  • Thousands of criminals are being released early from South Africa's prisons due to overcrowding! During this video we explore the recent release of these inmates and some of South Africa's worst prisons to understand how they operate. We also take a look at the gang that controls them and how the release of these prisoners will affect South Africa.

The apartheid has destroyed South Africa, had your government offered black South African the same treatment you received we would not be in this mess! But your ego's grew big as you were in paradise and didn't see the danger of the future. Had you all stood up then and said "These people are a majority, the ANC will make fake promises to them and thus we will be out of power, therefore let us help them", the ANC would not have been in power. But because you are naturally selfish, this is where we are today, you thought the paradise was forever.

I have watched so many of your videos and I recall in one you asked a man, then in his 40s who'd first gone to prison for killing someone when he was 14 years old, if I remember those facts correctly. He was from Mannenberg and you asked him how many times he had been to prison. I think he said three times but then you asked a great question, "Where does he feel safer? In prison or on the streets of Mannenberg?". He replied, "In prison, because there is more brotherhood and it is safer...". It was chilling because as Capetonian, gangs and gang cartels are so intertwined in our world. No matter where you live. There is just so much nativity among those who don't come from the Cape Flats, or think it's an "isolated" issue.
I am grateful to you for your superb journalism and for managing to integrate yourself into a very dangerous world by sharing the stories of those living in these often overlooked communities. Most media are too afraid and too controlled by the current government to share their stories from an unbiased point of view.
In saying that. I could be angry as I know exactly which gang killed my innocent friend, and pretended to be interested in purchasing his car. Shot him, dumped his body and discarded his car. They only took his ID. Why? So that they could prove they were the ones who completed their initiation and were "rewarded" by going to prison. They needed to pass on a message to some higher-ranked gang leaders and were awarded the chance to have some "time off" in prison, as well as, rising in ranks. I haven't seen you cover much about that topic and have noticed many members who are open to talk on camera steer clear of the topic of "innocents" but focus on the initiations within their own gangs.

I am absolutely heartbroken to see my home country and family suffer, while growing up/living on the other side of the world.
My mom and I immigrated when I was 6 and I am forever grateful for not having an additional 20 ish years of South Africa trauma. And yet I have nightmares every night, paranoia and murdered and dead family members. Going back every year to visit my family in South Africa has been one of the hardest things ever, just seeing the place I once called home be filled with even more hate, downfall and crime. Every single day I am homesick and long to go back and yet I no long go because the decline is so unbearable to watch and hurts my soul. I hope that one day there will be a better South Africa.

Orania 😂a successful community???? Josh please be very careful in your research. I would call it a successful concept if it was inclusive but this is a black South African government allowing a group of privileged white people who can own property and basically not allow other races to be part of it 😮ironic considering this country is predominantly black but our colonialist created a community on our land and country 😂😂😂😂 the audacity of calling it a concept that can be replicated is so offensive. Most Africans in South Africa can’t afford land let alone have the privilege not to allow white people in 😂😂😂😂😂 whoa 😅😂 this is the funniest comment ever.

The law nowadays benefits being a criminal, not just in SA but all over the world. I agree that prison should be a place for reform, but only for certain criminals. How do murderers have prisoners' rights when they have taken away the rights of their victims??? The repercussions for crime don't outway the reward anymore. A man was released on good behaviour after 6 years in prison, after committing a double homicide, this same man was then paid to murder a whistle-blower, which he did... Tell me the death penalty shouldn't be reintroduced...

The only comment I do not agree with is that "it's not my job to come up with the solutions." Yes, we have elected public representatives and appointed government officials who are responsible for improving the well-being of all living in South Africa, but that doesn't mean that society, in general, should just sit back and criticize governments' failures. We can all contribute towards a more healthy and safe society, that's why there's public participation in government. After all, we're the ones who feel the effects of these challenges the most. Why wouldn't you want to help develop effective solutions to these problems?! If you're just going to leave it up to politicians and government officials to fix your problems for you, then you might as well give up hope that it'll get any better.

I am an American who watched the video. The USA & South Africa seem to have the same problems. In most cases South Africa's problems are America's problems on steroids

Voorberg, is known to b more hardcore, and dangerous.the longer the sentence, they move some prisoners around abit, as they get closer to the end of their sentance they move back to where they started. One general was burnt alive, to make way for the victor. So i can see why SA prisons are some of the worst in the world.

I live in europe in austria and we have the some of the best prisons on the planet because we get free drugs like morphine and also get money to buy tobacco and other stuff
People in our prisons would be so scared of getting into a south african prison holy shiit

I come from the ghettos. And 90% of my friends, are numbers or was in prison. And I refuse to blame the government. My friends love mischief and I've been warning them for years. I came from the same ghettos. But I'm a graphic designer and music producer. Majority of my friends that are numbers, had parents that looked after them better than most, and they ended up worse off than real hard livingchildren on the street. I blame individuals l. Everyone know what is right, and everyone know what is wrong. People love mischief and wicked deeds.

That still doesn't mean that gangs should rule prisons, some people are send there on petty crimes and then they are raped and tortured and we are supposed to normalize that. It's messed up. Prisons were not made for Gangs to rule and strive. We as a society are desensitized and that is Dangerous.
