Viper already better at keeping heroes alive in wc3 than in aoe2.

both grubby and viper have been learning aoe2 and wc3 pretty fast! i'm amazed at how each one has taken on the other's game head on and shown a lot of progress

WC3 has the best single player campaign of any RTS ever.
I love when WC3 delivers these hyper-late, nail-biting games. Bases mine out, heroes get high level, and the intensity ramps up because any tiny decision can determine the result of the game. Epic! This collab has been super entertaining
Most intense gameplay ive seen in a while not gonna lie. Also Grubby explains it very well imo and its super fun!
For the last 5ish minutes he was playing DOTA
I played this for a good 200 or so hours in the early 2000s (and 1,000+ hours of WC1 and 2) but I still have no idea what I'm looking at.
After they lost Viper's base they basically had to do asymmetrical warfare on their opponents, with small hit and runs and ambushes aimed at picking off small groups of enemy units while avoiding losses. To this effect they had to maximize their use of mass teleport. Meanwhile the enemy was actively searching for them to destroy them, while long distance mining gold in order to establish a new base, have more army, heroes and items. They were able to win out despite being human+undead which isn't the strongest combo imho
This just made me wish shared unit control was a thing in AoE2, it'd be hilarious.

You should do the campaigns yes. Firstly, cause they are awesome; secondly you will come out of them a much better player, guaranteed.
Probably some Frozen Throne campaigns (like the one where you play as Naga) are not needed. But the undead one is nice and useful

The large fights are really overwhelming. What is going on at 21:30 that makes them not take the fight and run VS whats happening at 23:25 that makes them confident enough to take the fight?

@@Klautsche It's not the colours it the health bars and the abilities and the unusual micro styles. Compared to other RTS like Starcraft II, AOE II, Company of Heroes, AOM it's very confusing and hard to comprehend the situation and unit types. Not the most streamable/watchable game.
This was awesome!
Never played competitive WC3 myself (I did play hundreds of hours of AoE2 on voobly & DE), but the campaigns are absolutely beautiful and totally worth playing at least once in your life.

Right at the Start, Grubby stating this map wasnt in SC2 is wrong - it was in the early seasons :)
So I don't understand most of whats happening here but why didn't Viper build a mining camp on one of the other spots instead of long distance mining?

I played Reign of Chaos long time ago and just a few of frozen throne, because I changed to dota. I had my Lich icon on RoC and 70% winrate. I lost my cd-keys and I cant remember my password if I think to back. Good times.

95% of the time I have no clue whats going on... But it seems really counterintuitive to not get Viper a second base and thus back to 50 upkeep. Isn't his army always going to be inferior after the fight that brings him down in upkeep without rebuilding (maybe a convoluted way of saying, Grubby give Viper a second base)?

Tch tch, both opponents didn't gg. I've played WC3 campaign a long time ago but never saw ladder so I have no idea what's going on either. It's interesting that one player can't carry as hard in this game like when Viper 1v2ed in AoE2.
Seems to be mainly due to how producing workers & units constantly isn't what constitutes macro in this game - being active on the map with your army and farming creeps + sniping heroes is. And because both sides have smallish armies, knowing what unit to focus in a fight is what makes or breaks an engagement. Every time I saw Viper take an engagement, I had no idea what he should have been attacking. Maybe Grubby should have told Viper what to focus on in the early engagements. Or maybe the decision making for that is too dynamic to be effective back then. All in all, the engagements reminds me very much of MoBA games due to how important it is to know what unit to attack/cast abilities on.
how to arrange spells and attack command like him so spells are QWER and not ZXCV?

yeah absolutely try out the campaign, fights are not very intuitive and difficult to read, campaign introduces concepts at a good rate
