- This presentation will go through the history, background, and requirements to perform an appropriate ethylene oxide sterilization validation. Topics cover the EO process from start to finish including: cycle development, PCD determination, process validation, required testing, requalification, and product adoption.
Why do toxic cancer causing substances need to be used when hospital/surgical equipment used to be steam autoclave safely?
Because humans are really good in inventing chemicals to kill bacteria, so we can live longer and have sterile equipment. Skip again to minute 24:00 everything is explained there. They do several tests, overkilling, to make sure it is all safe.
In essence, EPA says the following about the carcinogen Ethylene Oxide:
“EPA classified ethylene oxide as a human carcinogen in December 2016. Studies of workers show that their exposures to ethylene oxide are associated with an increased risk of cancers of the white blood cells (the infection-fighting cells of the immune system). Studies also showed an increased risk of breast cancer in females.”
“Evidence in humans indicates that long-term exposure to ethylene oxide increases the risk of cancers of the white blood cells, including non-Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloma, and lymphocytic leukemia. Studies also show that long-term exposure to ethylene oxide increases the risk of breast cancer in females.”
“EPA, as well as the International Agency for Research on Cancer and the National Toxicology Program, classifies ethylene oxide as carcinogenic to humans. Evidence in humans indicates that exposure to ethylene oxide by inhalation increases the risk of lymphohematopoietic cancers (including non-Hodgkin lymphoma, myeloma, and lymphocytic leukemia) and, for females, breast cancer.
EtO is mutagenic (i.e., it can change the DNA in a cell). Children may be more susceptible to the harmful effects of mutagenic substances.”
check the YT video called - Lateral Flow Test swabs contain Ethylene Oxide
Collateral damage to save a buck
29:40 states the possibility of lingering chemicals that can irritate a patient. With many of the swabs coming from china such as Jiangsu Changfeng Medical, I don't know how much I trust the process before being sealed and shipped.
Can you explain the risk of cancer using this gas . And how companys are venting it in to communities. Why dont you breath it in
The main issue is people cutting costs by not using the right emission controls. As long as it is not *vented into communities and is regulated* it is perfectly fine.
I know it was presented two years ago, but thank you for sharing. Really nice presented and allow to less experienced people to understand the basics :) It was very helpful!

I looked up the studies myself and eto is dangerous period you are just telling us what it was used for smh you are not giving al facts about this instances you are mentioning you are only telling the part of what they used it for not all the negative effects that happened yo the areas around where these instances happened..
This is just a sales pitch. See this video for what it is.
