I think Ions aren't lasers, but particle beams, as Ions are (negatively) charged atoms.
Depending on what kind of particles you shoot, you get different effects. You can even shoot things like electrons, so entire Ions are definitely on the larger end of "ammo".
Large projectile particle beams act somewhat similar to a laser, but have a much more finite range due to the particles repelling each other.

You could also convert ions to photons which would give you a laser. There is a type of particle beam that turns to x-rays on contact to irradiate electronics and crew inside spaceships
@@hmmsus2003 Not sure about that Ion to photon conversion, but the x-ray emission you're talking about is what happens if you use electrons instead of ions. That phenomenon is called "braking radiation" or "Bremsstrahlung" and happens when electrons at partial light speed interact with whatever spaceship happens to be in their path. Not only can this result in x-radiation, but also gamma radiation if the electrons are fast enough. It won't do much damage to the hull, as electrons are so small they'll mostly just pass through, but the crew is going to have the worst AND last day of their lives.
But a ion ship is literally shapes and focuses a beam through refractory crystals. Sounds an awful lot like a laser.
I think I want to take my over-priced builds in. I got a diagonal missile boat that would be fun to try. Also, I ALWAYS thread armor.

Ion beam is not a laser. It is charged particles of matter.

Are these ships hard to control? The brawlers seemed to have trouble navigating them.
are these open to anyone to join? if so, would you provide details in the description on how to join?
also, set rules might help. i know you've talked about friendly fire being off and on, and you often talk about the always changing cost limits/ship limits, and the solution could just be rotating rulesets. it would make it much easier for people who want to join to make ships beforehand (if it is open), and it would help the people in your videos who are obviously using under-cost ships to maybe at least use up the whole budget (maybe). rotating rulesets could also help the channel grow; you could look at participation and views to judge what kinds of matches bring in the most people to play and watch.
just some ideas. thanks for putting this all together. i'd love to see cosmoteer grow and your format feels like a real diamond in the rough.

I totally agree with everything you said and would greatly appreciate it if tardi implemented those ideas.
Although I am aware of just how small of a scale tardi is working on and it is just a hobby at the end of the day.
Still love that hes doing this though. Easily my favourite cosmoteer content on yt since the game released on steam!
