    Hongdian is turning out some very sophisticated pens. I have a blue N 10 and a green one is on the way. This one is very nice as well. Great review!

    Apparently the company is pulling this pen from the market in China because the other two versions (not this one) have sharp edges at the ends that might be a little dangerous. They are probably going to work on that & possibly make other minor adjustments and re-release the pen.

    Thanks for the reviews Chris. I think HongDian did a great job changing things up with these last couple pens. As you said they changed everything but the clip. Including nib sizes. I love that for getting new experiences for not a lot of money. Really enjoy your ink choices too. This one was a stunner.

    Great video Chris! This N11 is beautiful... I can't wait to get mine. I ordered a few medium HongDian nibs at the same time, since I prefer larger nibs.

    Greetings from Australia.
    Great Video Chris.
    Let's look at the pens released by this company recently.
    Year of The Rabbit, D5 Qin Dynasty, Maple Leaf, N6, N8, etc, etc. Several of them piston fillers with an ink window for less than $80 Aud.
    Big name pen makers need to be aware because Hong dian are on the up.
    Thanks for the video.

    I love the diamond pattern of the N11. I also like the N10 with the the Piston Filler and the the #8 nib. I was thinking I would eyedropper the N11 but the bottom of the barrel is a separate piece but the styling is a showstopper on the N11.
    What to do?
    Get both after Christmas.
    As for the viewership, you just keep on going as long as you want. I don't know why it has waned. It is, for me, informative and one that is honest and spot on. I will continue to watch and keep diving into your archive.

      When I started on RUclips, I had no idea what would happen.. I do what I enjoy. I don't promote myself, it all about the pens. I don't ask for money. I remove in video ads because I don't like them. I have some amazing viewers, like you. Doing these reviews has increased my enjoyment of these pens after over 50 years of writing. That is it's own reward. Thanks for watching.

      @@chrisrap52 I started collecting pens in earnest when I worked in NYC in the late 1970s. I found FPH and I was hooked. Then I found Arthur Brown's and I started taking extended lunches, lol. I wonder if Marilyn is still around?
      It started with ballpoints, then adding rollerballs. It wasn't until recently that I got into fountain pens.

      I worked in midtown for 25+ years. First worked in 9W 57th. Was a regular at Brown's. My favorite was Pearl paint on Canal Street, had great discounts, bought a M800 green demo there. Now I live in NJ & shop online. Are you considering going to FPH Expo this Friday?

      @@chrisrap52 I was but I bought something from Goldspot and the funds are low.
      I worked downtown originally and found FPH. Then the company moved to 101 Park and found Arthur Brown's. I loved in Edison NJ and an R600 rollerball from Pearl. They did have great prices.

    I love Hongdian pens for their design and accessibility, but there is one thing I don't understand.
    These are pens that use "dark steel", like this one, but the nib is painted with black paint. And I really don't like this contrast and especially the fact that they hide it in the photos because of which you might think that the nib is also the color of dark steel, but it's not.
    And they also don't exactly understand the logic of indexes, since the N10 and N11 (N23 and N9 too) models have nothing in common with the N models (which started with 960).
    You can also add N6 and N2 here, but those at least have a clip from N.
    About 9:03
    One time I was writing with Jinhao 100 and I noticed how the pen was writing less and less, although I knew there was still enough ink in the pen. I removed the barrel and found that half of the remaining ink was left at the top of the converter. And this is due to the fact that there was no ball or spring in the converter. I have never had such problems with Hongdian pens.
    So the ball matters.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Год назад +3

      The nibs are PVD coated. A very durable coating. "PVD coating is known for its durability and corrosion resistance."
      I've had many pens with ball & springs in converter. They still had ink trapped away from nib. I just move piston to remove the air & prime feed. When you change inks, cleaning out converters with these things is more difficult. That for me is a reason to remove them.
      I also don't understand HongDian's model numbers. BUT think of PenBBS model numbers.

    Good review, Chris, thanks. I was wondering about that metal grip, and appreciate your discussing it near the end of the video. There are rings around the grip, which might reduce the tendency to slide, and your addressing the finish is helpful. Benu Briolette also has rhombus shapes on the barrel, though every one is individually made and there's no clip.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Год назад +1

      Fo me the surface of the section is OK, not slippery. The rings add a little. I have avoided Benu pens, have to draw the line somewhere.

    I have the N11 - the lozenge in blue, the twill in green. They're both very pretty, and decent writers for jotting quick notes. Personally, i prefer more than one turn of the cap because i worry they'll unscrew in my bag.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Год назад +2

      If a cap unscrews easily, the number of turns is not a factor. I always keep my pens in sleeves if in my bag.

    what delightful faceting. I wonder if that's really titanium on the nib & could be anodized at home... 😁
    I wish the N10 had facets like this, but I like its ink window & piston-filler.

    • @chrisrap52
      @chrisrap52  Год назад +2

      It is a Physical vapor deposition (PVD) coating on a stainless steel nib. The coating can be made of titanium. The N10 has its own visual appeal. With the N11 design, ink windows would be very difficult.
