    Hi. 57yo from Australia - just joined a club again after 6yrs. Have had some lessons and watched a hundred vids to try and fix the early extension/over the top/ hips spinning out faults, only to be frustrated. Even more frustrating because I have always been sporty and some days I just flush balls at the range and I knew there was game somewhere in me - just needed to groove a swing. Watched your tutorial and the left lean and back to the target turn was something I put into action yesterday. Have only broken 90 twice in my life before yesterday - went out and did some practice with the new drills and then shot 84! Probably only some putts prevented breaking eighty. Thanks!

    Wow! After watching this video I went straight to my hitting net and filmed my swing adding left side bend to my backswing. It may be the first time that I can remember that my club shallowed without doing some manipulation with my arms (that never holds up under pressure). Even though my right elbow gets a little high in the backswing, when I transitioned the elbow returned to my side and the club was pointed directly at the ball instead of steep half way down. My hips never left the "wall line" I drew on the video. The right hip stayed on it until the left hip was on in. Firing my right hip forward early especially with the driver is one of my tendencies. This results in a big block with my right shoulder dropping versus staying high in transition. I tried the side bend with my driver and got the same result as my seven iron with my club naturally shallowing. This was one of the easiest swing adjustments I can remember. Thanks Milo and Ed!!

      Quick Update: I've done a couple of range sessions and here are some learnings for my swing:
      1) The clubhead on the initial takeaway is right on the shaft plane or just above. Previously I had to work hard to get this path. The side bend makes it automatic for me. The club feels much steeper at arm parallel in the backswing than it looks on video.
      2) To get the natural shallowing from standing the club up I had to be more patient in the transition. As I "squat" I needed to feel like my arms are paused. It looks smooth on video but feels like a pause to me.
      3) Adding more right side bend in the downswing had a big impact on starting the ball on line. I'm pretty matched up now back and forth with maybe a little more right side bending at impact.
      I found that swinging anything above about 70% would cause my old tendency of thrusting my right hip forward early would return. I now know instantly when it happens. I expect this to improve with practice.

    Great to see Ed in his debut 1st video! I've been working on this since Nov. 2020 when I saw Milo @ Superstition. I like Milo's comment about dominoes and how everything is built on what came before. For me, that has meant re-learning the backswing and how to increase my turn and add more shoulder inclination. It's counter-intuitive but to get more shallow in delivery, you need to be steeper at the top, i.e. to be dynamic, it is better to 'shift' from inclined shoulders to a shallower delivery! Thanks for all the great info--keep it coming!

  • @thomasfraser9072

    Hi Milo and Ed great video.
    Simple put as the right shoulder goes up on the backswing the lead shoulder goes down resulting in the perfect lead side bend and then on the downswing as the lead shoulder goes up the trail shoulder goes down resulting in a perfect trail side bend and then at the end of the golfer’s swing both shoulders level together presenting the perfect pose to the classic swing.
    At age 74 my shoulders is now all I think about as I am swinging my club because I know the rest of my body takes the lead of my up and down shoulders. Cheers

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  3 года назад +2

      Yes, but roundedness at setup is important in this equation. Thanks for watching Thomas.

    • @thomasfraser9072
      @thomasfraser9072 3 года назад

      @@MiloLinesGolf i agree. The roundness you speak of is actually done through the pulling power of our obliques muscles that connects the limited range of motion of our shoulders and hips together as we swing our club from side to side around our body.
      Since both our shoulders joints and hip joint have a limited range of motion of of only 20 degrees up down and around their sockets; we need the pulling power of both our abdominal muscles and the twisting power of our side muscles known as our obliques to be one hundred percent responsible for both the alternating side binding of our body as well as the ability for us to to pivot in place turning our body back and forth as we swing out club. Cheers

    Morning from thee other side of the world. Thanks for the vid. Informative!!
    Question on 'feels' - I get the need for the lead side bend o during the takeaway but, instead of focusing on the body can awareness not be focused on the hands (lead hand pushing down on handle and trail hand pulling up) to create the same effect? What is the downside of a 'hands' as opposed to a 'body' focus?
    Thanks,

    I've just realised that I've never had any sidebend in my swing which is the main reason I've fought with my right elbow and early release. The drill that really made me feel what I should be doing is trying to hit with only my right hand - which necessitates me hinging my right hand back and maintaining width on the backswing. Then as I weight transfer to try to hit the ball I have to right sidebend if I want to maintain that wrist angle as I approach the ball. Viola, I now have some forward shaft lean when hitting the ball as my hips clear. I need to drill this for a while and can then concentrate on being more rotary and leading more with that left knee.

    • @AndrewDCDrummond
      @AndrewDCDrummond 3 года назад

      It's the right sidebend that automatically brings that right elbow into the side, and a lack of it that causes it not to - imho. I had a coach that in turn was having lessons with one of David Leadbetters guys (who coached the beautiful swing of Frank Nobilo) in order to reduce the lateness of his hit - which was probably too much sidebend. In turn I was hitting terribly late and my coach asked his coach what he should tell me. "Give up" was the answer :-) But it seems pretty clear to me now that the degree of right sidebend is the differentiator.

    So many good topics in this video only question is on turning door knob. I was working on that a while back and it seemed to produce a higher handle at impact. To eliminate that would you suggest more right bend or straightening of arms or something all together different?

    • @edlasatergolf

      I would have to see you do that but usually when the COM trails your hands in the downswing you can use the ground to pivot and the handle should be pretty neutral.

    • @MiloLinesGolf

    • @saturdayshanks3753
      @saturdayshanks3753 3 года назад

      Between the “left bend” and dropping your right hip back instead of turning your hips, yeah you’ll lower just a bit. Once you shift pressure to your lead leg on the downswing, that should bring your swing’s low point more forward and lead to ball then ground contact. :)

    • @MiloLinesGolf
      @MiloLinesGolf  3 года назад

      I'd have to see, but it's possible you aren't keeping enough height in your hips and are not extending your trail leg a bit, but rather getting into the ground too early in your swing. I'd prefer see the sit down happen in transition/downswing.
