He played in the EIHL. The new rule applies to lower levels in Scotland and England, not the EIHL (yet).
neck guards in sweden is mandatory both in junior and swedish hockey league since 1995 and I didn't know it wasn't in the US
why was this not mandatory after Clint Malarchuk neck was slashed ??and Adam's injury was a foul kick watch the replay
It was mandatory for Goalies after that incident, I think.
Why next year? Why not now?
Next year as in January 1st, two months from now. Gives teams enough time to order the stock they need. A lot of brands are sold out of neck guards now.
Takes time for administration
He was murdered by a foul kick meant for his chest that missed
The reporter is wrong. Neck guards are required for youth hockey in Canada. Probably required in some US states as well.
They are as far as I know. They were required 25 years ago. I will say those saying it’s just about comfort probably have no idea how much heat you generate playing hockey and how much a neck guard blocks your ability to cool down.
Yes they are
@@lumpty22 no they were not, i played hockey as a youth, at 29 i was not required to wear one as much as my parent begged me to. this is a freak accident and the only reason were hearing more of this is frequency bias. in my 25 years of playing and coaching ive not had one instance of a skate cutting a player. concussions were much bigger issues and one that i suffered from. dont witch hunt this
Here we go again. Whether it's a freak accident or not, you get better odds on winning the lottery, yet let's all have knee jerk reactions
Never thought I would see someone advocating against protection from kids' necks being sliced open but here we are.
@@Cole.Varial and you could be in a bad car accident from 2 feet by an error of judgement. What's your point?
@@user-pn8tt5yg8q And you likely will survive that car accident because of your seatbelt. Same thing with neck guards.
@@johnwhyte2638 that's the point. More then likely. How many hockey players have died from a slit throat in the last 20 years?
People were saying this when Formula 1 introduced the Halo on their cars. Not even five years later and it's already saved the lives of racers multiple times. It doesn't matter if it's rare, it's not causing problems with performances and is good for player safety. Implement it.
Why are they always trying to sell you stuff after a tragedy
