While I couldn't imagine playing without knowing the history, I do think those commenters are missing something important. Playing it this way, you're not seeing things through Kratos' eyes, you're seeing things from Atreus' instead. The kid doesn't know the backstory, he learns it as he goes, and so does eralia
That is a good way to put it. But another way to put is like: two friend, going to a movie to watch an animated film. One is a doctor and the other is an animator. Both agree that the movie they watched were great, however, the animator have a depth of knowledge that let them appreciate the movie more from a prespective that his friend, the doctor, doesn't have. Does it makes the movie bad for the doctor? No. But the animator *wish* they can express how beautifully made and how difficult the process of making the scenes in the movie are. They wish the doctor can see the movie through their eyes and understanding.
2 reasons I love Eralia's playthroughs. 1. Awesome personality. 2. She doesn't play games the way I do. Which I love. I'm ready to see more. Away great Eralia and everyone else.
@@eralia It's cool, no one pays as much attention to details as you do so every episode is entertaining. I especially like that you do all the side quests.
Me watching this playthrough: “I should take a shot every time Eralia yelps, screams or says OMG (of war)… Half way through: “She’s trying to kill me!”
This new GoW era, 2018 especially, are amazing because of the wide audience net that they cast. The game's narrative is fantastic as a player coming from the previous saga, as a new player coming in totally blind, and a returning player replaying the game again. There are so many interactions that are interpreted differently depending on which of these types of players you are, it's truly fantastic that all 3 of those experiences are well worth it.
I love how you mentioned that the axe handle thing was an Omega symbol 😂 which has to do with the old GOW games and the whole greek mythology of the older games😊
I feel your pain on the six-month wait for playing God of War Ragnarok. I remember once i waited about 4 years after this God of War to see a Ragnarok playthrough. ;) To be serious though, gg on this episode. And you can rely on two things during this six-month season. 1) we'll be thinking of you and praying for you. 2) we'll be here when you get back and eager to see you continue in this epic and beautiful series. Also, i got your happy birthday message earlier this week on Discord. Thank you for that. 😊

This playthrough is great! Feels like watching a friend play this game even though you don't know all of us. I respect not looking up the lore to the previous games as viewing that later will give a really satisfying "aha"- moment. Keep up the great work!
this is such a nice compliment to receive 🥹 exactly the environment that i hope to provide and to foster in the channel, i want everyone to feel like we’re all just here playing and enjoying a game together. 😊

Always great to catch another post! And seeing the extra special way God of War is capturing your love has been something to see. I really love how you started with GoW 2018. Me personally would recommend you GoW 2018 then the older games then GoW Ragnarok. Also please make sure you watch The Raising Kratos Documentary after playing the games. It's a much watch documentary on how the devs put in so much effort and love into the game and how much it meant for them, would love to see your reaction on the documentary.
the older games still hold up and the graphic in gow 3 is amazing even though it came out for ps3[also in ps4 later] but yeah the first two came out in ps2 i understand if its too old for you to play
While going in blind makes some references to Kratos's past and story much more vague, I think it doesn't make it harder to understand or connect with the themes.
The difference between not knowing anything about the previous games and knowing about them is huge in terms of character development. In comparison, this game has basically 0 character development. There's also a single moment in this game where knowing or not knowing about the previous games leads to either being just another moment for the player, or potentially being the best and hypest moment in the entire game.
@@Ghost-zh5up "in comparison". Character development within this single game (and alongside Ragnarok) pales in comparison when you add the rest of the saga to the mix.

@@Ghost-zh5up Yeah I just wanted to clarify it since she (and many more that didn't play the previous games) seems to think that not "needing" to play the other games to have a very good experience with these new ones is the same as not missing out on much. Just pointing out she is missing out on a LOT in terms of story and character development.
@@Merquitarika well yeah true to me knowing the back story made me understand how he is now and all the troubles and traumas that took for Kratos to be who he is. She would also understand better why he's the way he is with atreous.
Hi Eralia, It´s really nice to see your reactions while you continue advancing in this master piece. The way you approach it is really respectable and anyway, it's your experience. Something similar happened to me, since I never had game consoles. What I did was see a summary of the previous games. In this sense, later on you will obtain a weapon that you will only be able to appreciate if you know its history, and you would also understand much better why Kratos is like that with his son, among other things like, he has a wife and a daughter before.
I believe this game can be enjoyed both with and without knowing Kratos' backstory. As many others have pointed out already, by not knowing anything you (as the player) learn more about who Kratos is along with Atreus. Your experience will be different to mine, and there is of course nothing wrong with that. I think that just emphasizes just how great this game is made and how it caters to two different audiences at the same time.
Would absolutely do anything in the world for you to play Dishonored. It has amazing mechanics and a storyline that is incredibly immersive. You’re my favorite channel, and I hope to see my favorite channel play my favorite game ❤
23:07 I've never heard that line from Atreus before, that's funny! There are so many quick dialogue bits that only play in a certain context, I'm wondering how many more there are that I've missed
Really appreciate a BLIND, blind playthrough. Too very often, I feel us GOW players are a bit too eager to try and make a Lets Player take the deep lore dive. I think it's actually something to appreciate about the game, the fact that people BRAND NEW to the series can make their own assumptions or understandings of Kratos' past or demeanor, just in the way he reacts or speaks on things. Just my personal preference, I like the executive decision making! And the soft reboot series does a great job, if something can't be conveyed through subtext and context clues in what Kratos says, the game finds a good way of EXPLAINING pretty explicitly what the audience should know! I think that's a much better way to find out about X then by watching a breakdown lore video that explains the whole history of X. LIke I said, just my personal opinion, and no real hate against lore videos!
Nah just a lore recap of 1,2,3, ascension, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. I don’t think she would enjoy the old gameplay at all and it would be tedious waiting for her to complete those just to get to ragnarok.
I'm a father of three kids and laughed at how often I've said stuff similar to kratos although in a more positive way... I hope😂 For example I've often said "the advantage of being a pessimist is you're rarely disappointed!"
It's interesting to see a person play through the game figure out who is the "good guys" and "bad guys" within the war between the light and dark elves... Even the atmosphere and lighting is interesting in this part of the game. The dark elves were smothering the light but within the temple it then caused all of the light to be diffused throughout so you could SEE everything all the time!... The light elves let the light be free... And so the outside is super lit up but most of the temple is pitch black. Its an interesting dichotomy, IMO.
I played this game completely blind (my flatmate at the time downloaded it on my console and I was bored one day and gave it a go) and I have zero regrets. The older games aren't my style, which is why I never played them when I was younger, and there's no way I would have properly appreciated anything that happened in them without having experienced this game first and having that investment in the characters
I think playing the OG trilogy in between this and Ragnarok would be the most satisfying way to experience the story as a new fan. You definitely can play the new ones back to back, and then go and see how things lead up to one another. However, I think going into Ragnarok with the most knowledge of the lore as possible will be the most fulfilling. Plus, selfishly, I must admit I just really want to see you play the old games and how much you'll struggle with the controls >:)
Going into this game without the previous lore is a completely valid way to enjoy the game and story. I can even see how the early game is more exciting, such as watching him lift that whole tree at the start. Anyone who’s played the previous games would just shrug with no surprise. While this is a soft-reboot, there will be mentions to the previous games in both this and Ragnarok. Also some scenes hit a lot harder knowing Kratos’ past. I do hope you enjoy the older games when you get around to them.
13:08 Yes you can do that. Just like how The Lord of the Rings did it. They released the prequel later which was The Hobbit Trilogy. But my one suggestion is to Watch or Play (whatever you want) the Old Game before tackling God of War: Ragnarok. Just a suggestion. :) Otherwise loving your playthrough ❤
I think both options are good, starting from this one or from the older ones. Me as and old gamer started by the first one back in the days obviously but I've seen many youtubers starting by this one and then they were so amazed by Kratos they played the old ones. If you start with this you sense Kratos has a past but you can still play it perfectly and enjoy it, Krato's past is not so important in order to play this game
just ONE info and ONE tip. [info] 55:52 "money doesn't seem to be an issue.." Correct.. however resources for upgrades such as the one mentioned at 1:43:07, 'such things' are limited to be collected. i mean to say, by looting alone will not be able to satisfy every single gear. [tip] 1:36:38 As soon as an Ancient go on its FOURS(not just opens its chest while STANDING), use your beloved 'LASER' Runic Attack toward its heart and see what kind of damage you will inflict. (Atreus will not reveal this in his Bestiary)
Personally, Alfheim was the hardest for me because the enemies blinded me a lot. I swear I’m decent at this game but when those buggahs show up, i play like chicken shet XD
You're quite good for someone playing it for the 1st time. I don't think I was that good the first time I played it. I hope you eventually tackle and defeat the hardest boss in the game and capture it on video, that will be interesting to watch.
I like Kratos' reactions to ghosts on the patricide quest, the bad Thor quest, and offering to see Faye quest, may give you some hints on his past. It looks completely random at first, but tells great deal about what bothers Kratos in general.
Seeing your perspective without the old games is interesting. And I like it. You don't have to watch the old games first. Are there things what will make more sense, yes. Would some things hit harder. Of course. However. Think of it this way, Eralia will have a reverse experience. Playing through this, and possibly Ragnorak next, will enhance the experience of earlier games. Some things will then stand out and be comparable to these playthroughs. Also, the original games are a completely different playtime. Still Hella fun. But. We'll get there.
What if I don't want to backspace about the fact you could've used the axe :P also yeah you should be able to catch up on the previous games as you see fit. It's just whether you want to understand the things in the moment or later. Can't wait for the next one for my second favorite part of this game.
Hey, just want to say that don't upgrade everything!! You will need hacksilver for a lot of new stuffs later on so use the hacksilver wisely Also, Revenants(Poison witches) can be defeated after Atreus stuns them with arrow then you can attack it Lastly, i suggest you to look at the surroundings more closely as you have missed quite a few things ( keel the eyes open) 😺
In God of War Ragnarök, it's likely that Kratos is around 1,055 years old. He's something of an old man, but as a demigod, he is still more than young enough to hold his own and then some in battle. Unfortunately, this is based on maths and educated guesses
I know my opinion doesn't mean shit but here it is. I fully support your choice to play this one blind. It totally works. I urge you, though, no I beg you!, to go into Ragnarok with knowledge of Kratos' history. No spoilers because I'm not a POS but there are so many small references here and there and you can really grasp the scope of his character arc. Play GOW 1,2,3 & Ascension or watch a recap video. That's just my 7 cents (my 2 cents adjusted for inflation). Also, thank you for sharing your reactions with us!!
Guys I'm watching a first time playing God of War 2018 here - then I'm playing a round of Hades 2 (Early Acces - but like Gold Edition) - and then I'm watching at least one episode of Blood Of Zeus on Netflix (season 2 is just out). ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... ... I love my life! 😻(And the next God Of War 2005 video is also due soon).
While I couldn't imagine playing without knowing the history, I do think those commenters are missing something important. I like Kratos' reactions to ghosts on the patricide quest, the bad Thor quest, and offering to see Faye quest, may give you some hints on his past. It looks completely random at first, but tells great deal about what bothers Kratos in general.
Someone still get this woman a SHIELD😂😂
Seeing your perspective without the old games is interesting. And I like it. You don't have to watch the old games first.
Are there things what will make more sense, yes. Would some things hit harder. Of course.
However. Think of it this way, Eralia will have a reverse experience. Playing through this, and possibly Ragnorak next, will enhance the experience of earlier games. Some things will then stand out and be comparable to these playthroughs.
Also, the original games are a completely different playtime. Still Hella fun. But. We'll get there.
Great video as usual but i waited so long for more elf realm and side quests...damn😑 love all the same tho❤✨
What if I don't want to backspace about the fact you could've used the axe :P also yeah you should be able to catch up on the previous games as you see fit. It's just whether you want to understand the things in the moment or later. Can't wait for the next one for my second favorite part of this game.
To kill the Revenents easy, use arrows to stun them 1st, then while stunned get them
Finally after 5 episodes, someone said something useful
Hey, just want to say that don't upgrade everything!! You will need hacksilver for a lot of new stuffs later on so use the hacksilver wisely
Also, Revenants(Poison witches) can be defeated after Atreus stuns them with arrow then you can attack it
Lastly, i suggest you to look at the surroundings more closely as you have missed quite a few things ( keel the eyes open) 😺
Best way to kill Revenants is stun, so mash Atreus' arrows and use your fists to build the stun gauge faster
In God of War Ragnarök, it's likely that Kratos is around 1,055 years old. He's something of an old man, but as a demigod, he is still more than young enough to hold his own and then some in battle. Unfortunately, this is based on maths and educated guesses
Yesssss another episode :D
I know my opinion doesn't mean shit but here it is. I fully support your choice to play this one blind. It totally works. I urge you, though, no I beg you!, to go into Ragnarok with knowledge of Kratos' history. No spoilers because I'm not a POS but there are so many small references here and there and you can really grasp the scope of his character arc. Play GOW 1,2,3 & Ascension or watch a recap video. That's just my 7 cents (my 2 cents adjusted for inflation).
Also, thank you for sharing your reactions with us!!
The Realm Shift is OP. Not a bad idea to use it for the rest of the game.
I too forgot to walk
1:04:57 "I got things that ain't gonna hammer themselves" Is that intentional double entendre from the writers? 😁
Wooooooooo let’s go! Dad of boy!
Love the hair
I like what you had to say. For me personally. I hope you play the older games in the future as well. 👍
i am curious to know what IEM(the wired earpiece/earphone) you are wearing.
i hope you do not mind sharing what it is.
would love to see you play the old GOW games
