Loving Jays development over these last couple of years. Nothing better than two friends having fun with cars obviously yours are on a different scale to most but still what an adventure. Keep the good times coming guys and best of luck in November.
tip with printers: always print a line/segment of a known length in both X and Y direction on your page, to measure with a Caliper when you're doing such prototyping, so that you know the lengths are correct. It is an easy way to both check you are printing at the right scale, and that the scale didn't change from print to print. Sometimes printer will reset the settings to default after closing/opening the CAD software, and you may loose the Scaling property you had previously set. That said, it's impressive how accurate a common printer is, once the scaling is set correctly. I always used printed drawings when I worked with metallurgy making welding jigs, bending and stamping tools and poka-yoke devices.
Hey Phil. Message for jay. I really hope he knows how much he has progressed in a really short span of time. I hope he’s super proud of himself… because he really should be! Beast mode
Drive mine with 255 without any issues and next year I plan is to run 295 at the front and I think will be no issues with. The way it’s fit in the e30 is amazing. Good job lads 🥇🥇🥇
@@georgivasilev9895 Ahh, makes sense 👍 awesome 😍 I am battling the idea of 12J front wheels on my next build 🤣 the car originally came with 12" fronts but if I am going to use it on UK roads I need some turning radius for junctions 😆 I may need to get a couple of inches taken out of the barrel 🤔 not sure how I am going to tackle that one yet 😂 Thanks😎👍
I suspect you need to select all the lines, do a right click and look for a command like "group" or some synonym thereof. It's many years since I have done or taught CAD. What's the program you're using called. When you select lines in some programs it does different things depending which way you window around them. Edit - I think it say's QCAD so I googled and found this... "How can I group entities? Groups are called 'blocks' in CAD / QCAD. Think of a block as a group with a name. The advantage of blocks over groups is that blocks can be inserted multiple times in various locations at different angles and scales. The most common way to create a block in QCAD is by selecting the entities you want to be in the group and then choosing menu Block > Create Block from Selection. Then you need to enter a name for the new block. Make sure to enable the block list to manage blocks. Keep in mind that once defined, a block can be inserted multiple times if needed."
I’m pretty sure you are right we’re using qcad and the free version on our computer doesn’t have the join command. Craig has the pro version which does though. The 3rd bracket went much smoother.
Lots of great ideas man, I’ve currently mid engine converted my 190e (you saw it at last years retros at Mallory) and am using a Mitsubishi rack but currently manual steering so looking at a column like this 🙏
There was a bit of flex in the whole steering bracket, I don't know how much you guys think is acceptable, personally I'd strengthen it. If the Clio mk3 EPS does not work, I'd suggest a hydraulic Subaru Impresa WRX STI 2004 to 2007 "quick" steering rack (part number 34110FE550). Also, Jay you know what 'CAD. stands for ? -----> Cardboard Assisted Design.......
I second this and I'm surprised Phil with his perfectionism didn't mind. Even in the shaky video you can see the main steering column bracket (the one welded to the roll cage) flexing substantially in twist. At 25:56 you can see that it has been cut in such way that there's no material left below the speed hole. All of the force that was being generated by Phil's shoulders when he was manhandling it is now being applied to that weakened bracket, which is, unlike Phil's shoulders, not almost a meter wide. If the bracket flexes this much, it might develop a crack and eventually snap. @JayDontGotThis and @driftworks, please pay attention to this, if you haven't already.
Do you prefer grip driving to drifting now? I'm not a big BMW fan, but i love this E30 (equally the looks and mechanical side to the build). Id love to see a lap time comparison of now vs when the car did its very first trackday, to get an idea of how much time per lap of a difference the development has made.
Great episode. Like mentioned in my comment to the original request, I have the same EPAS and haven’t got around to fitting it yet. I really like the new bearing support tube Jay made and I think I will be stealing that idea! Thanks Jay. I am worried about how light it is though? I wonder if that can be messed with by tweaking the electronics?…
They aren’t too lite on a clio so I guess it depends on the car. I’m not sure if you can swap to a different resistance knob the old system would just turn off if the knob went out of range.
@@JayDontGotThis possibly. I’ll try it in my application first before any additional tinkering. Maybe a preemptive chat with the controller may answer a few questions?
Hard to tell what CAD package you are using, but if it's like autocad you just select all the lines. Click on modify and click join it will make the lines a polyline.
Hi mark its Q cad , it’s sometimes when two ends overlap or not joined perfectly . Think we have it now with poly lines , need to use more to get it dialled in !! , cut well just our lack or experience with it
Hi guys. Can you tell me what are the diameters of the pistons in the brake cylinders, front/rear? are they bigger than 19mm? An answer would really help me. Congrats on the steering column. I follow you with love
jay, you should try to export the file as a DXF, standard filetype for these machines. i can send you a DM and explain you how to export a DXF from f360
It’d just be more equipment to try and learn how to use. I’d be nice but we’d realistically only use it a few times a year and forget how it works in between.
Hi this is Phil, welcome to JayWorks
😂

Welds are looking great
Been around to see Dad....thanks Craig 😂😂
Funny as all the best videos are pretty much just Jay and Craig. Now there’s a channel I’d actually subscribe to.
Loved how detailed this was. Well done Jay!
Awesome skillz from Jay and of course another welcome cameo from Craig 👌
Thanks for the " bwacket", Jay. I needed that...
Jay and Craig working it!

You know it’s Driftworks when Jay draws Phil’s annoying spirit level in cad 🤣
Great vid again 👍
" ask me how I know". I feel you, Jay.

Well-done Jay, welding looks to be coming on well.
Nice to see Craig’s baby Pajero and the (almost) perfect RWB at the Den. Your persistence is much appreciated.
Accidental Slow Mo !
You guys make me laugh ! Love how you keep it real :)
It is the greatest biscuit of all time, isn't it 👌
I am glad I watched this as I was considering fitting lecky to the Tvr Cimaera in place of the troublesome & sometimes leaky power steering.
Everyone needs a Jay!
Anytime Phil comes out you know theres gonna a complete redesign 😅
Really enjoy the content at the min!!
Dunno how my buddy Jay puts up with Phil’s spirit level actions. But fair play 💪🏼💪🏼
Nice work. I hope it works out well for you and the steering feels nice 👍

Great mod to the steering, noticed on Retropowers latest video that Phil and Craig went to the Retropower open day at the Den.

Cool idea with the epas, can you gradually adjust it right down to zero assist?
I’d love to see Jays e30 get some similar word done. And rear suspensions!
I’m happy with mine as it is.
Chocolate hobnobs... **drools**
Steady progress on the m3 love it, di you sell that pwm module for power steering
C'mon, Jay. You knew it was NEVER going to be that easy making something for Phil. 😂

Bwackits on top of bwackits is very BMW. Prove it works, then one new column supoort with integral adjustment, clocks mount and a cup holder.

Any recommendations for a good AC/DC single phase tig?

When you at anglesey?
Is Accidental Slo-mo the name of Jay and Phil's new band ?
Any updates on Merci MK2?
Is it safe to have one of those in the cockpit without any plates covering it?
Is it ror in November?
Pretty brave of Jay to be amateur welding a steering column after what happened to Senna!
Brilliant job
Waterjet? Must be better or?
Don't these systems normally have a speed sensor input so they're finger-tip light while parking, but weight up nicely at speed?
You can add a gps module if you want but we just use the manual knob, it doesn’t need to be easy to park.
T1000 Jay

Hi
Is the outline drawn as a closed polyline? I’m a CAD guy but not a metalwork guy so it may not matter.
It’s not seeing it as a poly line , think we have found a setting for it ( I hope )
