Labour wins massive majority - but is this a loveless landslide?

- Promising to be a force for good and to restore trust in politics - Sir Keir Starmer has hit the ground running on his first day in office naming his new Cabinet - and declaring that the work of change would begin immediately.
(Subscribe: bit.ly/C4_News_Subscribe)
With just one seat left to declare, Labour can boast a majority of 176 MPs. While the Conservatives are down to a third of their previous total. It was a record night for the Liberal Democrats, as they become the third largest party in Westminster. While the SNP suffered huge losses.

Labour did not win.. the Tories lost.

Age old adage in politics. The opposition don’t win elections, the government lose them. This is a perfect case in point.

Everyone knows it.
But Labour did win, they got the most votes
neither the tories or labour wanted to move to proportional representation from FPTP because it would strip them of some of their power so it doesn't happen, last time FPTP worked for the Tories, this time it absolutely fucked them
So true. If our vote made a difference we wouldn't have one.
yep first past the post only favours the top two parties everyone else is almost wasting time, we need real change on how we vote in the UK as its a bit a scam system forcing mostly a two party state, but for 40 years both labour and conservitive have do very little to benifit most people and just spend a lot of time blaming past governments as to why they could do half the stuff they promised.
Correct. Unless the system is changed this will keep happening. Chances are in 5 years time we will have a Tory landslide again.
@@arranmc182 PR is a dead duck system putting a dozen opposite parties into power ,that have no interest into making a working government,,,France ,,italy ,,Netherlands,Greece ,even Germany ,saddled with lame duck governments(at different times) with no mandate or abillity to bring a viable policy direction and drive to their cabinet or government .. Getting 64% of the seats on 34% of the votes is just utterly bonkers. I like that the Tories were obliterated, but this electoral system of yours is just ridiculous. It's as far as you can get from democracy this side of Belarus.
Clearly not everybody’s vote is equal! How can a party get a million more votes than a rival and only get 4 seats while the party with a million less votes gets 60 plus seats ???
Very odd notion of Democracy?
It’s how the voting system works. Each person is not voting together for the government. Each persons vote is counted equally… for the constitutional seat they are voting for.
🤷🏻♂️
Is it broken? Yes. But not because votes are not counted equally. It’s broken because the FPTP electoral system is fundamentally flawed.
It needs to change. It never will.
I agree but the system is designed to produce a clear cut result and quickly too and it does that.
@@jontalbot1 Yes, as clear cut as a party winning only 1 third of the votes wins all? So 2 thirds of voters disenfranchised.

Well put.
God what a depressing outlook. Cheer up. Things actually stand a chance to improve. Let them walk before you scream about how they've failed already.
And you lot complain about the MSM being all doom and gloom...🙄
@@internetoldie you mean the clowns that wanted more lockdowns and money to keep people off work thay caused all the inflation? I'll not take the blind optimistic view when I know this shower of shine are the same as the last.
So true
The old guy not having a clue what year it is, who his new MP is and where he is sums up a typical reform voter.
They have no mandate. This was a bad day for democracy.
The 2nd or 3rd biggest majority ever and winning the popular vote by several million isn’t a mandate??
Maybe just a bad day for rich cnuts who exploit hedge funds and share holdings?
They have a mandate Sunak and Liz Truss all didn’t have a man date

As with landslides people will be hurt and some won't make it out alive.
Better watch our backsides then, eh?
What happens? Taxes go up, spending goes out of control, the working class get punished and the lazy rewarded…and millions land on the shores by boat and will be given what you and I will not be.

Labours don’t fucking screw this moment up. And don’t waste time and pass legislation that would and will benefit UK.
What momentum? Less people voted for them than last time. Only a small group of freaks actually like them, and now they're going to immediately proceed to screw up everything they touch.
They haven't changed since Blair and brown. Waste of time. They will bring us into war again.
I got a bridge to sell you.
What momentum? They won by default, pretty much everyone hates them.
We are doomed, down the toilet we go.
