This has actually brought me to tears. Such a beautiful, passionate performance. I'm hooked on the original, but this version breaks it down to a rawness that just draws you in to the wonderful vocal performance. Bravo sir.
I don't usually like Cure covers where the singer tries to sound like the Cure. But this piano ballad version takes it to another level. When a song is so good that Adele could make a hit out of it, you just know the writer/composer is a genius and a talent. And that would be Robert Smith. If he decides to sing no more, I hope he writes music and lyrics for others to share.
Original version sounds artificial beside yours. The core of the song is here and nowhere else. Robert Smith should have opened the album (piano-singing), a few effects, and left each instrument perform one after the other. In this way, instead of making a Plainsong-bis (with this long instrumental intro), the song would’ve ended up on a strong note (tutti), in response to intimate emerging. My deepest respect, Mr. Charlie Barnes. It's like crystal. Even the hard-hearted can be moved to tears.
Blah blah blah... Robert Smith is Robert Smith, end of story. This version is very nice and all, but if you listen closely, the vocals here are kind of generic...
@@villavide Robert Smith is Robert Smith ? What the hell ! I thought he was Sean Penn in "This Must Be the Place" or Edward Scissorhands. Joking aside (unless, of course, you want to erect a statue of), do you really need to hold of the opportunity to showcase his talent, his career ? I'm just talking about "Alone", the song's arrangement, the final mix. And if the artist's research is based on work that aims to rid himself of automatic reactions in order to get to essence, in a word, if Robert Smith had sought to avoid the trap of déjà vu, "Alone" would have maybe gained in depth and in authenticity. Obviously, this is only my little opinion.
The cool thing is that Bob will do an instrumental version in a few years. I wouldn't change a thing about the original version, but i do believe this dude has a lovely voice. It's a lot of fun to play songs from our favorite artists.
Well done man! And congrats Robert posted you on his Twitter, quite the achievement 👏

Amazing stuff! What pedals are using - loving the ambient sounds.
It's a disintegration era sound but, you added some really modern sensibilities to it. It's really beautiful.
