I've heard the opinion that the movie is better, primarily for two things. The translation of the book is messy and unorganized, and the quality of it has dimmed due to the times. It lacks the empathetic connection that the movie has with its characters. The book relies on purely scientific writings, that takes away from the scariness as well.
