- Three first-half goals helped Stoke City demolish Bolton Wanderers and reach the FA Cup final for the first time in their history.
Aided by some woeful Bolton defending, Matthew Etherington, Robert Huth and Kenwyne Jones scored in the first half-hour and two goals by Jon Walters after the break completed the victory.
Stoke, roared on by their vociferous fans, can look forward to returning to Wembley to face Manchester City in the final on 14 May.
Their other reward is a possible place in the Europa League, either through winning the FA Cup or if City secure fourth place in the league and enter the Champions League - which will mean the Cup runners-up gain the European spot.
For Wanderers, however, the occasion was a massive anti-climax as their hopes of reaching a first final since 1958 in tribute to the late Nat Lofthouse were quickly left in ruins.
Bolton were given an ominous warning in the opening minutes when they were caught napping by a quickly taken Stoke free-kick that enabled Walters to escape down the left before being denied by Jussi Jaaskelainen.
Bolton did manage a couple of efforts at the other end, with Gary Cahill blasting over from a corner and Johan Elmander failing to test Thomas Sorensen with a low shot from distance.
But their big day began to disintegrate from the moment a misplaced pass by Paul Robinson found Etherington on the edge of the area and the winger composed himself before lashing a fierce shot into the corner of the net.
Things quickly got worse for Bolton and, again, their defending was at fault. Cahill got no distance on his header as he tried to clear a cross and Huth met the bouncing ball with a first-time shot that flew past Jaaskelainen's despairing dive.

Love watching this time and time again. Watched scfc live since 1973 and this was the best stoke match ever for me. We had arrived. Even though winning the autoglass trophy at Wembley in 1992 and 2000 was good this was better. Should have tried harder in the final and won it though. Come on stoke semis in the league cup last year lets push and push and bring a major trophy back to this great city of hours. Put us on the map alongside the Mancs and scousers.

I went to the 72 win over Chelsea, I was at the VIC when Ajax came, I was at Cardiff when they were all set to celebrate and we scored in the last few minutes to go to the playoff Final but this day beat them all and that took some doing. Very very Proud that day and whenever I feel a little blue I come back to this and it makes life a little better lol.
I laugh at people saying "I hate Stoke, all they ever do is to sit deep and try scoring goals on counter or from set pieces." Well, you cant win 5-0 being so defensive all the time, can you?
What a day that was remember being in complete shock at half time was about 30 of us from castle all speechless but couldnt shut up at the same time😂

This really started the rot for Bolton. Coyle had actually done a solid job up to this game. After this they went off the boil in the league, and that set the tone for the following season when they went down. Haven't been back since. Looks like they might be relegated back to League One for the 2nd time in 4 years too.
Definitely the best footballing day ever! We're Stoke, we'll win at Wembley whenever we want.

Pure elation after all the years of shit prior to our promotion, FA Cup run and Europe. The whole day was immense from start to finish.
Gutted that I'm too young to have followed stoke back in these days, watching them now just makes me think Why couldn't I have been born a couple of years earlier so I could go around England watching this stoke side instead of the shit we have now

I have watched Shawcross time and time again, committed and brave as he is, he truly is an awful centre half, with little to no ability what so ever. Shown up whenever he comes up against any half decent striker with half a braincell and a bit of pace and power.
