London is safe as an adult working professional person. Where there is crime & violence if you are unaware of it & not involved or connected to it the likelihood of it touching you is slim. @@learnmathwithprivilege , I think it depends on a number of things: how are you transitioning, via a tech bootcamp or going back to a formal institution? The latter is good but a job isn't guaranteed when you finish and when you are starting out gaining experience as quickly as possible is what you need (since you made a transition and have to factor in the time spent between that). I did the former and opted for a data science course at Explore AI Academy. They sorted out my internship and I got a job after that (of course even in this situation it is not guaranteed because you need to show the potential employer you are worth hiring, but the odds of at least getting a job are way better). My advice would be to first ask yourself what is it that you want your life to look like and work backwards to decide which tech role suits you best. I for one, did not see myself coding stuff day to day, everyday thus software dev didn't appeal to me, but data science and analytics did appeal to me. Then start teaching yourself the basics on youtube/Udemy so that you can have some exposure under your belt before you are expected to complete a bootcamp exam. Lastly you get accepted, making connections with people in the bootcamp , facilitators etc. and always be willing to help others. You will stand out and build connections with people for the long run.
This was illuminating. Great video 👌🏾 - I'm considering the UK or the Netherlands as I'm also in the tech space & they are actively courting experienced tech workers. Meanwhile SA immigration has become so hostile that they're rejecting 90% of Critical Skils VISAs with no justification. The violent crime syndicates in Cape Town are also something else. You feel like you're being watched and hunted sometimes. Happy to hear that London is that diverse and there's a sizeable diaspora. Looks like negotiating a good salary is a must though.

I just dont find the UK appealing..maybe a move to US woud be an option for me
