  • The Central Bank of DR Congo has ordered retailers and supermarkets in Kinshasa to exclusively accept payments in the local currency, the Congolese franc. This move will hopefully, reduce over-reliance on the U.S. dollar.

Why did Laurent Kabila change Zaire's currency to Franc (as is called in Congo today) ? The term Franc comes from France so it doesn't make sense. Also the name Zaire is better since the country's people are of diverse ethnic origin, the people of ancient Kongo kingdom are the BaKongo, majority of the population including Kabila himself are not BaKongo.
