    The one and only reason some seniors drink heavily is strictly boredom, you're retired with very little to do and alcohol helps pass the time - period! To help cut down on daily drinking - you have to stay active and always eat 3 meals a day. You need to take your mind off of having a drink, it's just a bad habit, like smoking. Been there done that.

    • @sweebeyh4327
      @sweebeyh4327 2 месяца назад +1

      It’s the alcohol that is causing the boredom because you have no energy or clarity to get up and do something. It’s not a habit it’s addiction.

    To the readers in the comment section. Instead of saying alcoholism or alcoholic because most if not all drinkers are in denial. Better to say that they have a relationship with alcohol. My Dad for 65 years has a relationship with alcohol and not his family. Alcohol gets all his spare time and money. I hope people who drink read this and try and work it out. What's more important: your relationship with your family or your beer. Unfortunately there's no room for both because alcohol is very seductive and wants all of you.
    I'm an ex drinker. I became an ex drinker with my boyfriend. We both stopped otherwise our relationship was heading for a break up. 12 years. Life isn't rainbows and roses but it's real and we have clear heads together. Life certainly isn't boring. We've lived in two different countries, we've backpacked around many countries, travelled with a campervan, leant to scuba dive and made more adventures and sometimes just resting and relaxing. Our life is ordinary but extraordinary because we don’t drink alcohol. We were alcohol bores. Most people including me when drinking talk crap, and we don't really remember it but some poor bugger had to listen to it 🤣 sorry!

      Alcoholic is a derogatory term puting the blame or responsibility somehow on the user and not the addictive poison consumed...Unless the person is alchchol dependent. The term is called alchahol use disorder which is a spectrum that anybody who drinks any ammount or frequency is on..

    Great&important work. Alcohol for my generation (5/31/64) is like cigarettes were for the postwar generation. Our folks were told cigarettes were good for them, that cigarettes relieve stress. While no one was suggesting that drinking is good for you, there was a cigarette-like blindness to its devastating consequences. My best friend from 7thgrade was decapitated by a drunk driver. The first time I saw Edvard Munch's Scream, it reminded me of my friend's mother, her face twisted into a rictus of grief as she followed her son's casket to the altar. I wanted to kill myself that day, the grief was so intense. Instead, my uncle handed me a tumbler of Irish whiskey. I always remember that day, the day I was taught by my so-called elders that adults deal with pain by drinking, even though it is the drinking both amplifying and causing the pain. But even worse than the physical death of a close friend is the death of a friend who is still alive. There is no psychological affliction more torturous than remorse. Remorse haunts your very sleep. His name is Freddy, Freddy Krueger, and you don't want that psychopath to even know what you look like.
    Stay healthy, stay sober, stay focused, in the moment. It's the best recommendation your sommelier (me) will ever offer.

    I’m so thrilled I found your channel! I’m a big RUclipsr. I always joke with my family and tell them I went to the RUclips University because I’ve learned so much on this platform. Since the pandemic, we’ve had a situation developing with my elderly mother who is 84. The drinking has escalated. My sister, my brother-in-law and myself have to buckle down and figure out how to address this situation because I believe she’s on a self-destructive path. We are all very apprehensive about it. Long story short ….we’re very concerned. I just subscribed to your channel and I look forward to delving into your material. Thank you!

    Great Channel:
    Because you use US measures for safe limits in Uk and Europe is:
    It's recommended to drink no more than 14 units of alcohol a week, spread across 3 days or more. That's around 6 medium (175ml) glasses of wine, or 6 pints of 4% beer. There's no completely safe level of drinking, but sticking within these guidelines lowers your risk of harming your health.

    You’re video popped up in my you tube probably bc I’m newly (50 days) sober and have been searching videos. But I have to tell you, you did not even come close to the answer of why older people drink more. I can tell you… it’s bc our body’s hurt. Chronically. Our hormones are vanishing, our skin is drying, we don’t get the dopamine hits young people get regularly. We are coming closer to end of life . Aging can be embraced… but in reality that is very difficult. And NO ONE that is not over the age of 65 can relate. That’s just the truth. No I’m not depressed. A lot of it is and how you think about it but it’s hard to overcome this physical part.

Beats lying in your own fowled diapers,pushing a wheeled crate if your up to it, and entering other peoples rooms because you have N.F.I. as to where you are!…so so sad…what a way to end up.

Sugar blood test best in years, I have given up Statins after 22 years to the chagrin of my Doctor; as after getting heart inflammation after my first coerced 💉mRNA the greatest assault on my heart ever, I don’t trust Doctors any more to interested is writing Big Pharma scripts than preventive advice cut back on carbs and sugar. We were all at the fair in town listening to a band and she was drinking, i just said that she drinks a lot , which is the truth. She scouled at me. I guess i should of stood up for her and said, no she looks young. I felt so bad after i said that. She took it as an insult. Mind you we were closer to our 40s. So we are pretty old. I hope she knows i was just joking and didn't mean to hurt her feelings. But yes, my skin is beautiful for my age because im not a drinker and i have an amazing diet.

      Precisely. Leaving the question open as what is too much drinking for a moment. What pleasures are left to one in old age? Are the few extra months of life on the end worth living like an ascetic? I think not. Problem with all these advice videos is the conflation between “problem drinking” and “normal” drinking. Soon as I hear folk talk about hang overs and headaches and such, I agree with them-knock it off. But then the ones who have a couple of drinks and watch the news or have dinner begin to chime in promoting abstinence. To that effect, I actually stopped drinking as a test of my “addiction”. I figured, you folk are so adamant, perhaps I’m fooling myself-addicts do that I’m told. Over a month now and no discernible effect. No cravings, no real benefit either, except I may have gained a few pounds. (?) Do what works best for you. If you’re old like I am, enjoy what life is left to you. Good luck.

I went cold turkey successfully between 2009 and 2019 but unfortunately gradually lapsed and then totally relapsed in 21/22. Trying very hard to moderate from a daily bottle of JD or Vodka to a 4 pack of 4% Bundaberg lemon squash of late. God damn biggest battle I’ve ever encountered in my entire life! Yes I’ve tried AA to no avail 👎🏼 I’ll close there. That’s my story in a nutshell. Any comments more than welcome 🙏
