Definitely the right strategic plan - lots of sustainable cardio, relatively normal (minus the egg) food consumption, with a binge meal planned for the end. As you said at the end, more hydration/electrolytes would have helped. I also wonder if starting the clock after a prolonged rest (mess your sleep schedule up for a few days, then sleep for about 15 hours, then stay up for 24 hours straight for the challenge) would help? A few extra hours to spread out the intensity of the cardio may have helped.

great job Mark, you did very well! I tried this a few weeks ago and got to around 7300 calories burnt by 7 pm (but wasn't counting 'resting' calories) but I had only eaten about 5000 calories and felt really full so I gave up there. In hindsight I'm annoyed that I gave up instead of trying to push through but I am already planning on what I can do differently to complete the full challenge another time and you gave me some ideas as well!
The half an egg still left over when you hit 10k kcal burned means you were in extreme deficit. I’d imagine your electrolytes were really low. Also since you’re pretty lean, your body didn’t have reserves to handle the energy deficit.
Actually pretty impressed with the results of this. Will definitely over-prioritized the food a bit, but both of you guys are good TV in your approaches.

love the video, great fun to watch, my record is burning 18.000kcal in one day when i cycled for 24h crossing Portugal North to South (740km with 9000m elevation), not sure how much i actually ate, but i guess around 10-12.000 but mostly liquid energy drinks as nutrition :-)

In the end when Mark is talking about how Alpe de Zwift has a special place In his Heart - while the video montage is showing him tremblin at end of a Zwift session and then Falling off the bike - made me laugh. 😅
I always wonder how accurate those calorie tracking watches really are. For example on a day i take my adhd medication my heart rate will be higher, so the watches think im burning a lot more calories, which definitely isnt always the case
I think they are relatively accurate for relatively lean people. At least my old Polar watch overestimates the resting energy consumption of fat, so I just put in my estimated lean weight (lower end of healthy BMI) and that seems relatively accurate.
Just thought of something. The "rest calories" of the Garmin are based on your typical daily calorie expenditure for your height/weight. But during the challenge you ate a lot more than usual. Your body had to process all this food, it must take quite a lot of energy to move several days worth of food around and digest it. I wonder how many more calories you actually burnt.
16:03 Mark, one practical tip for rowing: connect your watch to the PM5 (register the PM5 as an ANT+ SmartTrainer sensor), and it will register the row more accurate. Given your normal 2K pace, you should be able to burn more calories than me in a 1 hour row and I burn around 850.
When I saw your stress during sleep chart on your Garmin watch I could see what a bad night you had 😢,I hope you're ok now?as someone who is Autistic with a PHD in anxiety(according to the phycologist at my Autism assessment😂) I regularly suffer high stress levels during the night and wake up with a graph like that on my Garmin app and it sucks(I don't have excruciating cramps though) ,the next day is hard , you're completely drained,I admire what you achieved that day before it went pear shaped but please don't do it again, you're one of my favorite You tubers so I'd rather you didn't die 😢

Too old to be out late every night 😂
First time viewer to your channel here. Interesting to watch!
I always wonder how accurate those calorie tracking watches really are. For example on a day i take my adhd medication my heart rate will be higher, so the watches think im burning a lot more calories, which definitely isnt always the case
I think they are relatively accurate for relatively lean people. At least my old Polar watch overestimates the resting energy consumption of fat, so I just put in my estimated lean weight (lower end of healthy BMI) and that seems relatively accurate.
you had me many times almost peeing myself from laughing with this one. Humor on point like always. Hats down to you Sir :D
Gee I fail to get 4000. It’s so difficult. 10k seems like a nightmare.
It was 😂
I can't believe you finished off that day going up Alpe de Zwift. Beast! "I should just walk towards the light". 🤣
5:16 - how on earth did you manage to keep a straight face? :D
Practice 😁
This is the first video of his, that I’ve seen. And man, I never thought a fitness video could be this funny:D Love this dude!
I took it very very easy 😂 the pm5 is hooked to EXR on the pc but a good point about the Garmin!
I like how at 2:27 he says “very little tossing” then in a split second realises that might be a funny innuendo so covers it by adding “or turning”
