were more clever than these women.
As usual
I'm moving on. These two are such poor players that's it's actually frustrating.
l think Allen Ludden was probably a nice man but oh my goodness these people can't concentrate because he talks too much....while these folks are giving clues, he should only be able to say 5 seconds and that's it...he would drive me nuts !!!
Why do they end up with a dozen different definitions?!

I like the era and the stars, but hate the whole concept of this gameshow. You guess a word based on synonyms or related words. It's just dumb.
If you pay attention and think, it can broaden your vocabulary...

Not dumb and all. It is quite fun and challenging
