    No failures, Rachel., only lessons. Failures signify negatives whereas lessons have a more positive connotation.❤

    Hi , Great Tutorial, say what is the Gold tool you used to put on the splatters of masking fluid? I do appreciate you showing the Long version of the glittery ornament. It lets others know that you go through some of the same struggles.

    The light on light looks like glare - very effective! The Rembrandt idea was completely new to me so I want to go back and evaluate my work in a different way...
    I also do pet portraits and am moving up to Humans. Skin tones are a challenge - so far I've learned never to use brown for shadows. So happy that RUclips served you up for me today!

      I'm glad too! I've been painting my son a lot and want to get better at painting people, that's where my journey is taking me these days!

    Hi! I am a real beginner. Painted a watercolor scene in a library class years ago. Now finally gathering supplies to start, and watching videos. I do have 20 years of acrylic painting in my past. I wanted to explain my painting experience, before my question. When you were making the pine needles, you mentioned a bamboo brush.. could you explain a little, also giving best size(s), and sources? I have never heard of it, are the bristles of the brush bamboo? I am asking because I know that I will be painting pine branches because I love winter. And maybe cats eventually...we have 3! I subscribed and I am looking forward to watching and learning more, and finally painting!
    Thank you for posting...I just found you.

      I'm so glad you found me Jan! The bamboo brushes are made with goat hair usually, which is cut off the animal to not harm the animal. I would get an 8 or 10 and maybe a 4 if I just wanted to choose 2, but these cheap brushes often come in sets.
      I have an extensive supply list posted on www.rachelsstudio.com/supplylist and I also have a nice little free start to finish tutorial you might enjoy at www.rachelsstudio.com/beginnerbunny

    Thank you for talking about how important mistakes and the feeling of failure is to developing talent.

      My pleasure - if you're not having enough failure you're probably not pushing yourself enough!

    I like the same one you do, but I love wet on wet. I can't do it myself, I make mud, but I love it when others do it, and I'm not giving up.

    • @rachelparkervarner
      @rachelparkervarner  9 месяцев назад

      It helps to use analogous colors when painting wet in wet when you are choosing what colors to sit next to each other

    I love the portrait painting of Parker in the camo shirt!!! I bet if you cropped, matted and framed that painting you would love it!! I respect your desire to try different painting styles for your portraits but don’t overlook a great painting just because it is a more realistic painting.

    Ok this is the first time I’ve understood how to make lost and found edges. Do you plan them in advance?

    • @rachelparkervarner
      @rachelparkervarner  9 месяцев назад +1

      Sometimes. The better you plan the better your painting will come out generally

    • @rachelparkervarner
      @rachelparkervarner  9 месяцев назад +2

      PS, I usually do this in the last hour of the painting process but a lot of people don't watch my tutorials end session and truly, almost always, that is where the magic happens.

    I like the same one you do but to my eye the ball lacks dimension. The other looks more like a 3 dimensional sphere. If you side load a wet flat brush with purple and swoop the right hand edge of the ball it should add a quick shadow but it may ruin your dreamy edges so take it my sugguestion with a grain of salt. Either way goregous painting! ❤

    Hey Rachel! Have you tried Drawing Gum masking fluid by Pebeo? I've never had any issues with it staining or tearing my paper.

    Love this video- so much info. It seems that the Rembrandt Principle is the same as making lost edges, no? Your haircut is so adorable. Makes you look like a kid!

      @rachelparkervarner  9 месяцев назад

      When you make dark on dark edges and light on light edges, that makes them lost, so it helps you to remember to do them!

    Is there a way to tell which worked best 😊

  • @M0odyBlue

    I think the shadows on the one most liked better are softer or blended better. They look more like “spots” on the one you prefer.

    What you just did really made the top of that ornament pop!
