The Reichskanzler thing is too simplified, I fear. Since the Weimar Republic had NO minimum percentage clause (as modern Germany has with 5% of the popular vote), the Reichstag had a lot of representatives with very narrow interests. For a long time there was NO majority in parliament. The president named a chancellor, who then had to run a minority government - often voted down on decision (think Obama and the 2 houses being run by the GOP). The president worked through - let's call them executive orders to make them sound more familiar - but parliament could shut down those too after some time had passed. So it was chaos. Utter chaos. And remember the hyper-inflation. With Hitler's NSDAP getting 33% in the election, the conservatives were able to form a majority coalition with him - and THAT sounded promising to the president. No more minority government - no more standstill and bickering - finally some governing. Well ... it did SOUND good ... things did not turn out as expected, though.

@@HeyImDepressed Well in a lot of places on earth, history classes were not all about Europe. Previously I read a book written by Trevor Noah, he said that one of his friend was named Hitler because they assumed it was a name of strength. "The white people ask for our help because of Hitler? It must be some very strong tank or something."
So yeah, once he brought that friend Hitler to the local Jews community school to perform some dancing and music mixture. You could probably imagine the face of the school teacher when Trevor and his other friend chanting "Hitler", "Hitler" in front of all the jew kids.

Essentially, attempting to overthrow the results of the election, and the government by extension. About the Hitler-Trial since we just learned about it in school.
In 1923 there were still a lot of ex-German Empire judges still in their pre-war positions and due to that, a large portion of them still identified more with the German Empire which was a lot more right-wing than the newly formed Weimar Republic. You can actually see the bias of these more conservative judges when you look at the harsh punishments for left-wing crime and the overall very lax punishment of right-wing crime.
    Hope that clears it up.

I think the Aryan spin on the whole thing was a huge propaganda campaign personally. I'm a firm believer of actions speak louder than words and the actions of the Nazi party really don't seem like they cared about the whole Aryan thing.
1: They had zero issue employing/recruiting non-Aryans. If said person would work for their cause, they didn't care who or what they were (Jews being the only exception).
2: They said the Britons were "brothers" and the Slavs are "racial trash". Both are "brothers" of the Aryans, so why the different treatment? Because the Slavs were communist, the main enemy.
3: Logically it doesn't make sense, it appeals more to emotions. Politics 101
4: After the regime was established the rhetoric gradually died down.
5: A sense of pride needed to be instilled in the people to get out of a depression and rebuild the nation. Race was something everyone is born with, anyone (German) could take part.
6: Germany was still very homogeneous, so using something as basic as race to unite an ideologically divided people was effective. "German National" couldn't used because nationalities can change, they needed something cemented.

    • @tzarcoal1018
      @tzarcoal1018 5 лет назад

I agree that ideology is in many cases just a tool and in most cases everything is much more pragmatic. But I disagree with you about the British /Slavic Comparison. Keep in mind that the more modern idea of Aryan Race = White People is something that comes from the US. It was all a lot different back then. There was a very clear feeling of Supremacy towards slavic people. They were seen as lesser humans and not as Aryan Brothers. The people they did not look down were the ones speaking a germanic language.
They were heavily into old germanic paganism and sagas and used the related languages and old traditions as the common denominator, not the color of the skin (as it is now used in the US)
Just compare how they annexed Denmark and how they annexed Czechoslovakia, you can see a pretty big difference.
And one of those languages that is a germanic language is English that is the reason why they saw them as brothers. And your statement about communism is bullshit, the Russian were communist but not all others slavs, like poles czechs..

    • @DrewPicklesTheDark

@@tzarcoal1018 I am aware the others won't, much like how the Soviet Union was not all Russians, yet were still referred to as "The Russians", Russians were the majority so I just assumed the point would get across.
I think you are off about the Germanic language group thing, because Yiddish is a Germanic language, and obviously Ashkenazi were still hated, and the Slavic languages still have Indo-European (or "Aryan") roots, and the Finnish does not yet he (Hitler) was fine with them. As I said I think it was propaganda to hype up a war against the USSR.

Nope, they were "bad", becouse they were supposedly taking "rightful" German land.
Polish were not communists, but still they were among the most hated nations by nazis.
Slavic lands were suppose to be esentially German colonies in Europe exploited to the level that only Congo Free State would be comparable.

14:30 fun fact: in my year 9 (UK) history classes, this was one of the topics we learned about. We did a mock "court case", where it was supposed to be half of the class defending the Nazis and the other half defending the communists. I was on the side of defending the Nazis, but in the end, I was about the only one of my class willing to do so, and ended up literally having to debate against almost my entire class. I almost won, too. But they kept interrupting my counter-arguments, and the teacher (who was acting as the judge - and the jury) called it all off.
In the end, he actually praised me and said that had my classmates not prevented the trial from continuing by being an overwhelming disturbance (he actually had sent 3 of my peers out into the hallway for their nonstop insults - because I was doing what the teacher had told is to), I would have won, as my arguments and counter-arguments were, in his own words, "incredibly well thought out and put together, even the ones that were put together on the spot" and he was apparently impressed at how well I (an autistic kid with anger issues), held myself together in front of nothing short of bullying by my classmates, only going so far as to throw light verbal jabs in the form of the kins of jokes and play-on-words that you might find some kinder judges making.
All in all, this was supposed to be "graded" (not officially, but sort of as a non-examined test of our verbal capabilities, vocabulary and quick-thinking deduction skills), and while most of my class got F's, some got B's because they did well and didn't join in the bullying, one got an A because they were almost as good at this as me, the couple of my peers who had stayed on my side all got B's and A's for throwing a few good arguments, and I got an A*/A+ for basically outshining everyone. That's how it always has been with me. Can't write what I think well, but can verbalise it like a champion orator.

At the of 9:30... you just nailed it, man. As soon as A.H. recognised part of the people running the trial had sympathy for his ideas, he took the opportunity. He was defending himself but he managed to turn the defence into public speeches. And they let him to do so. The newspapers articles about the trial were printed (no surprise there, it was a trial with the leader of failed revolution), which helped to spread what he is saying, what his ideas are and how he stands with those ideas against the trial. Sonot only he could have spek to the people presented at the trial itself, newspapers were spreading it even more.
That was another important step in his journey for popularity. And being imprisoned for his ideals? (which sounded so nice and right to many people in the troubled Germany of that time) He is a martyr!
He wrote that famous book in the prison, but he made himself well known by the trial. And what he gained through the trial served as a promotion, and basicaly free advertisment, for the book, when it came out.
At the time of 12:30... There was another thing, that wasn't mentioned by you nor by the original video. At that time the political situation in Germany was extremely unstable. When new government was put together, it stayed there much shorter time then it should, resigned (or was forced to resign through some failure) and new election started. It happened severaltimes in a row. So not only von Papen and Hindenburg hoped they could keep some control over A.H. as chancelor, they also believed (and hoped) he wouldn't stay at this post much longer anyway. They were counting he would be chancelor for a several months, maybe a year. And who can blame them. At that time it wasnt about "if he resign", but more "when". That was what they thought, according to the experience with several previous governments and chancelors.
At the time of 14:00... It wasn't burned by nazis. And it wasn't burned by communists either. It was Marinus van der Lubbe, communist from Netherlands, but he claimed he was acting alone. And the trial didn't find almost anything to connect Lubbe with any big communist plan in Germany. But either way, you again nailed it. They used it as much and as best they could.

  • @BIOSHOCKFOXX
    @BIOSHOCKFOXX 5 лет назад +4

@7:03 - I am not supporting what Hitler did, but I feel the pain of being bullied, and this is on a world scale that Germany had, bullied by everyone just because of WW1, but it was too much. Watching the part where France occupied a place and basically stole resources, I started to think that if it would've continued, a place like Germany wouldn't exist, or would be shrunken down to a very small size, unless at later point in future, if there wouldn't be WW2, bigger nations would stop it and become more humanized, thus giving back what belongs to them etc. and recreating the government.
I am kind of glad that someone came into power to show bullies the real pain, but then again, it was over the line as well. It's a hard feeling to describe, but basically I personally dislike the bullying that is being supported by the reasons of WW1, others simply saw it a good way to earn on afterwards.
I mean, If my country would've been in same state, others bully the locals/natives, and suddenly someone steps in who had enough with it, I am not sure if I would join, but I would definitely support because I am patriotic by heart (not that much, not so nationalistic and far right, but it would depend from how fair something is being done, whether it becomes a bullying or justified act as means of balancing out), and I wouldn't like the idea of someone doing something like that, that isn't really justified with similar amount, basically being unfair.

It outlines each and every step along the way, including the decisions made by the individuals.

However, iirc he also mentioned how Hitler was pretty pissed about the event.

One year, Germany missed their deadine for when to pay reparations, due to all the economic crisis going on there, the French didn't like that and decided "Hey, if Germany can't pay the money they owe us, we'll go to Germany, and take their resources until we have enough of Germany's resources to pay for what Germany owes us" and so they did, they went to the Ruhr and took resources from factories by force. This was a huge catastrophe for Germany as the Ruhr was their industrial power house, it generated more resources for Germany that any other German place, so now not only did the Germans have no money due to the amount they owed to the allies (Hyperinflatiom hadn't started yet), and now they weren't getting important industrial resources. They had to do something, and so they did.
When the French occupied the Ruhr, all they were doing was stealing from factories, but they didnt work in the factories themselves, so the German government encouraged all German workers in the Ruhr to go on strike and the German government would pay them back when it was all over. And so they did, the German people started going on strike, and the French weren't happy, they killed a few Germans and forced some back to work, but the strengh of the strike was so large that the French couldn't stop it, so they went back to France. And it was a decisive victory for the Germans, they had kicked the French out of the Ruhr with no consequence what so ev... Oh wait, the German government said they would pay back all the workers who went on strike. The issue is, they didnt have enough money to do so, so they print more money, and thus started Hyperinflation

To explain how Hitler got that mild punishment of 5 years (9 month), we learned a saying in school. It can be translated as "The justicesystem was blind on its right eye". That is supposed to say how many justice officials were sort of cool with the right wing and didnt punish them as hard as they should have.
