Yeah I do that for social and people love it. I enjoy packaging stuff it’s so interesting and motivating.
Am I the only person that doesn't like those 🤔 frequently I put her videos on while driving and it's hooked up to my car speakers so I listen like it's a podcast (obviously I don't watch the video while driving) so I like when she's discussing things. I skip the packing ASMR videos because I don't want to watch someone else working. I don't know, I think I'm in the minority tho 😂
@@jynstardust I think I like the packing videos because they keep me company while I’m working on my own business-related stuff. Same with watching “draw with me” videos while I draw. I guess it depends on my current activity and mood.

I'm not gonna lie, I'm really happy seeing these little mixups in your videos because it makes me feel like less of a dumb-dumb as a small business owner who struggles with ordering the right size things too! Haha.
Catherine, Pantone has indeed made their catalogue subscription only, so the options are to pay for it (not covered in your Adobe CC sub) or find an alternative. It's really horrible, because we are all so tied in to Pantone!!! The frosted sleeve looks more high-end than the compostable plastic-y one.

Yup I kept getting the messages at work… it’s really messed up. You already have to pay hundreds for the stupid booklets.

Do the cellos if there is anything else in the package. I've had pin backing cards get bent and smacked into in shipping over seas. It we dent the edges. With a cello all ur pages stay together and it helps prevent denting.
I've had loads of tech issues over the last week or two - it's comforting to know I'm not the only one 🧡
I got a calendar packed by Dean and it was in the frosted compostable sleeve. I thought it looked great. TBH I was just very excited about my new calendar!
My calendar has made it through customs but has been sitting in NY for a couple of days. I’m so excited to get it! Shouldn’t take too awfully long to make it to Georgia from New York if they’ll just send it! 😂 It’s getting the place of honor in my studio!
The frosted bags are beautiful and I always love getting stuff in them. I’m sure it will protect my calendar just fine and I love the way those feel!
Hey lovely, my calendar arrived yesterday and it’s been pouring rain lately where I am but it was in perfect condition!! It was in pink tissue paper. Also I’d love a pin with astronaut bumblebutt 😊😊
Don't stress about the packaging! I was speaking to a friend who was telling me about how much more resources go into making compostable cello bags, they're actually worse for the environment in terms of manufacturing than the original 'non-recyclable' ones. He explained it as the compostable ones are worse at the start of their life, the non compostable at the end. So I'm just going without now! I think I've only ever had 1 item get wet in my whole Etsy shop life (out of around ~30k orders!) so don't overthink it.
Also I just wanted to say, my partner and I love Dean content, I videoed the 'so gentle' part it made me chuckle and I know he will love it too. We stan for Dean! I love how supportive you both are of each other, it's so cute, love your videos!

13:24 Great video! The Affinity Suite (Photo 2, Designer 2 and Publisher 2) still has the full Pantone library without needing an additional subscription. I believe there is a still a promotion for the universal license. The universal license covers all versions of the app across three platforms - Mac, Windows, iOS. I paid $99 for it, I believe, and it’s a one time fee.
I kinda agree with everyone else-I get wanting to protect your calendar, but a nice little Kraft brown bag or just using tissue paper to ship in a thicker mailer or poly bag.
Some Kraft bags are lined too to protect from rain. That way it’s reusable and better for the environment. I’m sorry you’ve had so much stress. But sometimes you have to allow what you don’t think is perfect go. It’s something I’ve worked on and it’s liberating. I understand things wanting to look nice, but it’s not worth the stress or headache when people will throw your packaging out. Something you could do too to save on waste is get a custom stamp made of the flower with your logo on it because I don’t know if the sticker would ruin the integrity of it being biodegradable. They have ecofriendly inks too.
Also I have an iPhone and iPad but have you considered building your own pc? That way if you need to upgrade the ram or cpu you don’t need to drop a ton on a new machine. I just had to get additional ram for this very reason 4K videos and editing requires a lot of power!!
I've seen you talk about doing business live events and talks, but what about one for youtube? I've just started an etsy business and it's so overwhelming! I absolutley love your shop and your channel and your way of thinking. I feel we are a lot alike in the way we think and would love to hear your thoughts on starting an etsy shop in 2023 possibly?
Wanted to say how much I enjoy your videos, both on Katnipp and Catherine Kay. You are such a sweet and lovely person. I really like your honesty and showing us everything, from the mistakes to the solutions, the designing and everything else in between. The music you choose for your videos is perfect as well. Happy and blends in so well. I will often watch your videos during my lunch break, or when I'm journaling, or when I just need to be a couch potato and play on my phone but need some background noise on the TV. I'll rewatch videos often. I've ordered some stickers once and would love to again. My daughter especially wants the mushroom sweater but the conversion to canadian funds and shipping will require some no spending to set the funds aside. Really looking forward to watching what happens in 2023!
I think placing them in the tissue paper and inside the hard Envelopes is protection enough . Your calendar looks so cute I love your work and drawing you inspire me I am going to be starting my own collection of a brand character soon.

You can buy RAM by itself on ebay or somewhere and then insert it into your current laptop. But you need to make sure it's the correct model RAM before you buy it :)

Your hair color really looks nice on you! Don’t overthink the packaging that people just throw away. Just make a sticker that says “saving the environment…minimal packaging”
Or what I do is include a thank you note that says to kindly reuse or recycle the minimal packaging.
Maybe adding a cardboard at the back to add support so they dont bend in transit? When i do custom painting in watercolor I like to add a cardboard to protect them.
I just saw that the envelope has some sort of cardboard at the back! That is so much easier than i was doing! I learned something new today
I heard something about Pantone colours now being locked unless paid for….I don’t know the details but I know that Stewart Semple (the blackest black, and pinkest pink creator) came up with a new colour set which he’s offering free for artists to combat this. I guess I’m just suggesting that you look at his website as it might provide some options/answers.

My calendar arrived without a cello bag and is perfectly fine. I am thrilled with it 👍👍 great job. I was also delighted that I got a packaged by dean sticker for the very first time. Lol little things 😂
Got my calendar today! The packaging was fine with just the tissue paper and looked beautifully presented. I wouldn't worry too much about water damage as the envelopes actually fit through standard letter boxes anyway so they are less likely to be left at a door.
the adboe vs. pantone will still require a 15 fee (for you for me its 30 aud) they are not going to be more accurate from the news it was that adobe was not giving them a cut of there costs ( adobe). they will be changed so you can't use it as reference, some will be black others will be changed colours. theres someone doing freetones which are the correct pantones with the right codes.
Loving your newer studio vlogs!!! Would you be able to go over how you put together the proofs for your pins? I love how professional they look! I'm sure your manufacturer appreciates the details. ❤️

Have you tried looking for glassine bags? The glassine bags are recyclable almost everywhere and the compostable bags aren’t recyclable in all areas, but I think the calendar will be fine. One RUclipsr I watch, she decided to get rid of plastic packaging and she made a good point….she rarely had a customer say to her that the package was ruined because of water damage and if the package was ruined because of water, the replacement costs pennies compared to the money she was spending on plastic packaging. I’m not trying to cause any issues with you using plastic, I’m just passing on what others have tried ♥️
Those bags you say are also not recyclable in alot of areas, my area in South Yorkshire we get a list of stuff we can recycle and that is not one of them so it would have to go into the main rubbish bin
Glassine bags aren’t available in that size, they’re usually much smaller. I think she could just use a Kraft paper bag and put it into a box or mailer.
@marklola12 It might not be on the list since it's just paper/made with wood pulp. It's naturally biodegradable. And is clear enough to see the product and is resistant to moisture.
@@mrs.quills7061 I looked to see if glassine is that size and yes you can find these bags in larger sizes. The larger sizes are made for photography but I did find some larger sizes with a Google search. Don’t know if they are harder to find in the UK but they are available, in case you were wondering 😊

When I’ve tried to find them in the past I can usually only find the snack size ones or ones that fit cards! Which is fine for my stickers and other small things, but I don’t have anything besides recycled cello bags for my art prints! I was looking into brown Kraft bags, but I’m glad there are bigger sizes. I appreciate it.

I think the calendars would be fine in tissue if they had a cardboard insert to stop them from bending. I’ve had small business calendars with no cover other than tissue but they survived because of the cardboard.

I understand all of your worries completely, not just as an overthinker but as a shop owner who considers branding to be pretty important 😅 It might also be because we both have a graphic design background and I know how important branding is in that field.
I know a lot of the other comments say the packaging will just be thrown away in the end and many people don't care, I definitely agree! But I also just wanted to emphasize and comment as well that most of my reviews talk about how much they loved the packaging, how it looked so pretty, or felt like a heartfelt gift from a friend! I'm 90% sure I wouldn't have had so many reviews if my packaging was lackluster. My products aren't bad, the packaging just adds that extra wow!
Of course minimizing is still important to do what we can, but most plastic waste comes from large corporations vs small businesses just trying to survive. I found this really obvious when I worked in retail and just the amount of plastic when unboxing new products from shipments was astounding! I filled at least a couple of large dumpsters full of trash every day for a small dollar store. Obviously they have to protect their goods during long travels but I swear a lot of it looked excessive. It's not an excuse not to make an effort, but to be a little easier on yourself too. Every little bit is commendable!

If you haven't seen the notice going around about Photoshop privacy settings. They have allowed AI access to ypur saves files. You can turn it off in the privacy settings

Tips: You can bend the calendar a little bit (like a smile mouth) to smoothly slide in to the too tight plastic/bag and straight them up after they tuck in. But if they still bend in the bag, that means your bag is too small. I think you should use whatever available in your studio (the frosted one) for shipping, rather than buy a new packaging which can be too small or too big, the priority is to protect the product in shipment, unless you need the clear one to display for convention.
Thank you for caring how it gets to the customer. I recently ordered a calendar on amazon (not yours, sorry) and it came all bent and unusable. Was super dissapointed so returning it. May need to order yours now.
Frosted bag is perfectly fine - people are going to open it immediately. It's just like opening the tissue paper :)

If you shoot and edit in 4K you should turn your clips into proxies before editing. It'll make it so much easier for you.
Order some more ram it is probably pretty easy to add, I did it on my desktop. Got the ram on Amazon ;)

I was just watching your video and found something I just NEED to have....the tissue wrapping paper on a roll and the dispenser. I think I may have found the dispense, but where do I find tissue paper in a roll (not a sheet). Having a difficult time finding. OH, and thanks for the video!!!

Do you edit using proxy files? I literally have no idea what that means but that’s what all the final cut hacks say to do to speed up editing 😅

All cellophane, being a bioplastic, is compostable, as it is made out of plant cellulose. Good on you for trying to find the most economical and ecological solution though!!!
I totaly feel you on the video editing. I spent way too many years editing with 8 GB of Ram on a 13 in monitor. It was a nightmare. If you ever decide to trade in for something more, maybe try a refurbished model? You'll save some money AND have the power you need to get through that 4K.
Oh! if you're using Premiere Pro you can also drop down you Playback resolution, that might help in the short term!
It’s why I built my pc I needed to add more ram to it and I’m not locked in. With how demanding software is now I wanted to be future proof!
I would love to know your process on bringing your designs into illustrator or photoshop and doing the coloring... bc i have no clue about rgb and cmyk coloring formats and never thought to check my color codes with pantone.... (and if im not making sense excuse me bc seriously i have no idea on this subject lol)
Pantone basically paywalled colors and it’s for certain inks in commercial printing it makes it universally consistent, but they made it so you can’t access the colors now without paying… rgb is how you see content online and cmyk is what your printer uses to make color. It’s confusing at first, but think of it how different things format color.
Pantone and Adobe have changed how their partnership works, so Pantone colors, with the exception of the ones that are still in Adobe, are subscription only. Unfortunately, if you want to use the Pantone Solid Coated and Uncoated colors, you would need to subscribe, or base it off of a Pantone Solid Coated and Uncoated swatch book. I was able to find Freetone by Culture Hustle, where the colors are basically the same as Pantone.

Exactly, to be honest she could just ship them in a big Kraft bag or tissue wrap inside a mailer to protect them. I get a need to want to have a good brand, but most people don’t want waste. Most people won’t or can’t recycle certain plastics either!

@@tinkerandteal yeah, it’s something I’ve learned recently. So only certain plastics can be recycled, others you have to bring to special stores or facilities and most people won’t do that. I felt terrible just learning that as stuff I put in recycling actually couldn’t be… and I live in the states so I’m sure it’s different for other countries. At least with Kraft packaging it’s usually made of paper or cardboard and can be recycled easily.

omg I have the same issue I got a new laptop in 2021 and my other half (a techie) said will you be editing video. Well I hadn't even thought I was going to start a youtube channel so I said no no really. (*face Palm*) I get, NOT RESPONDING so much from my editor and you don't have enough memory!. I literally have to restart my laptop and open nothing else but the editing software to get anything done. It's so frustrating
Pantone now makes you pay for the subscription to use their colors. Adobe and Pantone dropped their partnership. we are also having this as an issue at my design agency as well...ugghh
I don't think you need both the cellophane bags and the tissue paper. But that's my 2 cent.

I personally don't like extra packaging because I find it wasteful and just more trash in the world. 🌎 Compostable in America doesn't mean recyclable nor does it mean you can just throw it into your compost. 4:16

Another vote for Polybags...I ordered some C4 compostable cello sleeves from another company for some A4 planners I'd designed and they were just a couple mm too small! After some panicked Googling I found Polybags, ordered a free sample* and it fit perfectly with a bit of room to spare. Crisis averted! *they also included a couple packets of Haribo with the sample to sweeten the deal 😂 I think I ordered a C4+ size although I can't seem to find that size in display bags on their website anymore, just in mailers.

Well video editing demands a lot of ram and a strong cpu it’s why I built my pc. I had to upgrade my ram recently bc 4K videos kept crashing.
I feel like you add too much stress to your day by worrying so much about the packaging. I get wanting to stick with a brand style but when you have so much to do it just makes sense to put less emphasis on items that are going to be thrown away within minutes of opening.
I agree. I get it too, but most people don’t care and when I get stuff that’s super dolled up it feels wasteful because I either can’t reuse it or recycle it. I think she could just wraps the calendars in tissue wrap or use those thin brown bags too as glassine bags aren’t made that big. For my Etsy shop I use Kraft mailers and glassine bags and for eBay I just use whatever I find from my job or Amazon or other online orders lol. I save all bubble wrap and air punches to reuse them. That’s actually way more eco friendly than buying new things.
The only thing one needs to worry about is making sure it’s protected during shipment.
Might be time to outsource video editing. Not a good use of your time. Even if it’s just some of them.
That’s a good idea or at least social media I can’t imagine how stressed she must be. I think if she can’t outsource she should at least upgrade the computer. That’s the one issue with apple and why I built my pc. I had to upgrade my ram and didn’t need a whole new machine for it.
