- Brass Quintet in ζ - Yoav Shati (2024)
Composed for a challenge where the "ζ scale" is made of the notes F, G, A, B♭, B♮, C, and E♭ (sometimes written D♯ to fit a B major harmony)
This is very much outside of my usual style, which is a thing I say quite a lot lately. It feels a bit like music from an action movie or something and has touches of jazz harmony

That's very restrictive... An extra note or two and I might do it

@@yoavshatiits a pentatonic scale. not that restrctive, but if you really want an extra note, maybe a G or a Db in there. or even a B.

It's not very restrictive for a melody, but if all the parts have to use just these notes then harmony becomes quite limited. The only consonant triad there is Ebm, and even simplifying to dyads doesn't bring that number up that much...
Maybe quartal harmony can work, but I already used that and didn't really like it
