I think she is absolutely marvelous‼... in every aspect....except one. Forgive me for being shallow ( I admit it) But I cannot watch when she has her hair hanging down over her eye. It's a pet peeve of mine while watching ANYONE on screen/TV. It's just so very distracting! Sorry Lisa! 🤷♀😥 But I DO look forward to signing up after I get my 1st keyboard. I think the enthusiasm & teaching technique will surely overshadow my admittedly superficial annoyance.
Oh, Lisa, you're adorable. "We're going to the math portion of the lesson, I apologize because I hate math." Cutest moment ever. You're such a wonderful teacher. You make learning fun, and I think that's what makes this so enjoyable.
Greetings from Singapore! Why is it that I understood everything you said in your lessons? Because you explain them so well and demonstrated clearly! I learn by my eyes and ears but I can barely read notes. So I totally enjoy your videos. Big thanks and keep it up!
Oh Lisa! What an inspiring lesson, I never could get the hang of 'fills', didn't understand what you should do at all but you've just lifted the scales (OK, pun intended!) from my eyes. Thank you so much! I was taught for years as youngster to play and read classical music and because I can sightread I turn my hand to all sorts but the directions of other music is often a puzzle... took me ages to come to terms with 'swing' for example, I still don't really get why it's not written with a dotted rhythm if that's what's required 😂 but as a consequence of that thorough grounding I cannot ad-lib at all. Thank goodness you're encouraging this old dog new tricks and to get my head out of the music and just play... Oh and thanks for the belly laughs too 😄🤣😁🎶
I am pretty much a beginner on piano, although I play guitar and understand music theory, but your lesson are a tremendous help in making learning piano fun, I wish you were near where I live in New Jersey, I would definitely be your student, please keep these great lessons coming, thank you!
I already catched the feeling..more practice will definitely fill up more ❤️💯 Thanks Mam for this beautiful lesson ✨ May god bless you..StaySafe StayHealthy
Thank you Lisa. I'm 70 and in only my third year of learning the piano and need some easy wins while trying to build my spacial awareness of the keyboard. I have a daughter called Lisa who is always laughing with (or at) me, and it is lovely seeing your personality bubble out in these videos.
An love this lesson and excited to try it in my playing. So you have some good suggestions for keybaordists in a praise and worship band at church? I am very comfortable with chording and want to take my playing further.
Thank you so much. Question - when inverting the cords do the runs still used the Sus2 or could you just play the note under the 2nd finger in the inverted form?
Riffs are usually patterns that are built according to the note degrees relative to a chord. So if you play an inverted chord, that would actually be another pattern that you should practice. It's a good practice because once they become natural you can play each individually, or alternate them to get a longer riff when needed. Anyway, if the riff is about playing the sus2 of the chord, then it shouldn't change just because you fingers have changed their position on the keyboard. As said you should then readapt your fingering, or build a new pattern to practice individually.
An amazing lesson as always… something I’ve been searching for ages. Wow ! Simply wow. I can’t wait to try it out. Thank you Lisa, you are a fantastic teacher. I have a question, so only notes of the natural minor would work ? Not melodic? Or is it only for this song ? or is it just safer to always use the natural ? Another question, what course would have more lessons like that… improvising from a cheat sheet, or playing accompaniment.
whether its a natural or harmonic minor would be specific to the song. the best course to check out on pianote would be the "riffs and fills" pack we have available!
I just can't 'Cake it," anymore!! Man...Lisa, yet another "Sweet Lesson!" Hehe!! Seriously thank you!! I'll be reaching out in a few months when I release my first song on Spot to let you know because your lessons and technique have helped me become a better piano player almost instantaneously as I've been learning how to produce in LogicProX ;) Keep spreading the Love and Joy of Jesus' delight in music with everyone!! God Bless you and your family and continued success in Music; teaching and performing! Amen!
Always amazing. Small request...can we have Lisa play the practice song at the end of the video in its entirety? We never get to hear her PLAY-play, if you know what I mean
I think this was a very good, very practical lesson. A couple of additional ideas(maybe for the next video) would be to arpeggiate the chord at the end of a line, use the sub dominant chord (like Elton John), and use a slip note on the 2nd inversion of a chord (like Floyd Cramer, Norah Jones, etc).
I enjoyed your video lesson & love this song 👏😁. However I do not sing so I need to play melody on right hand. Not being very creative (yet….) I am interested in learning how to play fills/riffs on either hand, while playing melody. Any thoughts, ideas, advice? Thank you!
And this is why you need to use the correct fingers to play basic chords. I used to use my index finger (2) far too much, but you should use 1,3,5 whenever you can otherwise you won't be able to play these lovely fills. Thanks Lisa!
Take a break! It might sound counter-intuitive but even a few days break can give your brain a chance to recharge and get excited about playing again. dont go much longer than that tho our you might risk losing some hard earned skill! have you been playing any songs lately? Maybe change up your regular practice routine and learn a nice simple 4-chord song!
Does it matter if the Fill/riff clashes with the notes of the singer, by creating a chord that does not exist, or can we argue that it's creating SUS chords? e.g. if the singer is on C and the fill is on D creating a CD which is not a third or not part of a chord (third chords)... can we argue that the accompaniment and the singer are creating a SuS chord? Is it acceptable or should it be avoided?
Thank you so much for these lessons and sharing your passion with the rest of us! I’m happy with my progress for being 6-7 months in to this lifetime hobby and you are my main source for information/inspiration!
I'm loving your lessons! Thanks so much for sharing! I can't find the music download though. Where do I go to do that? I read the info below and don't see "name of song chord chart" anywhere. Thanks again!
