From the moment Batman starts the engine of the Batmobile to when he emerges from the flames of the wreckage, it's clear that this scene perfectly symbolizes the entirety of Batman as a superhero. He is almost inhuman in his relentlessness. Penguin quickly realizes this after thinking he's outsmarted the Dark Knight. What truly sells this sequence is how every element of the filmmaking process comes together: the acting, the score, the cinematography, and the sound design. They all work together to express Batman's immense power and unexplainable force.

this is not a chase. This is an hunt. Easily the best scene of the movie.
Good scene, not the best. The best scene is when batman rescues the citizens in the end
This was my favorite scene
Very well said!!
Absolutely
@@Etphcm-nt4nk stop the cap
I'm an aircraft mechanic and I restore classic cars as a hobby. That turbine spooling up and the V8 revving combo is the coolest sound ever.
N the theater the sound system was rumbling
Gave me goosebumps that sound, easily my favourite pet of the movie, just love the sound
The sound isn't actually a turbine though. It's a super distorted stretched out bottle rocket sound leading into V8 engines..
@@SohiHien thanks Einstein
The sound is melodious
A detail that I love about this scene: EVERYONE reacts when the Batmobile starts up.
The Penguin isn't the only one afraid here. They are all getting a little reminder that Batman isn't one of them, he's something else entirely.
Batman is just built different
I love how Cat Woman and Gordon are no longer scared of the gunfight and are purely interested in what the hell that noise is.
No shit
Yea All eyes on him. He’s the Caped crusader of course
that motor had them shook, like hearing a beast you know can eat you
When I watched this in the cinema, I was lucky enough to watch it in IMAX. I will NEVER forget that turbine and engine sound, the whole room shook and the revs. That is why we need to preserve cinemas. An experience that will never be replicated
I can relate to that. I like to rewatch this scene at home with headphones just trying to replicate how amazing it was in the theater. It never comes close
YES! Same here.
The club scenes were also amazing in IMAX. It was so loud and there was so much echo that I really felt like I was in the Iceberg Lounge
^this too
I saw it in a regular cinema; and even that shook
If the Batmobile is already this scary, imagine how terrifying the Batwing will be.
It better show up in the second movie..
@@THE_MAQ355 don’t think it will till the 3rd one
If killer croc shows up in the 2nd movie it will be the batboat, but if it’s gonna be a problem that’s big that’s when the batwing is gonna come in to the movies
holy shit I totally forgot about the batwing ahah
my heart stopped imagining that
This was one of the best experiences I had in the cinema. The entire theater room was vibrating because of the batmobile no matter how many times I watch this movie, I'm never gonna get that same feeling back of being afraid of a car.
1917's bunker collapse competes, check it out.. too later for theaters now but find the best sound system you can
I bought a soundbar from LG, this scene is amazing
The entirety of top gun also competes, the power of cinema audio, these movies will always be best in the cinema.
you're not the only one. i was like "ive never gotten an evil feeling from a car before" m
It's like a predator roar intent on making you freeze out of fear. Absolute masterpiece of a scene.
1:31 I cannot explain how badass this shot is. The thunderous Batman theme with the Batmobile speeding through the rain. So amazing.
There’s no words on how to describe that beauty. I wish they would add this movie but in theaters so I can experience it again.
The best batmobile nitro
Felt like I was watching the old cartoons
Frrrr it was such a beauty to see and hear
They should re release this film so i can watch the movie one more time again to experience that scene
0:34 The startup engine of the bat mobile sounds so monstrous and intimidating it really strikes fear to these criminals and that makes it 100 percent badass
Duh.
SuperCharger
@@jacoblarahdez9907triple super charged if I saw that engine properly in the earlier shots of the movie
So cool. It sounds like an old-skool turbine, like something you'd find on a cold war jet. It's not fancy and high tech its robust and brutal.
It's the most intimidating bottle rocket in the industry. That's not a joke btw. They used a bottle rocket for the sound.
That startup and stare down with Penguin gives me chills everytime.
Gave me intense chills in the theater, made me lean forward with a big smile on my face
@@UnboxingYeti exactly what I did too . What an amazing scene!
They're thinking: IS THAT A CAR OR A FUCKIN JET THAT I'M HEARING??

The fact that how the bat mobile was revving up in the dark was menacing and horrifying. Love this scene!
N the theater smfh
It was like a caged animal and itching to pounce!
this scene and the beginning shows why people are terrified of him in the first place
The batmobile was literally screaming lol.
Penguin: Hey, Vengeance! What is that? A B-2 Stealth Bomber?
The Batman: It is.
Penguin: How the hell did you get a military aircraft like that, huh?
The Batman: I bought it.
I love how monstrous the Batmobile sounds here - it sounds like a monster that has just been woken from a slumber and is growling away in the dark. The fact that this Batmobile is more intimidating as a regular car that the Nolan/Snyder/Arkham versions, which were literal tanks, speaks volumes. This film does a great job of showing why criminals are terrified of Batman, something which I felt the Nolan trilogy (as great as it was) lacked.
First time I heard this Batmobile I called that sound the screech of the banshee. It is every bit of pain and hatred that Bruce feels pulled out of his soul and made vocal for everyone to hear.
The Tumbler, Is an icon of itself. Definitely my favorite for many reasons. When it comes to intimidation factor, you are absolutely correct, I have never seen a more satisfying and yet horrifying batmobile.
@@richardwarnercool1 No, no. Not a banshee, or a harpy, or anything like that. This thing roars and screams like a bat out of hell.
is this ur first time hearing a hellcat 😂
I love the little moments in Colin Farrell’s performance like 2:02 and when he nervously laughs calling Batman crazy. It’s like the penguin can’t help but respect Batman’s relentlessness but he’s also scared shitless. I don’t think I’ve seen many interpretations where the villains are so thoroughly freaked out or blindsided by Batman.
you could tell he was freaking terrified lol especially when the batmobile jumps out of the fire, his reaction is just so funny to see
You just blew my mind, did not know that was Colin. Many people don't like this movie. I think it was good. When the car started, they turned the volume up to 11, and the whine from the turbine just jumping around the surround gave me mad chills. Best batmobile introduction ever. I just wish they did not go for a PG rating. They where going for a darker Batman, then give us the rating it deserves, show us the angry, scary and violent Bat!...
I love how this batmobile doesn’t have to look overly crazy like almost every batmobile ever has. It’s like someone took the original 1960’s batmobile, and made it SUPER intimidating.
I never looked at it that way. A.azung what a epic modification and a different tone will do!
This batmobile is like a heavily modified muscle car
To be fair this is year two Batman
@dionjaywoollaston1349 right he's still coming into his own.
@@kikisinozic7475Exactly like how an Early Batman should be. Improvising equipment, gear, and vehicles out of real stuff and being limited on resources. He might be rich, but his spendings would be recorded somewhere. If a wanted vigilante was pulling out billions of dollars worth of assets, it'd definitely narrow down the suspect list, and Bruce would be identified almost immediately.
I have one minor complaint about this film unrelated to the chase. It was raining the entire movie and they didn't bother giving Penguin the signature umbrella. Give the man an umbrella.
1. It always rains in Gotham 24/7 2. Penguin isn't "The Penguin" yet as he doesn't have his own mob.

This startup scene is PURE Bat mobile POWER INTIMIDATION. "Fear is a tool." Perhaps one of the best car hunt scenes in cinematic history. Thanks for the 4K Clip!
I like how you used "car hunt" instead of "car chase" because thats what it exactly is, Batman is not just on a chase, he's on the hunt
Batsie pressed the "make them shit their pants button" on the car dash.
It's even funnier that batman let's the car die
You have to show the fear in the enemy before you show Batman, Nolan did it better in The Dark Knight tunnel scene when Batman detonates the EMP blacking out the tunnel, you can only hear the sonic boom of the bat bike as he zips by the cop car. The old cop tells the young cop "boy you are in for a show"
@@mayorebfarnum8114 Both are great scenes of intimidation and fear. 😊
I was a fighter jet mechanic for six years. I can attest that the start up sounds for jet engines sound EXACTLY like the gorgeous machine in this video. When I saw this in theatres I had complete full body chills. 15\10 for authenticity.

Matt Reeves revealed he had this sound in his sound library and it was a 1 second sound clip of a little bottle rocket which then was slightly distorted and stretched.
Something I haven’t seen in the comments as much is how impressive the use of darkness is throughout the entire film. While some movies/shows struggle with portraying darkness effectively, this one excelled in utilizing it to create a compelling atmosphere (Literal darkness btw). Huge props to the crew of The Batman.
I love how the bat mobile is portrayed in this movie. It’s not just a mode of transportation. It’s purely intimidation. Where the bat mobile is usually some sort of tank, this one is sleek and stealthy. So fitting for this Batman
The only time the batmobile was portrayed as a tank was Nolan's Dark Knight trilogy, I'm pretty sure.
@@ARG0Tit was also a tank in the arkham games and in the snyderverse

That was exactly my thought. “Something ascended from hell and made its way into the engine.”
Collin Ferrell never gets enough credit for his acting, in my opinion. He played a Penguin that was original up to this point. Definitely an actor that deserves the fame.

@@Doritoz_Locoz_Tacoz omg, same here, lol. This fact blew my mind.

I give them props. I originally didn’t like the idea of a tall Penguin but they made it work.
I still think its funny that Hollywood apparently couldnt find a fat american to portray the penguin. When the U.S. needs to import fat people you know the end is near
0:42 this scene is something I will never forget for the rest of my life..
Arguably one of the, if not the best Batmobile in the Batman franchise. There's a sense of realism, not too out-of-this-world vehicle. I also like Nolan's Tumbler. Realistic but made by Wayne's company, not by himself. But here comes Reeve's garage-built monster. A believable car that Bruce Wayne can produce in a comical world.
Yeah this Batmobile was different. It was like a hot-rod lashed together from nightmares.
batman 89' batmobile is still my favourite, it looks so aggressive

The BvS intro was pretty darn good though. Plus, the subsequent chase in that one felt much better.

This is one of the best scenes in cinematic history. The excitement I felt in the cinema was extraordinary
IT'S NOT JUST A SOUND, IT'S FEAR!
It's RAGE
This scene alone was more thrilling than the last 5 MCU movies.

Seriously, considering the MCU turns almost everything into a joke and lighthearted, it’s refreshing to see a superhero movie that shamelessly takes itself seriously

I'm a fckn huge fan of marvel but they haven't been it lately
Nah , the DC is just like at 1:00 ; good premises but bad execution...
Honestly , all the revving up like crazy just to stop without any reason maked me laugh lile crazy ; what a shit 😂
I love the old-school cyberpunk touch that they put on the Batmobile. It looks like a cool vehicle straight out of Akira. The small blue flames that emerge at the front give it a more intense eighties air.

0:33 this scene is pure ecstasy. Did not expect this model to be one of my favorite Batmobiles. Up there with the Tumbler.
This is better than the tumbler, considering Bruce made this car
abradolf lincler - true I’ve honestly never been a fan of Lucius Fox in the movies or comics.. having someone make something for Bruce instead him doing it himself - always didn’t sit right for me.
@@firstlast9846 it’s more realistic to have his stuff made by someone else who has put in the years of research to do so, Bruce being a master at everything is pretty far fetched, what at base he should be is a great detective and expert martial artist and have above average engineering skills but even with all these he would still need help as to not waste his time let’s say designing his grappling hook gun.
@@Justin-tt9cz I agree. Having Batman be a master at everything could make him feel like a Gary Stu. I think him having other people around him that help him behind the scenes is much more interesting.
As cool as I think this Batmobile is and how it looks like a beefed up 70s muscle car, it’s clear that it’s kind of a hodgepodge and primitive. I hope they at least keep this Batmobile as a base and he keeps upgrading it over the course of the trilogy.

@@cobdude175 probably he doesnt know how cars work in real life and this car is too ''basic??????'' and not fantastic enough for him
I think that comes to personal preference. To me The Batman is my favorite Batman film ever, followed by The Dark Knight. Both are truly amazing films and we can all agree that whichever we prefer the most is a great choice 👍🏻
Love how throughout this scene, the camera barely ever focuses of Batman, instead only showing the car. Makes it feel like the car itself is alive and is a horror villain on its own. And even when we do see Batman the camera is either super close up to his eyes, out of focus, or blurred by glass, fantastic way to make him feel even scarier and like a horror villain
I love that he doesn't stop him immediately he is just telling him to run saying fear me
He is basically playing with his food.
It plays well into the mindset of Batman’s character by this part of the film. He’s not worried about protecting civilians, or saving people ( ie: ask the people that got injured or potentially died in the highway pileup). His only focus is terrifying and beating down criminals. So to goad the Penguin into running for the thrill of the hunt by accelerating and breaking works as storytelling as his character evolves.
In the film theater, I was grinning like a madman during this entire scene, the startup sounds were extremely powerful coming trough the film theater sound system and the entire chase is a masterpiece. To the entire cast and crew and production company, YOU ARE LEGENDS!
I saw this in a HUGE imax theater. When that engine revved… the theater SHOOK. I had goosebumps the entire chase. It was loud and proud. I was not sold on the batmobile at first but the closer and closer the movie came to release, I warmed up to it. This whole scene solidified how BADASS it was.

So many people complained about that but couldn't even put Into perspective that he just literally finished building it. It's probably not even tuned but so called car guys complain otherwise.

That is why penguin quickly ran away after that
@@dollar_mittone4266 I laughed too. 😂 I was like “really?”
I'm glad others noticed that. The criminals instinctively all scrambled around thinking they had a chance in that moment.
I’m surprised a lot of people aren’t talking about how Batman is challenging Penguin in this scene. As he revs up the engine you can see Penguin getting increasingly angry at the fact that Batman is flexing on him.
It’s like getting a higher grade than the smartest kid in class that can’t handle being number 2(?)
Also from a narrative standpoint the the roar of the Batmobile is louder ever time the camera focuses on penguin displaying his rage at the fact he’s being outdone.
People may not be talking about it because the Penguin is getting scared, not angry. That's why he runs.
I think the Penguin was more scared than angry.
@@crabbieappleton I guess you can see it either way. I don’t see the penguin abandoning THE MONEY cause he scared but rather because he wants to settle a score with our man Vengeance over here. But again, that’s just my interpretation.
I see more anger in his face then fear in the beginning but it’s subjective
@@TheShifter1001 No, dude it's pretty clear he's afraid. He's frantically driving into on going traffic, shoots at the batmobile like a madman and speeds up each time he sees Batman coming closer. I don't blame him for being afraid either. Batman atp has proven that he's legitimately insane and is not a joke.
@@crabbieappleton scared is a strong word. I would say intimidated, as well as frustrated. Batman is a one man army, and although Penguin has his own army of goons, it seems like Batman always has a new trick up his sleeve. I think that pause he took while seeing the car rev up was him coming to terms that this is something new that he has never dealt with before. He was trying to wrap his mind around the fact that this bozo in a bat costume is becoming an actual problem.
It’s the look on everyone’s face when they are like, “wtf is that” 🤣
And that was our reaction in the theater too!!
Loved it!!
Lmao
What I really love about this scene is that when they all turned their attention to the sound. They’ve never heard any vehicle made such a sound in their lifetime; so you could imagine what was going through their minds. That vehicle had the engine sound capacity of a thousand roaring lions in perfect unison. Especially the screech it made before the engine started roaring; almost like the sound of many banshees.
This little moment at 02:35 is epic! Penguin starts shooting at the window and the more he shoots and as the window damages he eventually sees Batman calmly sitting there staring at him which makes penguin react, almost scared. I love that we see it from his POV as well.
Not only is is a amazingly well done scene from the cast and crew but also such a great moment to highlight how intimidating Batman really looks for both the characters and us viewers.
The banshee-like scream of the Batmobile's engine starting up gave me goosebumps while I was in the theater.
I watch this scene several times a week. I just canmot get enough of it

The Penguin screaming "Come on!", half-terrified, half-ecstatic adds so much to this character IMO. It's like he kinda enjoys this while at the same time being scared shitless.

It’s like a dopamine boost in the midst of an adrenaline fueled panic. Like laughing and then suddenly remembering there is nothing to laugh at and your ass is grass
My favourite scene in the movie, the car being in the dark with just the blue light from the turbine and exhaust, the high pitch screeching of the turbine, the intimidation factor of the whole thing

I watched this movie in a AMC Dolby Cinema. With 64 speakers, the theater literally shook and rumbled when this scene hit. It was amazing watching this film in that format.
I watched it in Dolby Cinema, too. Beautiful experience. I watched it again in INAX.
They did this scene, among so many others in this film, so amazingly perfect. There’s such a clear understanding, especially of those beginning days, of Batman and this character and what he is in represents. This Batmobile starting up scene is like watching a demon coming out of the ground. A giant demonic wolf that’s eyes are fixated on you as they intensify , with appropriate sound too, and the coming lunge . Hats off to Colin as well to perfectly react to this kind of situation with the correct amount of superstitious projection onto this scene and onto this car. Through Collins eyes you see the correct response of a criminal that is projecting onto the vehicle or a superstitious supernatural fear. It’s just so perfect. Fucking love it

And to think the sound of the jet engine came from a bottle rocket that was manipulated 🤯 I can’t stop coming back to this scene. So glad I saw this in Dolby Atmos!
Penguin definitely sh*t his pants when he saw the batmobile
0:33 hands up for all those who were able to get to see and FEEL that f****cking batmobile roar in an IMAX screen!!! The fury, the ectasy, and the emotion of hearing this roar, are the perfect encapsulation of the hunger for justice that Batman has.
In my place there's no imax unfortunately so 🥲
the most badass batmobile imo
Imagine what kind of upgrades would Lucius Fox bring to this hell hound! The sequels gon be lit
Yea I really hope Lucius will be in the sequel, and will make some upgrades to Bruce’s tech.
aw man im so hyped
This Batmobile intro will go down as one for the history books. It's easily as iconic as the Back to the Future DeLorean and Mad Max's Interceptor.
I love the sound of this thing. It sounds nothing like a car. It sounds like a demon.
One of the greatest moments in film history
I think, one of the reasons why this scene works so well (except foe the great sound and visualization) is that it was a kinda quiet movie until the point. A lot of dialogue, a lot of investigstion, of course the club scene and the scene with Something in the Way, but other than thart, comparatively quiet. Then the batmobile powering up...
Oh,... this makes a lot of sense! I watched this movie at home, laying on my sofa. As soon as that turbine sound got louder and louder,... I ended up watching the chase scene standing up. I was beyond fired up !!!

I agree, it was a completely silent movie, except all of those times when it wasn't silent, and then it wasn't silent.
That engine sound of the batmobile is sick.
