Alaska Dip Netting - Sockeye Salmon Catch, Cook, and Preserve

- Опубликовано: 5 июл 2024
- We tried our luck at dip netting for sockeye salmon this year! News was the Kasilof was running good opening day so we quick packed up the truck and drove south. You must be an Alaskan resident to dip net so this was our first opportunity.
This gives us a chance to quickly fill the freezer with great quality food. We did not hit our limit this trip but still ended up with lots of food for us all.

Nice work! And so much fun dipnetting those salmon! Some suggestions from a fellow Alaskan…gill fish as soon as you bring them in to bleed them out, fillet fish down both sides without gutting or beheading which is quicker, much easier & less bloody. Use a grippy mat under salmon when filleting so they won’t slip around.
Rowan is so adorable. I'm glad you guys got all that salmon.❤
Your baby is sooooo beautiful!!!!!!! What a precious gift!
You little girl looks very sweet! She even gave me a real nice friendly smile! Enjoy her, the little ones are precious!
Rowan is adorable and growing fast💕. It’s good to get food in the freezer!
That is a huge haul, you saved so much money. Nice job preserving all of it. I love the little smile from Rowan. :)
Nice job u guys thats alot of meat for the future!! Baby n dad sleeping in the chair was priceless ❤
Can we have your recipe for your marinade please. Just loved Rowan on daddy’s lap and she appears to be so good for you. What a great couple of days away great salmon haul.
This is the original recipe we very loosely followed.
• 1.5 lbs salmon (skinless and bones removed)
• 3 tbsp honey
• 2 tbsp olive oil
• 1 tbsp tbsp apple cider vinegar
• 1/4 cup aminos or soy sauce
• 2 cloves garlic minced
• 1 tbsp grated ginger
• 1/4 tsp salt
• 1/4 tsp pepper
• 2 tbsp chopped scallions
• 1 tsp white sesame seeds
Great success with the fishing. Cody and the baby look dead tired napping together.
You’re living the dream Kids! Rowan will be so grounded being raised by your awesome choice! ❤️ from Texas!
Loved that you took us in your adventure. Rowan seems to be loving everything she sees. You guys did amazing. 🎉❤. A tent would have been nice for sure. Loved daddy and Rowan crashing in the chair
You have to take time for fun and food stocking. Great shot of dad and baby sleeping. Can't wait till the next video
Some beautiful fillets! I saw a trick that works great..when pulling the bones, drape the fillet over a upside down bowl.. the fine bones are easier to find and pull
Baby Rowan is adorable. So glad for your huge haul! Congratulations…I can’t tell how excited you are over the salmon.
Anxiously awaiting another video. Love your channel and so glad I came across it
Nice job fishing. Fill the freezer👍. Good job guys. The little one is getting so big. Precious. Take care✌️🇺🇸❤️❤️❤️

That was my own lil intro. Now on with the video🥰
Watched, and wowie that was fun. Can't do all that myself anymore, so I love my youtube adventures. Thank you Cody, Lori, Rowan and Irie🌻🐝
Enjoy all your videos. ❤
Awesome!! Our 1 year is just after dip netting so we have to wait until next year for our first time. But it's fun to watch you two.
Do you have to be an Alaskan resident to dip net?
PS: love your channel
@@Jeremy_936 yeah for a full year. For us, that's August 9th.
You have done really well. Great first start. Lots of work but you have food for the future.
Use pressure cooker. You'll be able to soft fish bones and increase eatable stuff outcome. Extra calcium good for human bones as well.
Next time hon, watch a few youtube videos on fileting, but keep your bones with meat and take a spoon and scrape off meat, use it for salmon patties, but of course it does make good dog food for the puppy. Just a way of giving you more meat. My sister boils meat off and uses it for salmon chowder. You guys did awesome!
Great job! Rowan is just precious. Love her little bug net tent. Thanks for sharing
Very nice of you too share, and a good haul! Rowan is so very adorable! See you in the next video.
What a bunch of good eating for the future. You guys are doing great.

That trip worked out great. The fishing is often not as productive as what you experienced. Good job. Don’t stress about “ limits”. That’s a lot of fish you harvested.

Great salmon haul for lots of meals. Little Rowan is simply adorable, and those cute rolls are so sweet , like she is getting plenty of nourishment. Great video.
Nice catch. Scrape the meat from the skeleton w/ a fork and make salmon patties or dog food.
Good job, I used to love going dip netting at Kasilof

Your little daughter is so cute what a beautiful family . Enjoy watching you guys fishing.
Hey guys, going back a year when you were standing in your snow covered lot, did you ever think that you'd be where you are now? Going dip netting and putting up 66 Salmon filets. I dare say, probably not. You have done an absolutely , fantastic job building, what I believe, will be an awesome homestead for you ,Rowen and God willing, a brother or sister or more. ❤❤❤❤ You're an awesome couple quickly adapting to the Alaskan Way. God bless you richly and all the best. Barb and Bob

Nice amount of fish! Good job!
Great job, it's going to be a good winter with a full freezer😊
Good job guys
Tweezers work very well to take the pin bones out, forceps, or needle noise pliers.
Rowan is so cute. Nice hail of fish! Filleting from the tail is easier
Nice job!
Love it! lol the words and names are funny here
Awesome! ❤
Beautiful baby. That was quite a haul!
Practice makes perfect! Put a towel under that cutting board. Good job. 😊
What a haul--good job guys! Rowan is a good baby & she's beautiful. 💜

Great work. Rowan is really cute.
Looks so yummy, and the baby is sweet!
just subbed up, first video that popped up on my algo,. I like what you are doing!
Nice fishing trip! I think that bloodline on the internal cavity of salmon is called the 'kidney'.
Good haul
Rowan is mesmerized by the birds noise 😢🎉
Yikes....That's a lot of fish!!! LOL Hey, maybe sometime you could show us a drone shot of your property? It would be interesting to see. Thanks!!
Happy you could get away and fish?Hi from Colorado Springs 😀
Your salmon looks delicious , good job. Now i am hungry 😂
When you were cleaning salmon number three in the stream, over your shoulder, there was a nice trout jump in the little stream. Take some of that salmon roe and go catch that fish.
Yep same thing with Skilak lake. Skeelack is how its said. Hope I got it right
Nice catch. You’ll get the fillet’n figured out. We are building our off grid home too. But we are in Alabama. It’s hot as hell.😂…
Next time take a spoon and scrape the the back bone to make salmon burgers, you’ll be surprised at how much meat is left after you filet them. Also when you vacuum seal more than one filet to a bag, skin side out, meat to meat. That way if you get freezer burn the meat is protected, so leave the skin to the outside.
ya the baby can see very far at the age but he is so cute and Happy 4th of July and I hope get all the fish you need so good luck
Soooooooo cuteeeee baby ❤❤❤❤❤❤
join the club
Yummy bounty! ❤
Wow, great catch! Food for the whole family!🐶👩👩👧
Hey guys nice Sockeye love them by the way if you like caviar here's the recipe 48 oz of water 16 oz of salt mix up until dissolved cold water now you want to break the eggs away from the membrane you can get a plastic great from Home Depot it's like a plastic like a plastic screen that has holes the size of the eggs and you just rub the eggs gently inside those membranes and they'll come through the screen now if you're lucky enough and you know that it's a female you can strip the eggs right if it's still alive into the Ziplock bags that's what I normally do now you take those eggs you have that are free and you put it into the water and salt mixture typically go 30 minutes I usually go about 20 because I know that I'm going to be eating eating with this caviar and it's not going to last very long a little bit longer it'll get more saltier and you can adjust the salt sometimes I use about 14 12 to 14 oz for my taste but this stuff is wonderful once you bring it properly. I recommend this book buy Jack Whelan books name smoking salmon and trout tanning freezing pickling and more you can get off Amazon I tell people it's the Bible of canning and just about anything else we're going to do you can cross uses for other species too he has a whole section like how to make loxs and it's wonderful I've done it it takes about 2 days to make Nova lox but there's lots of good stuff in that book and it's worth it really you'll be amazed
👍
❤
Nice haul!
On another note how does Starlink work for y'all?
Awesome job, a lot of meals on the table. Really great this winter. I'm happy for you many blessings, and thank you for sharing and keeping safe in all you do ❤
good jiob
What part of Alaska are you located? I bought property in Wasilla a few years ago but cant make the jump to actually do anything with it, or move to Alaska. Always loved Alaska. Visited 15 times in the last 20 years. New subscriber
It is easer if you use a spoon on the blood line.
Low and slow for smoking; get the meat as high away from fire as you can. Takes a bit longer to get it cooked through but you won’t overcook
❤❤❤❤ greetings Viet Nam ❤❤❤❤
Those fish head would have made a nice soup.
Wow i love to try to catch fish like that but hear in Australia nothing like that hear very good like that your wife likes cutting up the fish usally its a man;s thing but its good very well done never seen all that done you did good job
Use a spoon in the future to clean the backbone.
Matthew 18:19-20
King James Version
19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of my Father which is in heaven.
20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. God blessings over you ...
You should not be cleaning those fish in that stream by your house. . Those kasilof fish are full of round worms. Now, you are spreading parasites to a watershed that does not have parasites. I’m serious. Please be a good neighbor.
That is a good point that never crossed our minds. We have always cleaned fish in the same water they came from. Thank you for bringing it up or we likely would have done it again.
It’s a good idea to freeze those Kasilof fish before doing sushi. Be cautious with caviar, too. I won’t caviar Kenai fish, either. In a couple weeks you can get pristine silvers in your backyard that are parasite free, for caviar.
