This is easily one of my favourite channels in South Africa been here since day one watched every video except for one continue pushing Josh
Thank you so so much! Next year is going to be a big one 🤞🏽
@@wideawakepodcasthey can you hear people whispering in the next room?
South Africa is a timebomb, thanks for the post ❤
South Africa is heading down a dangerous path and I’ll be here to cover everything as it happens! 🫶🏼
The ANC as destroyed South Africa. Great work Josh - keep it coming hard and thick brother.
Of course it’s easy for you to say because you’re white. You basically saying you want pro apartheid government in charge??? Wow
The apartheid has destroyed South Africa, had your government offered black South African the same treatment you received we would not be in this mess! But your ego's grew big as you were in paradise and didn't see the danger of the future. Had you all stood up then and said "These people are a majority, the ANC will make fake promises to them and thus we will be out of power, therefore let us help them", the ANC would not have been in power. But because you are naturally selfish, this is where we are today, you thought the paradise was forever.
My heart breaks for the motherland.
I send hopes from Poland, where I am blessed to grow up and live in 💔
I have watched so many of your videos and I recall in one you asked a man, then in his 40s who'd first gone to prison for killing someone when he was 14 years old, if I remember those facts correctly. He was from Mannenberg and you asked him how many times he had been to prison. I think he said three times but then you asked a great question, "Where does he feel safer? In prison or on the streets of Mannenberg?". He replied, "In prison, because there is more brotherhood and it is safer...". It was chilling because as Capetonian, gangs and gang cartels are so intertwined in our world. No matter where you live. There is just so much nativity among those who don't come from the Cape Flats, or think it's an "isolated" issue.
I am grateful to you for your superb journalism and for managing to integrate yourself into a very dangerous world by sharing the stories of those living in these often overlooked communities. Most media are too afraid and too controlled by the current government to share their stories from an unbiased point of view.
In saying that. I could be angry as I know exactly which gang killed my innocent friend, and pretended to be interested in purchasing his car. Shot him, dumped his body and discarded his car. They only took his ID. Why? So that they could prove they were the ones who completed their initiation and were "rewarded" by going to prison. They needed to pass on a message to some higher-ranked gang leaders and were awarded the chance to have some "time off" in prison, as well as, rising in ranks. I haven't seen you cover much about that topic and have noticed many members who are open to talk on camera steer clear of the topic of "innocents" but focus on the initiations within their own gangs.
I came to know Christ in jail in 2013 by reading a book, "Overcoming spiritual blindness" by James P. Gills MD. The veil was taken off my eyes. Heaven came through for me in my finances too, getting $25,000 monthly. I can support God's work and give back to my community. God is absolutely more than enough!
Sure, the investment-advisor that guides me is..
Mrs Cathie Wood
😱Sounds familiar, I have heard her name on several occasions.. and both her success stories in the wall Street journal!!!
Her services is the best, I got a brand new Lambo last week and paid off my mortgage loan thanks to her wonderful services!
Make a note regarding your interest in investing
Great content Josh💯
We should be keeping young man from going to prison rather than releasing them due to overcrowding.
We as South Africans, just cant win.
Thank you for covering this up man its really crime crisis and its crazy how drugs get easly in and out in SA jails.....I really don't know where this country is heading😢
I am absolutely heartbroken to see my home country and family suffer, while growing up/living on the other side of the world.
My mom and I immigrated when I was 6 and I am forever grateful for not having an additional 20 ish years of South Africa trauma. And yet I have nightmares every night, paranoia and murdered and dead family members. Going back every year to visit my family in South Africa has been one of the hardest things ever, just seeing the place I once called home be filled with even more hate, downfall and crime. Every single day I am homesick and long to go back and yet I no long go because the decline is so unbearable to watch and hurts my soul. I hope that one day there will be a better South Africa.
Fantastic, observant, ground level journalism
So glad I found your channel ❤
Keep up the great work Josh
Good work man. Nice to see you keeping your composure and focus when faced with a real criminal. I'm referring to the 1st guy you interviewed
This Podcast is just Different and Touching,Thank you Brother we Need these kinda Conversations 😔😔
Thank you for posting. South Africa was much safer 40 years ago.
It’s my pleasure! I’ll be posting a lot more videos like this in the coming months
So Josh agrees that it was much safer when Black People lived in fear...Zimbabwean Apartheid apologists must go home.
@@alternativeview99I also see the double standard
Really was. People are just getting uglier by the day
This is powerful information. Keep up the good work
Great job Josh, super vid👌
I would love to see a discussion between a psychiatrist, a social worker, and a prison warden on how we can reform prisoners and integrate them back into our society. Or whichever professionals need to be a part of that conversation.
Straight from the Cape Flats, I love your video's, keep it up, very informed.
I appreciate your good work, my brother. Thank you 🙏🙏🙏💯🇿🇦
Very well put together video Josh. This topic is so sad as a south african as our government has shown us corruption for years & yet our justice system fails us. 2024 year for change🙏
excellent content bro, very informative stuff
-New subscriber
Life is cheap in South Africa
When people were more religious and spiritual there were a lot fewer crimes than today
GOD bless you and your family as always great content keep it up my brother.
fantastic work man
This is critical information keep on sharing knowledge to inform society
Missed you brah. Love from Canada 🇨🇦
The point of prison is not rehabilitation , it's punishment.
punishment does rehabilitate
Punishment is entertainment
If prison is not rehabilitation, then no one should ever leave prison
not that of punishment in the video, and yes it is for rehabilitation, depends on the crime though, have some humanity.
@@Natikyblue I have 1000x more humanity than people like you, my compassion goes to the victims of crimes and not the perpetuators, the State does not have the power of rehabilitation, that belongs to the individual, only someone with an IQ of room temperature would even suggest that prison is for rehabilitation 🤣
Excellent job bro 💥
Thanks for the content
Josh...I hope you do a podcast on Orania...that's a community of people that's successful inspite off government ...this concept can be replicated in any community that has the will to change for the greater good.
That is literally the next topic I wanted to discuss! I’m also planning on going there very soon
Orania 😂a successful community???? Josh please be very careful in your research. I would call it a successful concept if it was inclusive but this is a black South African government allowing a group of privileged white people who can own property and basically not allow other races to be part of it 😮ironic considering this country is predominantly black but our colonialist created a community on our land and country 😂😂😂😂 the audacity of calling it a concept that can be replicated is so offensive. Most Africans in South Africa can’t afford land let alone have the privilege not to allow white people in 😂😂😂😂😂 whoa 😅😂 this is the funniest comment ever.
Great video and information
Great pod… 👏, prison stats?
Not adding the sexual part regarding 28s is dishonest, its in their number for crying out loud.
These videos need to be seen internationally by more people
Great content.
The best update about mzansi
josh the goat for sharing this knowledge
5:49 so true. Turning innocent people into killers. Good one Josh
Most young men are send to this prisons for just committing petty crimes and the abuse they go through is heartbreaking and it's so messed up how it is normalized. Then when they come out they are messed up. Something has to be done, we can not let it go on. Gangs should not be allowed to rule prisons and take advantage of young boys.
Well said Josh.
Thank you! 🙏🏼
I have been visiting the country for 6 years and was attacked 3 weeks ago and unfortunately I have to realize that this year is different. It's high season and you can tell by all the robberies.
I’m so sorry you got attacked🙏🏽
It's sad but all my friends from SA say sorry, but now you are a South African. It's hard for me to understand all of this or find a solution to it. I would still recommend everyone to visit the country because I experience a lot of warmth from the communities here.@@mantsixx3592
can we all share this video and this is a eye opener to us all facts clarified here
I love how Kenny Mckenzie's story always changes per interview. I remeber him tell this story when he was a motivational speaker straight from prison early release. Its always different and he knows how to make it real
so he is lying
@@vusumuzimathumo-githendu6949 I was not there and never lived his life, so I cannot say whether he is lying or not but what I can say is that his stories change all the time. I was in Matric when he delivered this story, 18 years later it has changed each time I have heard it from him
wow this is actually scary😢.
Because they want to "remedy the symptom" and not "cure the disease", through structures set to do this.
Great video
Great job .👏
Bro you should totally get mr thela on your pod!!
good content and info
Stay safe
When are you doing your own Pollsmoor documentary? :)
I would love to!! I just need someone to help me get access..
@@wideawakepodcast keeping fingers crossed that you do. I doubt there is anyone other than yourself who would pull off a solid one.
What is wrong with this country? Everything is failing 🇺🇲💔🇿🇦😢
Shout out to u man for exposing the horrors our government is endorsing
Please keep these videos going. I'm crying while watching. Its devastating that these are the facts and there's no help from government.
Please cover the pressing matters like Eskom’s crisis. Government corruption. I’m happy a fellow South African has a decent platform. Help make a change for our country 🙏🏾
This was a short video but brilliantly executed Josh - well done 👍🏻
This vid gave me chills
Love the content Josh, but u kinda remind me of big ears from the Irishman movie, love it though bro 😅
Insightful content and very thought providing. I'd still love to get in contact with you regarding a potential podcast with Sheldon The Sniper. Happy New Year!
Wow Josh i just want to say that you are doing a fantastic job of journalism, the ANC has destroyed a rainbow nation it's time for a drastic change, may the Lord Almighty help us all.Keep up the good work brother you are in my prayers.
G4S😮 we have them in the UK. That crazy
If you're from SA, leave while you can, this place will not change any time soon, if ever.
This government has failed the people miserably
Best channel in SA
I like this dude and his videos even with his big ears.
As if we don't have enough crime on our streets already. Voetsek ANC Voetsek
Josh Coronation Park and Orania should be investigated. Our current government is responsible for the continuation of these places. However it would be awesome to take us through the history of the why, how, what and what can be done for them to be inclusive and also having the government help people living in poverty because in spite of race seeing innocent babies in situations like this is disheartening. Help should be provided but racism is wrong and should not be tolerated
Lol what? If people want to live on their own let them. Why are you focusing on breaking down others instead of helping
Just build more prisons, then over crowding and dangers to the guards decreases.
Cyril Ramaphosa does not know how to lead this country I mean like I would rather let a gangster lead the country .But anyways Josh amazing content love it
Ever since he become president things have become more worse
@wideawakepodcast I do not know if you have covered anything close to is it through that if a police man or anyone working for the Government when they get arrested they get to be put in a different section in pollsmoor
let me just leave my comment here quick quick before this bombs up 😁💯
Thanks for the support! 😂🫡
Josh ur able to make a difference if u keep on fighting
We need a new Government in place, we asked with the NP and we asked with Anc. Who can we really depend on that will usher the change that is needed in this country. Corruption is in every country I understand that but if we can just get a piece of accountability and make it snowball then we can tackle the problems at hand.
A real life horror story. This country has been sinking slowly into the mud of lawlessness. Judges are weak, legislation is weak. Justice system slow and investigations pathetic. How do we expect a good prison system when all else in government is failing! 😮
hom salute ndoda keep it strong
Build more prisons man!! don't release prisoners!! that's like saying 'why have prisons in the first place'
You raise a good point and i tend to agree, definitely a link with the Zuma saga. It’s political sorcery in action to make both Zuma and the pressure of Cyrils government to drop charges all disappear.
This was during the covid period.. A guy I know was also released.. mostly those with minor crimes where released
I am 10 minutes away from Leeuwkop Prison😢! Maybe it’s time to move
The law nowadays benefits being a criminal, not just in SA but all over the world. I agree that prison should be a place for reform, but only for certain criminals. How do murderers have prisoners' rights when they have taken away the rights of their victims??? The repercussions for crime don't outway the reward anymore. A man was released on good behaviour after 6 years in prison, after committing a double homicide, this same man was then paid to murder a whistle-blower, which he did... Tell me the death penalty shouldn't be reintroduced...
i can hear you good bro
thxxx
I was in prison in South Africa, and it's true, everything you say.
I mean, this is normal as far as I’m concerned, we have this in America without slums.
The only comment I do not agree with is that "it's not my job to come up with the solutions." Yes, we have elected public representatives and appointed government officials who are responsible for improving the well-being of all living in South Africa, but that doesn't mean that society, in general, should just sit back and criticize governments' failures. We can all contribute towards a more healthy and safe society, that's why there's public participation in government. After all, we're the ones who feel the effects of these challenges the most. Why wouldn't you want to help develop effective solutions to these problems?! If you're just going to leave it up to politicians and government officials to fix your problems for you, then you might as well give up hope that it'll get any better.
our government has failed us and I don't think our future will ever get any better
Those who want to change will change. Change is not in prison. That's what I've learnt from my friends and brother who've been in jail. But these prison are fucked up that's the truth
Prisons in america are only a few years away from being this.
They used to be like that in the 70s and 80s
If you see how its outside you can think how it will be inside.actuality good if you tell this maybe some will be think again.
212,000 inmates Divided by 240 prisoners gives you approximately 883 prisoners per prison that doesn’t seem a lot.. is your numbers correct and if so what am I missing? 1:27
Three letters to sum this up. A.N.C. Zuma is the highest risk and should be punished as an enemy to the state.
I am an American who watched the video. The USA & South Africa seem to have the same problems. In most cases South Africa's problems are America's problems on steroids
Bro you should get shebeshxt on your podcast.
Everything has failed, the only thing that still works is the SA Revenue Service.
Bullshit
There is no escaping from the numbers gang
Voorberg, is known to b more hardcore, and dangerous.the longer the sentence, they move some prisoners around abit, as they get closer to the end of their sentance they move back to where they started. One general was burnt alive, to make way for the victor. So i can see why SA prisons are some of the worst in the world.
Agree neighbouring countries are more safer.
I live in europe in austria and we have the some of the best prisons on the planet because we get free drugs like morphine and also get money to buy tobacco and other stuff
People in our prisons would be so scared of getting into a south african prison holy shiit
I come from the ghettos. And 90% of my friends, are numbers or was in prison. And I refuse to blame the government. My friends love mischief and I've been warning them for years. I came from the same ghettos. But I'm a graphic designer and music producer. Majority of my friends that are numbers, had parents that looked after them better than most, and they ended up worse off than real hard livingchildren on the street. I blame individuals l. Everyone know what is right, and everyone know what is wrong. People love mischief and wicked deeds.
That still doesn't mean that gangs should rule prisons, some people are send there on petty crimes and then they are raped and tortured and we are supposed to normalize that. It's messed up. Prisons were not made for Gangs to rule and strive. We as a society are desensitized and that is Dangerous.
