1 dimensional? I find Custodes lists to be internally pretty varied if you want them to be. It is a melee first army, thought, so just like WE and Tau you kind of only pop off in one phase.

Was honored to participate in WCW this year. So awesome Folger won! I had my only loss into John Lennons Astra in the group finals. He‘s a real paragon of gentlemanly 40k! The overall level of play was the highest I ever experienced (out of more than 200 tournaments I played). You can play almost any army you like and win if you just play good enough, that‘s just lovely.
Exactly my reaction. That, and a reminder that while army selection does matter, and luck can make or break any game, in the end victory belongs to the better player. Well, almost always. The big local tournament once had a World-class player draw a very unlucky hard counter in his very first game. I seem to recall he ran into a meme player running three Tesseract Vaults? Which, at the time, was about as far from Meta-optimal as it got, but - it turns out - also highly effective anti-Meta with a bit of luck. He lost, and that led into a downwards spiral as every new opponent he faced fielded increasingly weird and gimmicky armies; Ork Boyz hordes, an Eldar player running a pair of Wraithknights, Imperial Guard Superheavy Company, etc. Kind of hilarious, but a serious downer for the poor sod who saw his perfect tournament score tank hard.

Well, it's the pilot combined with spiking insanely hard on some absolutely key rolls. Make no mistake, no one anywhere is going to get to the finals of WCW without being a master, especially with Custodes, but winning that finals match against that specific Guard list required not only perfect play but a lot of lucky breaks.
I think the Grav Tank is going to legends and they'll create a new plastic model that functionally does the same thing. There are too many recast Grav tanks out there for GW to seriously compete with them.

The fact that FW is notorious for poor quality and high prices on it's premiere big models and especially in the wake of the Finecast fiasco means that a lot of veteran players won't even consider buying official GW resin models any more. It's even rumored that a few years ago a Warhammer World tournament staffer claimed that there were more Callidus Grav Tanks on tables at that event alone than the company had ever sold.
As someone very new to this, it is very nice to see that meta isn't everything. The player is just as important or even more it seems - GLORIOUS VICTORY!
If 10th does anything it allows people to think non meta and get it done 3 very different guard lists top 5. A primarch ultramarine list and a custodes non meta detachment list. My local recent GT taken by sisters and before that nurgle demon list.
If he took bikes and dreads he would not win the event. A world top player , piloting a "mid"(48%) army. Shows the difference between best and regular player, because his list looks like almost all custodes lists look like. Right now l worry what GW is going to do to wardens, calladius and blade champions.

I have been yelling at the clouds for a year now about triple hydras. Also taurox prime and jump out boy scions are mean as hell I'm running 4 in my 60 scion list. Put creed in solo pop her out the back for cover, give both scion squads orders on deploy, and one with fields of fire. with the vox caster you get a cp on 4 from a free strat.
Really good to see the variety in winning armies and the relatively even win rates, and at least at the moment big wins going to armies that are middle of the pack by win rates (not just top three). Good for the health of the game- nobody wants to feel it's hopeless except for the few lucky armies.
Pretty crazy how dominant the Imperium factions were at the top end of the results. Marines, Custodes, Guard, and Sororitas seemed to feast. Xenos and Chaos players had a rough weekend.
Dude I thought my list with 3 Blade champions was a meme, but here we have a tournament winner running the same. That said, my list has no psykana, and bunch of terminators in it as well.
3 Blade champs has been the staple for ages now. Unfortunately Custodes don't have great internal balance at all. So all the decent units are just spammed to have any kind of success.
I was surprised to see 3x Ballistus and 3x Vindicators! I got 3 Ballistus myself but always concidered it to be more of a meme to use all 3 at once. Now it doesn't feel as much of a meme anymore :D
The fact Custodes topped this tournament against a Guard player is insane. I feel from personal experience that guard is one of the worst matchups for Custodes due to all the high damage high AP tanks.
To be fair, the guard players list was a bunch of autocannons which even with some armor shred support, are still going to bounce off custodes for the most part. Same with the battle cannon russes. Guy was basically throwing meltas and praying for high damage rolls and failed invulns.
I watched the stream. The amount of 4+++ fnp made was insane. He basically just stood in the open with his whole army and tanked 2000pts of guard shooting.
6:50 I’m newer to the game and a little confused. Do the spears really get to shoot in Melee? I didn’t think Assault did that unless there was some other enhancement I missed somewhere.
They shouldn't because they are still not very good, they are just a cheap long range fire platform with a 2+ save and some built in re-rolls, the damage output is mediocre though. Cover and AOC those lascannons become AP1, and the missiles become AP0, and you have no wound re-rolls so are wounding usually on 3s or4s, or even 5s in the cases of the missiles. It's 4 very average anti-tank shots for 130pts, even most transports will survive a ballistus shooting them on average, you need like 3 to be a real threat and that is 390pts.
Seems like the strength of a good player learning from their main faction to bolster the weaknesses of a different faction. I should play more factions now and then.
Great video. I was super excited to watch Ironstorm Spear head with Ultramarines do so well. I’ve been thinking about doing Fist of Ultramar in 2025. Thinking Gladiator Reaper and Executioner could be fun instead of triple vindicator.
Is the way the terrain works in the ad here really a good idea? Doesn't it create massive firing lanes that I assume make things unfair? I don't set up terrain so I don't know these sorts of things.

Now there are 2 things GW can do. 1.Use the bandwagon to push Custodes models, etc. No nerfs. 2. Nerf Custodes into the ground. Community will meme it as they nerf them because females joined them.
I watched the game live, Folger rolled 75% of his 4+ invulnerable saves. Had he failed a few more it would have been a different winner. Really good masterclass in tactics though
Interesting that both of the top IG lists each took two units of Aquilions. They have only been out a couple of months, barely “patched in”, and are already looking like “must takes” for IG lists (how many Hivestorm boxes have been sacrificed just for the Aquilions?). Sadly, it probably means they are going to get a big time nerf in the near future. Maybe even before the new IG codex drops.

played someone with this life, was a bit miserable not being able to charge a unit you want then having to shoot another you unit you don't want too, felt very silly, didnt feel like a war game felt like a silly rgp haha. DIdnt help that there rules are locked behind a pay wall so i ad no idea how the detachment worked. Also the inquisitor did more damage then any of my units at 95 points....wasn't very balanced! thanks for the upoad.
OK so legends units aren't allowed in tournaments because balance, except for custodes, which uses legends units and then beats everyone hands down. got it.
85pts, they re-roll hits against flying units (so Tau suits, flying daemons, chaos primarchs, jump pack troops, necron doomsythes, a lot of that stuff is in the meta), they are twin linked so re-roll wounds, they are damage 3 so kill elite infantry and you can increase their AP. You also get a hunter killer, they are lethal hits against vehicles as well, and it's a very cheap T9, 11W, OC3 vehicle. I mean an Impulsor for maines is only 5pts less and basically has the same profile and has no guns.
Just so everyone is aware talons fnp boost is ONLY in shooting and fight phases So it doesn’t work for tank shock, or any MW done from dropped bombs So shield host has the better strat imo
The Strat has that limit. But if you're talking about the detachment rule which is 5+ FnP, that works on any Mortal wounds as long as you're 6 inches near an SoS unit.
Playing a competitive Space Marine list with basically no Space Marine infantry, that's so fucking stupid and a reason why I'm not a fan of 10th edition.
They will get nerfed, because I play them. Every faction I play gets nuked. Black templars got sent to the bin, sisters are potentially about to get fucked over, deathwatch got removed from the bloody game and now custodes had the gall to win something so will promptly be seen as a problem by GW, same as templars. They won 1 GT in 3 months and basically got removed from play 🥲
Its a little sad that GW coordinates such a big tournament that could produce insane amounts of contents, only to waste it with what they call a stream. GWs streams have always been meh when it comes to actual bat reps but I feel while every other channel gets better, theirs get worse all the time. I dont even bother to watch anymore because the commentary is meh, the camera angles are meh, everything is boring and meh.

Try adding basic taurox loaded up with cyclopis and watch people rage. Kinda fun. 😂

auspex got confused, they have assault meaning advance and shoot, not pistol which lets you shoot in combat

Firing lanes aren't an automatic negative and can often help shape the flow of combat as each player has to avoid a full frontal collision.

played someone with this life, was a bit miserable not being able to charge a unit you want then having to shoot another you unit you don't want too, felt very silly, didnt feel like a war game felt like a silly rgp haha. DIdnt help that there rules are locked behind a pay wall so i ad no idea how the detachment worked. Also the inquisitor did more damage then any of my units at 95 points....wasn't very balanced! thanks for the upoad.

The hydras are an odd choice.
They go well into: Elite infantry, flying monsters such as Angron and C'Tans and they do well against tough necrons like Silent King and monolith.
85pts, they re-roll hits against flying units (so Tau suits, flying daemons, chaos primarchs, jump pack troops, necron doomsythes, a lot of that stuff is in the meta), they are twin linked so re-roll wounds, they are damage 3 so kill elite infantry and you can increase their AP. You also get a hunter killer, they are lethal hits against vehicles as well, and it's a very cheap T9, 11W, OC3 vehicle. I mean an Impulsor for maines is only 5pts less and basically has the same profile and has no guns.
Just so everyone is aware talons fnp boost is ONLY in shooting and fight phases
So it doesn’t work for tank shock, or any MW done from dropped bombs

The Strat has that limit. But if you're talking about the detachment rule which is 5+ FnP, that works on any Mortal wounds as long as you're 6 inches near an SoS unit.

Please don't nerf Custodies because of this. They are in my eyes quite bad.
They will get nerfed, because I play them. Every faction I play gets nuked. Black templars got sent to the bin, sisters are potentially about to get fucked over, deathwatch got removed from the bloody game and now custodes had the gall to win something so will promptly be seen as a problem by GW, same as templars. They won 1 GT in 3 months and basically got removed from play 🥲
Nerf for blade plus warden can be ok if there is a UP for the rest of the army.

Its a little sad that GW coordinates such a big tournament that could produce insane amounts of contents, only to waste it with what they call a stream. GWs streams have always been meh when it comes to actual bat reps but I feel while every other channel gets better, theirs get worse all the time.
I dont even bother to watch anymore because the commentary is meh, the camera angles are meh, everything is boring and meh.
