It is interesting that we can contrast aspects of Hell against our lives, in this modern day.
Hopefully we can come to appreciate the perspective offered by these readings, as a broader people.
One day, may we see the light.
    Keep on sharing!

    This is so well narrated.
It sounds completely neurotic & insane tho, that people see life through this lens of fear & guilt.

None of it sounds "completely neurotic and insane" to me... nor is it about seeing life through a lens of fear and guilt. My take, especially of parts 3 ("Think Often of Hell & its Punishments") and 4 ("Help Souls in Purgatory") is that it is a message of fairness, compassion, devotion (to other people as well as God), and forgiveness. As for unmitigated fear and guilt, you should compare St. Thomas Aquinas to Calvinists! Yet even 18th century Reverend Jonathan Edwards, specifically, "Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God" (that title!) has many memorable passages about tolerance and humility. Lots of great prose too!

@@EllieK I get it, especially the prose but I think fear of going to hell & punishment is a terrible incentive and only creates unnecessary fear and guilt for otherwise normal people. It would be better to focus on what kind of world we want to leave behind for our children, rather than eternal damnation in hell.

I have a question please. Starting at 4:50 why is it not wonderful that we can help the souls in purgatory by the three means given? I might not understand the language, the second clause of that sentence. What does "make satisfaction" mean?

At the Source link in the video description, it gives a more modern translation: "All this is not so amazing, for even in this world a friend can pay a debt for his friend; but this applies only to those who are in purgatory." I think this makes the meaning clearer, please let me know what you think.
