    My guess would be that both the driver and his passenger were asleep and the truck drifted over into the semi. Perhaps they had been traveling all night to get to a jobsite. I remember when I was younger and had some close calls of the same nature. What a tragedy!!!

      That may be the case, but if you notice the rumble strip to alert drivers when they veer off to the right, the driver must have been in a deep sleep. I still wouldn't rule out watching a video on YT or using Google maps to zero in on their destination.

      Excellent observation. At approximately 4:35, if you zoom in you can see that the smaller trucks "main frame" avoided the impact... which made a wreck that was already gonna be bad, even worse. Since it missed the frame rail, the front drivers side suspension folded itself and the frame into a pretzel before the sturdy semi trailer turned the new aluminum sheet metal cab into shrapnel. It is a very sad scene.... driving a motor vehicle can be alot more dangerous than most think.... we are all 1 bad driver away from being hurt in an auto wreck.

  • @ronnieterry4916

    Apparently the semi truck had put out triangles. The pickup truck apparently scooped them up just before crashing into the semi trailer. The Ford F 350 was apparently traveling at a very high rate of speed parts of the left side of the truck cab was fuzed to the right side of the semi trailer. Then during Impact rolled the F 350 over scattering the ladders on top of the utility bed. The passenger was probably sleeping and the driver went to sleep after he had been driving since before daylight by a few hours then when the sun came up and the driver fell asleep when the sun came into the cab. Driving at night then when the sun comes up it is absolutely a must to stop and sleep. The Hyundai semi trailer is absolutely very rugged. The cab of the F 350 was ripped apart and the semi trailer is still in tact. I noticed some rim damage on the semi trailer and also tire damage.

    I'm still trying to figure out how this accident happened. First, that F-350 had to be going a decent clip, to cause that kind of damage. Second, I saw no skid marks indicating the driver of the F-350 saw the semi, let alone tried to avoid hitting it. Third, the broken down semi had his cones out, we know this, because they're all caught up in the chassis of the F-350. Fourth, the ANGLE needed, in order to hit that semi exactly as he did? Would make far more sense if it came from that frontage road/on-ramp, than from on the freeway.
    To impact the way it did, it had to be ALL the way over to the right.. but even further than the guardrail would be, then he tried to swerve between the semi, and the end of the guardrail, in order to impact what LOOKED to be dead-on drivers side, yet a bit ... what? Kitty-corner to the rear of the semi, in order to SPLIT THE FRAME, which was just insane.
    Unfortunately, with the amount of damage, and my eyes not what they once used to be, that's all I could really make out from what we saw.
    Did this guy fall asleep? Have a medical issue? I'd sure like to know what the passenger has to say. He's very lucky to be alive today. Crazy.

      There are tire marks at 1:50 that show the direction that the utility truck came from. It was on the main freeway and went right onto the shoulder, making contact with RR of the trailer with the LF of the Ford truck, literally ripping it apart.

    Well, it looks like the semi-truck had their road triangles out on the roadway like they should, per the federal regulations from the FMCSA, because you could see how they got scooped up and busted by the Ford. You have to deploy them if you're going to be on the shoulder for more than 10 minutes so, the semi-truck must have been waiting for roadside service for either engine trouble or tire trouble when the Ford crashed into the back of the trailer.

    That driver's side airbag is almost solid red. Also, there is no doubt at all that the truck had its emergency triangles out because they are wedged up in the undercarriage on the F350 where he was mowing them down before hitting the truck.

    • @clairerodden7630
      @clairerodden7630 11 месяцев назад

      Actually, that red box contained the triangles that the pickup carried, though it is possible the semi also had triangles staged. I don't have time to go back and review the tape, but, as a 29-year veteran of semi driving, that was my first thought. I was hit on the side of the road in a similar scenario on I-44 in Missouri, stopped for 2 minutes after a tire blew out to clear a "gator" hanging from my DOTbumper, was hit on the left side as I was standing at the right trailer door. No serious injuries to either the pickup driver or the car driver that he glanced off me and hit, but both vehicles totalled. DOT requires triangles to be set out after 10 minutes sitting on the shoulder or otherwise incapacitated, and too many uneducated truck drivers are taking their 30 minute break on the shoulder without placing triangles., public beware.

I guess I'm saying that I can't fathom how so much unbelievably devastating destruction could have occurred??? I said it probably was a blessing that tractor trailer was broken down, because if the F350 would've hit a family or a bus full of kids, there would be a lot more deaths than that one driver. I told my dad the other day about this because he wanted to pull over on the freeway and grab a fresh dead buck (deer). He was so adamant he was gonna get it on the way back. I kept arguing with him NO! Thankfully the deer was taken by someone else.

    RIP to the driver of the F350. Pretty hard hit to tear that truck up that much, no skid marks so he must have hit that trailer at 65 plus, and to hit the right rear corner he had to have been well off the road, since the semi was parked on the shoulder. Difficult investigation for a cause, and DOT will impound the tractor trailer and inspect every nut and bolt, as well as checking that the driver was fully in compliance. A bit hard to tell, but a couple drive tires on that tractor looked a bit sketchy to me, but maybe it was the angle of the picture taken. Hopefully the driver was all legal and good to go, that's a pretty tough situation to get over, even though he wasn't at fault.

      Most Ford trucks of that year come from the factory with a road speed limiter that is usually set at the factory to about 75 to 80 miles per hour.
      But with that body full of equipment ( that weight is pushing it all down the road) and if it is doing 80 mph and hits anything solid 🪨🪨 the force is so much greater, probably double, it has to destroy the moving object.
      Been there and scene that happened. A driver ran under the back of a tractor trailer that was sitting on the side of the road 🛣️ away from the main road, it didn't stop till it hit the rear tires of the trailer, it took all of the roof and cut the driver's top of their body off ( had a white sheet covering the driver's area)
