In 1980, When King Records Japan opened the rock label “Nexus”, NOVELA debuted as the first band of the “Nexus” label. During their amateur days, they were active as the prog band "SCHEHERAZADE" led by Hirayama (Gr), Before their professional debut, they merged with "SANSUIKAN". The members of Hirayama (Gt), Igarashi (Vo), Egawa (Key), and Akita (Dr) from “SCHEHERAZADE”, and Yoshiro Takahashi (B) and Mototsugu Yamane (Gt) from "SANSUIKAN", and changed their band name and formed “NOVELA”. This merger in 1980 gave rise to the unique NEWLY sounds mixed musicality of the ProgRock + Heavy Rock as the sound of NOVELA. We MUST NEVER FOGET the fact this was emerged in the Japan in "1980", Before the heavy metal movement 'NWOBHM tidal wave happened in UK in the '80s. And they were the band, before power metal, symphonic metal Bands, and even Iron Maiden and Metallica "not debuted" in Western music scene. ('81 Iron Maiden and '83 Metallica 1st were also released.) Incredibly, prog metal had a chemical reaction happening in Japan, not from the West. The fact was that this Proggie symphonic metal sound of NOVELA had already born in far east Japan in 1980. Of course, in 1980, when there were no words or categories such as symphonic metal or power metal in the world. Naturally, Japan had not yet debuted X-Japan, Visual Kei Metal, and even Loudness. How unique they were in 1980, and how they were underestimated and treated unfairly in Japan and around the world. Looking back now, you can see that fact.
Along the way, two members of the former Sansuikan and Akita (Dr.) with different musical directions left the group. (Former Sansuikan members formed the hard Rock band ACTION.) They have released nine original albums for seven years of activity while changing members. NOVELA Albums " La Songerie " (March 1980) "In the Night" (October 1980) "Paradise Lost" (December 1981) "Sanctuary" (1983) "Legend of the Last War" (1983) "The Last War Legend Part 2" (1984) "From the Mystic World" (1984, 2-disc live album) "Brain of Balance" (1985) "Words" (March 1986) last original album. Terutsugu Hirayama was a fan of the British prog band "Renaissance" with Annie Hazlam, so Novela and Scheherazade are named after Renaissance influences and respect.

先週10月25日，ライブに行きました。やっぱりいい。アンジーさんあの声を今も出される凄さ。ステージ上のやりとりは，昔ではなかったような円熟味があってほっこり。演者もファンもだんだん貴重な1日になってくるから、また機会が有ればどんどん参戦したい。本当にそう思いました。いつまでも皆さん憧れの存在です。久しぶりにまたコピーしたくなりました。

レコードはまだ手元に有りますが、肝心のレコードプレーヤーが無くて聴けなくなっていたので、久しぶりに聴いて40年前の青春時代をまさに『回想のかけら』をしました。
