GenX-er, here, so someone who has actually seen stuff like this. Watching that group last night reminded me of watching a group of popular kids torture and bully a kid together until he falls and stops moving. When they're done, they smile and go back to being the beautiful people like what they did wasn't horrible. Everyone is so scared, they can't even go help because the popular kids are still watching. Everyone just turns and quietly walks away.
