I find the booing and insulting by the audience severely distasteful. All bands need to be respected. They represent something greater than the music and the dancing they’re performing. If you don’t root for a band then be silent when they’re name is called but still applause. HBCU’s are few in number with enrollment declining annually by worrisome margins. Uplift our young and gifted peeps!

I like how Southern cut off Talledega playing "Stay Woke" with "Still Fly" by Big Timers and Talledega played "Bone" but Southern was still louder than Talledega,shit had the crowd bucking...

Band Queen15 I was there. you looking at the JSU section. SU, ASU, JSU and then that other HS band. SU shut the place down. JSU was close behind ASU. ASU showed out. This recording doesn't do it.
No footage tells its all. Reveals more of a accurate sound. No echo meaning you hearing the real notes. Jsu took that.

I'm sorry but SU around 3 took it for me I heard every section clearly in tune the style and the Finesse that they put into that song Southern is truly a different band and I've been following Southern since the early 80s all the bands did an amazing job this is so amazing to see African Americans come together and celebrate with no violence if it was up to me this should have been on prime-time television!!!!! Do your thing HBCU!!!!

I don't why anyone would boo a HBCU Band. They represent something more than just their university.
Anyone that have been around for the last 35 years like I have could honestly tell you there are three distinct sounds in the HBCU band world over the years. The mellow R & B concert sound & arrangements of FAMU & the uptempo mellophone, high note intense trumpet, precision marching and brass sound arrangements of the Human Jukebox. If you put on a blindfold you can tell which band is which. Many bands in the SWAC including J-State are leaning towards sounding like SU over the past 25 years. Many MEAC bands are sticking to their traditional full sounding arrangements. This is why SU always states "Often Imitated and Never Duplicated" The Human Jukebox invented the term "Crank". Many Louisiana and New Orleans high schools adopted this style years ago, which is why many HBCUs love to recruit from NOLA. NOLA high school trumpets learn to play above the register at an early age, especially in the 70's & 80's. Check your history & old videos from 30 years ago...

I know this is an old azz post, but what a pointless history lesson…..All of what you said is super irrelevant…..The term “crank” as is “cranking up the volume” clearly didn’t come from SU band. Do some deeper research on the term or open a dictionary. Plus, everyone is not is trying to duplicate SU in today’s time.….Every band on this video has a completely different sound and swag from Southern’s. Plus, HBCU band culture doesn’t solely belong to SU even if SU was the first to do something. So TF what. SU surely didn’t invent instruments nor did they invent playing instruments loud. I know y’all want to claim everything that other HBCU bands do belongs to SU but it really doesn’t, and it sounds corny, lame, and extra weird because nobody actually cares even if it did.
