Me and 3 of my friends went go see this in theatres. We were in 7th grade at the time, and my friends dad bought us all tickets and then he left us there to watch it. There was only 3 other people in the theatre who left after about 15 mins. It was the funniest thing in the world to us. We pretty much laughed / cried the entire time. After that we went back home and played Diablo 2 all night. Good times!
This is a great interview from two notoriously sarcastic and comedically combative figures; Conan had them laughing and acting like writers in a writing room, all while asking interesting and engaging questions. Pure gold.
True story: My brother Greg (who passed away this year) was one of the main puppeteers on this film. (I think he did Hans Brix, IIRC). He told me about how they came up with the puppet fight scenes where the marionettes would just flail absurdly. Also he confirmed that Stone and Parker hated how long it took to film the puppet scenes, as they were used to doing the quickly edited South Park animation, whereas filming marionette work took ages.
Sorry to hear about your brother, my condolences. The funniest thing to me about the "Hans Brix" is that they are clearly mocking Hans Blix, a real person who in decades past was well known for being the guy who would go investigate nuclear disasters and weapons at the highest level. I know it's a cheap joke but he's called Hans Brix because Kim Jong-Il couldn't pronounce Blix.
My favorite story about this film was how it started as originally wanting it to be a shot-for-shot copy of The Day After Tomorrow with puppets and released the day before. The heavy score, everything. They didn't find a studio to go along so they changed it to the Team America/Thunderbirds story.
@@rockerseven that was just a joke for this segment. The DAT script got leaked and they thought there's no way they actually go through with such a campy setting for a serious movie. Like imagine DAT with puppets. It's right up their alley.
They would hit it off so well! They are all geniuses who play the dumb man pretending to be a smart man. You know they would fit together because having a different dog in each cut of a camera would be the most Conan thing to do. I just hear him going “you know these are different dogs right?”
I think they contemplated it, but the first movie was too hard to make. I mean, we only saw the finished product while they experienced the long process of multiple retakes when things didn't work.
If you go long enough without watching the opening will still fool you sometimes. This is one of those movies that was cult classic the day hit theatres. As an American this is peak comedy.
I know, it's too bad they've pretty much sworn they never will because making TeamAmerica almost killed them. I also wish Matt and Trey didn't hate BASEketball because I love that movie and would love to see a sequel
OMG OMG OMG! I have watched this video on RUclips with G SMOKE 🐐🚬0⃣3⃣😜🖕 and Black Peter Griffin and it was awesome! I love Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Conan O'Brien! My favorite parts are Kimg Jong-il, the Secret America World Police scene and the mention of Secret America World Police! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
So, if you are a connoisseur of cinematic vomit scenes, there's the Exorcist and then there is everything else. The vomiting puppet scene in Team America is really, the gift that keeps on barfing.
Meet the Feebles directed by Peter Jackson was a filthy puppet movie and considering the time it was made, the raw and disturbing content seems more over the top.
At the end when he said "matt stone and tray parker, thank you for being here..." I was really confused. I thought for sure at least one of them was daniel radcliff
Yeah velma is crap its quite literally a copy paste of things that came out 20 years before. Crazy how this interview reminds me of how crap Steven universe/adventure time and velma are
It does suck that Moore decided to make his documentaries more "impactful" by making stuff up (e.g. that South-Park-esque animation in Bowling for Columbine wrongly implies the NRA was founded by the KKK.) But the irony is that so many voices condemning Moore back then were simultaneously cheerleading for the Iraq War based on manipulations of the truth far more devastating than anything Moore could accomplish.
Yeah. Guns are pretty cool. I’m glad we listen to the makers of South Park and not Michael Moore on this topic! It’s really worked out well I think for everyone

Damn those are good memories
Ah diablo 2. Those were the days
The symmetry between this story and bigger longer uncut with asses of fire is unreal 😂 the absolute dream

I watched Team America on the 4th of July this year (2023) and I swear it gets funnier every time. One of the most hilarious movies I've ever seen.
We always watch it on 4th of July
AMERICA! FUCK YEAH!
Damnit Gary!
Every 4th of July! With steaks, hot dogs, whiskey, and explosions! I promise, I will never die.
I PROMISE I WILL NEVER DIE!
“But co-nan, you watched our movie, we laughed together.” 😂😂

I heard that they wanted to do a shot for shot remake of Armageddon.
Of course, Trey and Matt aren't always serious lol

Matt Berry reading Stone’s memo to the mpaa is a must in my opinion.
Who the hell is Matt Berry?

Would love to see both of them on the podcast they had a good chemistry

These guys work so hard and are so smart. Every South Park episode is great. Just everything they do is great.

Get Matt and Trey on the podcast!

One of my favorite matt and trey interviews!
I have had this on VHS and DVD back before I joined the Army in 2005. I watched in Iraq all the time. All-time great comedy
I have a very vague memory of watching this movie years ago. I thought it was a fever dream.
both of their shoes are dirty af. I love it.
They need to do a team America prequel: Iran Contra - the 80s would be great
One of the funniest movies ever made
Matt and Trey are Genius 😍 Congratulations 😊
Saw this at 14 or 15 in theaters with my 3 older brothers. Loudest laughter I've ever heard in a theater!
Hard to believe that this interview is 20 years old
Conan throwing some black metal vocals 6:12
Creative people are so strange, almost always have a child like demeanor
It's because they're mentally ill, they mire themselves in silliness to dull the edges
Finally this clip in HD!
My dad hated this movie, and that was a point in our relationship I realized I'll never be close to the man 😂.
My dad owns it on DVD and we quote it regularly 😂
THESE GUYS ARE SO TALENTED
I saw the preview for this movie when it came out and I was never more motivated in my life to see something in the theater.
Conan has obviously never seen "Meet the Feebles" if he thinks "Team America World Police" is the filthiest puppet movie ever.
I was going to say this. Props.
I saw Meet the Feebles and I don't remember a puppet shitting in another puppet's face.
Two geniuses
There are 2 movies that I have laughed hard from the beginning to the end. And Team America World Police is one of them. It's GENIUS !

We need a goddamn sequel to Team America: World Police

They saved the shit out of Paris
Also the first guest Matt & Trey didn't get bumped for was Seth Meyers 🤣
Not old enough to consider anything before 1990. Having established that: this and hangover 1/funniest movies I've seen.
I can't believe this film is almost 20 years old lol
I laughed so hard at the movies at that scene lol
Matt and Trey are just an iconic duo. like Mario and Luigi, or Scooby and Shaggy
Never forget guys: there are THREE types of people!
"But you loved our movie, Conan. We watched it together, don't you remember?"
4:03 I’m still surprised by the “we strongly believe in guns” comment. Didn’t think they were gun people.
I think they were just trolling Moore.
When Trey Parker says they sent kim jung il a print of the movie you can tell he's a million percent seriously. I love all three of these guys.
All I heard was the voice of the owner of City Wok.
Matt and Trey are notorious for recycling voices. They probably have less than a dozen different voices between them.
i love how they just can't resist any opportunity to dig at people they don't like in the industry
They also produce a Canadian show, 'Kenny vs Spenny'
Imagine a sequel 🇺🇸
I think we should still get one that'd be..... amazing.
