  • At this challenging time, you can help us open a door of opportunity that lasts a lifetime. Your gift this Christmas will enable us to support choirs all year round and continue sharing this extraordinary musical heritage with people of all ages and backgrounds: cathedralmusic...
It’s day 9 of our tour of the UK, and our first Advent Calendar visit to a college choir. Today we’re at the magnificent New College, Oxford. When William of Wykeham founded his ‘New’ College in 1379, a choral foundation was at its heart, and daily chapel services have been a central part of college life ever since.
Today the choir is directed by Robert Quinney, and consists of 16 boy choristers and 14 clerks. New College is a choir of ‘firsts’: the pattern set by New College Choir in the 1380s was later adopted by other choral foundations, and may be seen as the prototype for all choirs of its kind, and more recently they were also the first choral foundation to establish their own recording label!
The choir sings seven services a week during term time, some of which are live-streamed on their RUclips channel.
Today they perform Tomorrow will be my dancing day for us, arranged by their Director Robert Quinney.

A beautiful arrangement, which will, I am sure, become more widely known. I have to admit that my favourite setting of these words is that by John Gardner, but I enjoyed this greatly.

Gorgeous. This carol deserves to be far more popular than it is.
