I was always under the impression that Hindu Pushups were different to Dive Bomber Pushups. Dive Bombers reverse the motion, but Hindu Pushups don't. You come all the way through on Hindu Pushups and then bring the hips up and back to the start position. So they're similar, but definitely not the same.
Thank you. I always look forward to regressions. Even the pike position is difficult for me. It's very encouraging to see someone who can do the entire exercise.
Love dive bombers. I've also heard them referred to as judo pushups. Big fan of Matt Furey going back a while. Super slow 20 sec reps works for me. Regular feature of my personal fitness routine in Afghan and Iraq. Love your channel.
Great work, nice video.. just let me please share my experience as well since I learnt it directly from wrestling Guru in Akhara. 1- Please point your elbows backward a bit more instead of outward. 2- The lower back should be flat else you will develop pain in long run. 3- It also helps in opening up the hip Flexors, glute and hamstring flexibility, it gives a nice stretch to calves and strengthen Achilles tendons.
Great exercise, I do these as part of the P90X chest and back routine. I didn't like them at first but I have gotten used to doing them. Thanks for this variation.
One thing you may have overlooked in the regressions (or progressions) is a straight cobra to d. dog back to a cobra with no swoops. That was how I started them years ago which is the movement in the sun salutation. Just adding...
I like doing my divebomber push ups with yoga blocks (also known as deficit divebomber pushups), I superset my divebomber push ups with toe squats using emom schemed workout. I also incorporate assisted rope climbing in this emom super/tri set workout.
I am 59 and have been doing these for years as part of my morning wake up routine….never known what they are called, thought it is a yoga movement… great exercise 👍🏻
@@hhhhhhh_005 They are part of my 10 minute morning routine for mobility and core and do them for 1 minute (probably do 10-12 reps). My main muscle building routines are outside of this, 2 x upper body and 2 x lower body days with cardio in between.
Hi Ryan, Your videos really excellent and highly informative. Great efforts keep continuing. 👌 I have couple of queries, 1. Generally during torso twisting excercises like Seated Torso Twist (using hollow bar/ stick), Standing bent over torso twist... Most are performing bringing the twist to rest in center (straight) then again twisting to other side then bringing back to centre. Infact, in Arnold's book of "Encyclopaedia of modern Bodybuilding" he too suggesting the same. If you observe, lot of people twist vigorously left and right saying it will burn the belly fat fast, is that a right statement? But what Arnold say is, doing the twist slowly by bringing each side to center will build the obliques & intercoastal muscles. Which is right? Or Both are right? 2. It means for torso twist we need to being the rotation in rest to center then move to other side? For example "Russian Twist" also includes torso twist. So in this also we need to break in the center then twist to other side, come back to center and repeat? Kindly clarify. Thanks!
Hi Vijay. It’s better to pause briefly in the center to “reset” before twisting to the other side. This will make sure the movement is symmetrical. If you don’t pause, there’s a higher chance of asymmetry in the movement which can create muscular imbalances. I use a brief pause at the center with Russian twists, bicycle crunches, twisting lunges and any other twisting exercises. Hope that helps!
@@MinusTheGym Thanks a lot Ryan. This helps! ❤️👍 Also can you help me on the below clarifications too please? Sorry to bother you much (you are the right knowledgeable person of many I trust). For abdominal excercises which is best, - Regular abdominal floor excercises? or - Dip bar abdominal exercises? or - Ab. wheel rollout? or - All the above? Personally what would you recommend? I tried different abdominal floor excercises but nothing hitting the abdomen much (I mean, after abdomen excercises we will feel the burning pain for 24 Hrs right? That I'm not feeling. Feeling blunt). Why so? As far I'm trying to maintain the form in each excercises but still not getting satisfaction. So asking the above. Will abdominal excercises in parallel bars (dip bars) will be promising? Also, will Ab. Wheel rollouts alone is enough to target all the parts of Rectus abdominis & core? (Tightening the core, doing a pelvic posterior tilt, keeping the arms straight, leaning forward, rolling out with hunch back and while retracting back allowing the abs to retract without using the hip flexors, doing the rollout on side bends too for obliques). Which one will be most effective? Floor? dip bar? ab. wheel? Please advise. Thanks!
There is a whole family of Dand variations. Conditioning, strength, and mobility in one. Also Sapates (Hindu Burpees) are awesome. See vids. But what I wanted to mention is the lats should be very much engaged in the cobra position, because you should be using them to pull the shoulders down and into their sockets as you lift the chest. Truely full body. Research The Great Gama, Hindu wrestlers, Karl Gotch, and get Matt Fureys book Combat Conditioning. ruclips.net/video/wHhdJGHTfi0/видео.htmlsi=o6AW5oHPQOCX0neD ruclips.net/user/shortsW0z4Rh2Nnzk?si=whK50jGM3rKL4zhe
I've wondered ever since Bioneer covered them, but _do_ these provide adequate stimulation for the back muscles? Like if you were devoid of equipment could hindu pushups and squats give you a total body workout in a pinch?
Yeah, I’d say Hindu push ups and squats would be a great combo for a total body workout in a pinch. Maybe add some reverse table tops in there too if you want to emphasize the posterior a little more 👌
If you search the "hindu pushups" where the yogis and indians do it, after the "swoop down" movement, you raise the pelvis directly to a downward dog and not swooping back with the same path as when you were swooping down
Okay so this one works the entire upper body? I was at work so I didn't see the full video. Do you have one that works the entire lower body and then I can make a two exercise workout routine?
We called them cobra push ups. It was part of traditional Chinese martial arts training. A few things came to China from India in the system. . We had a Chinese form that was n. amed after Bodhi Dharma
Thanks for jogging the memory! lol I used to do these. Going back to it. Thanks!!!!
You bet! 👍 Such a great exercise
That is a section of a traditional sun salutation
Yes, you are right!
That's because yoga evolved from wrestling training.

You are correct. The Hindu push-up returns directly to the down dog position. I learned this from a Hindu priest.

I noticed his back is arched incorrectly, it's due to a lack of hamstring flexibility
He would find it easier with his feet spaced more widely apart

Yes! I should make a separate video on that. It’s such a great practice and a wonderful way to start the day.
Yes it's an interesting question. What came first? Yoga or Hindu Wrestlers exercises? Or did they evolve simultaneously?

Great exercise, but my shoulders have never liked them. Have had muscle pulls pretty quickly each time I've tried to integrate them over the years.
That looks familiar. We called them “stofzuigers” (Dutch for vacuum cleaners) in the 60’s during Judo training.
It is pronounced as "dawned" or "dawn". It was Bruce Lee approved. The wrestling champion (undefeated) Gama used to do it 5000 times daily.
From India , I daily do this
How many reps & sets ?
And what changes you felt doing this ?
