The worst part about telogen effluvium is you can’t seem to block it out. When I wake up in the morning I see hairs all over my sheets. When I walk around sometimes I’ll feel a tickle on my leg and it’s one of the hairs that have fallen. You see it all over your carpet even just hours after vacuuming. Showering is the worst part. Pulling out strands after strands of wet hair has to be one of the most cringe worthy and heart breaking things i’ve ever experienced. My recent weight loss is what triggered this. Just when I was starting to feel confident about my body, I have a whole new thing to be insecure about. I feel defeated.

Same here, I’m a guy though and 17 years old. I weighed around 230 pounds and now weight 168 pounds. But I rushed it. I am certain it was my crash diet that caused my hair loss. I do t have a receding hairline. It affects my whole scalp. Hairline is still there and fine. But i really do think it has to do something with my macros. I would sometimes just go by a day only eating 300 calories because I would drink water and just wanted to be skinny. I know it’s not as hard for a boy or man to go bald because it’s normalized. But at a young age it very depressing and going into my senior year, wanting to show off my new physique. I don’t even want to go to school anymore, but I’m rocking a buzz cut. And it’s not terrible. But the showers suck.

For everyone dealing with this I’m praying for you. This is so hard mentally and emotionally. I’m dealing with TE from Covid. Started losing my hair in oct. 2022 and it’s starting to get better Jan 2023. It gets better guys. I know what your dealing with and it’s tough. But when you start to see those little baby hairs start to focus on the new growth. Focusing on the new growth and that will help you. Stay strong.
    Repeat after me:
    MY HAIR IS STRONG
    MY HAIR IS HEALTHY
    MY SCALP IS HEALTHY
    MY IS GROWING STRONG
    MY HAIR IS GROWING THICKER
    MY HAIR WILL RETURN
STAY STRONG! We will get through this ❤

I'm a nurse, so I knew immediately what it was. I'm so sorry it took so long for you to be diagnosed. I was in the hospital for a month 2 months ago. My hair started to fall out about 3 weeks ago, and I'm already VERY bald.. I have a severe case. I had beautiful hair, and it's causing depression. I starting using Minoxidil. It works better on women than men. It won't help though for a few months. I'm also taking iron now since I tend to be anemic, which can cause hair loss. I wish I had as much hair as you do, so it could have been worse. You're still beautiful and don't look bald to me either. I can't even hide mine it's so bad. That large gap you showed us, that is all over my head. I'm sorry to women that this happens to. It's very hard. I hope you're doing better. Your hair will almost always grow back, which is the good thing!

Having saved that loss for a whole day compared to now is so vindicating to me. People have NO IDEA, they can't imagine how much hair you loose and people are like. "Oh it's FINE, you can't even tell." UGH!! I can hardly put mine in a ponytail anymore, none of my hair ties are small enough!! My hair was thin and fine already. Thank you for this video!

This video is so helpful, im so glad there is someone who sympathizes with people not believing your hair loss. I have been noticing major thinning in the part of my hair and the sides for almost half a year now, my family calls me dysmorphic, paranoid, and self absorbed. Your support and comforting energy is really helping me calm down and realize I have to let my hair fall out. Thank you for being so kind when I cant even turn to my family for help.

I'm sorry you're experiencing disbelief from your family. I know how painful and alienating that can be. But now you see there are more of us out there, and family are not the only ones who can provide support. I'm part of some IBD support groups on social media and it lifts my spirits to see others in the struggle coming out there other end victorious and stronger than before. Join a support group and look for answers from a medical provider who will support you. Knowing what you're dealing with can provide a world of relief.

Oh I know also very well the story when your family and your doctors doesnt believe that you're definitely loosing your hair. Exactly.. You are 'histeric' you are 'paranoid' or even hypochondriac.. In my case I had to suffer for many years. I had to loose more than 60% of my hair amount (today it is approx. 70%...)
My scalp was on the sides totally white and bald. Its very sad that the others (incl. closley relatives!) dont believe you.

I hate when the physicians say everyone sheds 100 to 200 hairs a day. Everyone's normal is different. I have never in all my 40 years of living shed near that. I shed less than 25 hairs per week. Now, I have about 100 hairs a day just breaks off and leave a small short stub of hair. Like you said, it's not balding, but it's thinning out at an extremely rapid pace. Something is wrong! AND like you said again, ❤️ my hair IS growing, I don't need growth products as they will try to recommend. The hair that is growing is all thinning out, while still getting longer but not thick as it would normally be. I look like a scarecrow with patches of thinning, long hair....😭😭😭

    • @luckycharm1212
      @luckycharm1212 3 года назад +9

Finally someone voiced it out! You are right.. The physicians come up with their "normal" hair shedding from the average American and their diet, lifestyle. It differs from country to country and is subjective. Since every allopathy doctor studies the American syllabus they keep stressing the same point across the globe. I used to shed 3 to 5 hairs per week. That was my normal. When I started shedding more than 30 strands per day, it was abnormal to me. It took me a decade to understand my cause for hair loss since every doctor said that it's due to dandruff (which I don't have). Now I shed 100 hairs per day and I am terrified to even see my hair in the mirror. I don't know whether I'll get back my thick long hair but atleast I want this hair fall to stop.

EXACTLY! I've been shedding more hair than usual since my early 20s, but it's gotten worse after I turned 25. I've been researching articles on hair loss for 3+ years since my hair line is now receding and my forehead is getting longer. I was visiting one dermatologist who not once looked at my scalp! She even had the nerve to say my hair was still thick - curly hair gives the impression of thick when it's not. Wasted a whole year with her. So I visited my family physician who actually did a blood test only for it to come out normal! He theorized it's something in my scalp. But now that I no longer have health insurance, I can't afford to visit another dermatologist. So I'm relying on supplements and topicals. I have hair growing, but they're all thin.

I had Covid the middle of March for 2 weeks. Two months later my hair started coming out just like she says. I hated taking a shower and coming it out. Well it's been almost 3 months since it started and it has slowed down but that's because I don't have much left but I french braid my hair and it covers the thinning pretty good. I have new growth around my hair line so it's coming back. It will take at least another year to get it back to not looking like a dandelion before it turns yellow with the sun shining thru! It will get better. Let it take it's course and you will get hair again!

@@kritikohli5466 hi I started taking viviscal and I have noticed less falling. In my opinion the best topical I have used is Kerenique. I bought both from Ulta. Our hair stories are a little different though. I think your hair will likely grow back nicely. Mine although isn’t falling as much as it was is thin at the crown and seems likely to remain that way. I used colored dry shampoo and toppik hair fibers to help camouflage it a bit. I know how heartbreaking it is to lose our hair as a woman but know that you are not alone❤️❤️

Stress is another reason which causes more and more hairs to shred... The more you see your hairs all over, the more you get stressed and that is what act as a catalyst in this telogen hair fall. End of March/April my hair has started falling out like mad 😭 my hair is naturally thick so I’ve noticed how thin it’s got in literally under a month. Omg me too! I’ve always had super thick hair and after I had Covid I lost so much hair for months!! Hair loss is so painful. One of the most painful things a woman can go through. Or a man! Collagen helped me so much! But I was seriously crying every night I wouldn’t brush or wash my hair because I couldn’t emotionally take seeing so much hair falling out! omg we gotta be twins…the exact same thing happened to me!! i got covid-19 on january and it finally left my body around the second week of february, a whole month!! and i was looking like a old man with the amount I lost 😞. my hair was so thick too 😭😭 and in may, a whole two months later i finally went to my dr and she recommended me multivitamins+vitamin d3+biotin and lemme tell you, after 3 weeks…boom i was already seeing some growth! and after a month only one or two hairs would come out when i brushed my hair.
but very recently, my new hairs have been falling out when i wash or brush my hair after, but only like 10 tiny hairs and a few long hairs…nothing serious. i guess my hair is shedding at the average rate again. if i see more though i might talk to my doc!
also im going to get my thyroid and vitamin levels checked soon so try that too just in case! you really never know. 🙂 i also have really bad dandruff that im going to see a dermatologist for soon aswell, since flaking/dandruff can stop your hair from growing back to it’s former self so if you have a itchy scalp or flaking too, it’s worth seeing a dermatologist or doctor.
anyways it’s july now, and most of it grew back, except for a little patch and most of my hair in that line in the middle of my head, i can never remember the name! 😂 best of luck to you though mami!! you got this!!

    Hello everyone!
Reading your comments makes me feel less alone in this. I always had such thick long beautiful hair. I used to receive compliments about my hair all the time. Two years ago I started dealing with Telogen effluvium hair loss due to stress and I was losing so much hair that I had to cut it way shorter. It has been a very traumatic journey. My hair was part of who I was and still, after two years I don’t feel myself 100%. I went to 2 dermatologists and I take supplements. Yes, my hair is better but still, when I wash my hair it’s shocking, when I wake up my bed and pillow are full of hair, and every time I brush my hair there is hair all over the floor. I´m taking care of my hair more than I ever did before and I still feel so scared every time I have to wash my hair. It feels that it doesn’t have an end.

For those who suffer TE get your Ferritin levels checked. Not iron not HB. Ferritin. Your level needs to be at 40/50 to stop shedding and 70 to regrow hair. I suffer from TE and my level was at 21. Speak to your MD and ask for an iron IV, I got mine for chronic migraines (these get worst when your Ferritin is low) and my Ferritin should rise from 21 to 100 in around 6 weeks. Iron pills Will take forever to increase Ferritin BC your colon only absorbs around 5mg per day. Also when you take iron pills you should take them every 48h, apparently your colon stops absorbing too much iron in a certain time frame to protect the body from overconsumption. If you take iron pills have a glass of orange juice with It, the Vitamin C helps your body to absorb the iron. (Suggestions by my neurologist)

I have been losing my hair for a few months now, but in the last three to four weeks it has been noticeably thinner and I am seeing those same spots on my scalp where hair should be. I had a video chat appt with my doctor yesterday for my annual check up, and mentioned this to her. She is sending me to a dermatologist to see what is causing my hair shedding. I've started using haircare products geared toward hair regrowth, and am taking hair, skin and nails vitamins. My life has been super stressful for the last several months, and six months ago I was diagnosed with insulin resistance and PCOS, so I'm sure that the combination of everything I've been going through has contributed to my massive hair loss. It's still very daunting and disturbing though. Thankfully I have a doctor who takes me seriously when issues arise, and she acts quickly to get me to the specialist I need. I'm hoping and praying I get an answer soon to what is causing this, so I can get a plan for treatment in place. Praying for everyone who is affected by this. Hang in there! ❤️🙏

My niece was experiencing the same thing and turned me on to Renpure Collagen and Biotin shampoo and conditioner. It is sulfate free, and had great reviews. I'm using up the last of my Hask Biotin shampoo and conditioner, before I start the Renpure. I'm using, as well, the Hask Biotin detangler and leave in treatment. It's early days on everything I'm trying so fingers crossed I get good results. I watched another video earlier and the woman mentioned taking saw palmetto. It's a DHT blocker, and I've heard from multiple sources now that this is also a great treatment for hair loss. I bought some a while back, but shortly after was told it's only for men, so I didn't take it. The bottle is still in my medicine cabinet unopened, so after hearing from multiple sources that women are seeing good results with their hair from taking it, I'm going to start taking it. I'm hearing, too, that a lot of women are saying they've lost their hair about two to three months after having covid, and I'm just recovering from covid. I don't want to wait for that to happen, to make things worse, so..... among everything in doing physically, I'm trying very hard to reduce my stress levels, which hasn't been easy, but I have to do something. Anyway, thanks again for the tip. I wish you well in your journey!

I had my own expereince with TE in 2022-2023. My experiences was similar but my shedding waa extremely fast.
I had an accident and shattered both of my feet. They were so bad i couldn't leave my bed for six weeks. This was in July. In Nov i noticed my hair thinning but i didnt think too much of it. Within a couple of weeks i lost more than half of my hair and what was lert felt like straw. I kept my hair line but everthing up top was gone. It was all scalp. I had juat finalized my divorce of 17 years too. It is very very unsettling to lose all of your hair so quick.
Im 51 and a male bur a full head of hair and no baldness in my family. A lot of people just said get over it. Its just hair. What did you expect? Never lose you hair? None of that helped. I was open about it and posted on Facebook what i was going through.
I did my homework - i knew what was happening wasnt normal balding. You dont go bald all at once and quickly. When i read about TE it made total sense to me. I read that if i started rogaine i would shed MORE and when i stopped i could lose what i gained. So i did nothing but wait. The shedding stopped almost as quickly as it began. I still had hair up front so i combed that back and wore my hair slicked back. Nine months passed and i wasn't seeing the bald patches anymore but my hair had so many different lenghts it was hard to know what was what. It hadn't been cut in almost a year. June 1,2023 i got my hair cut short and all of my hair had grown back. ALL OF IT. If you have TE dont panic. Its the most common cause of hair loss. Most times it will grow back 100%.
    Thanks for this post

I'm so glad I stumbled on your video! GREAT information and some hope that although it's a long process, eventually things can return to normal. I don't have the naturally thick, fast-growing hair that you have been blessed with, mine is very fine and slow growing. In fact I used to refer to it as "angel hair." However, after a breakthrough case of covid pneumonia back in the summer I'm now dealing with this hair loss issue. I've seen other videos and talked to a nurse who had a covid case and this is a somewhat common side effect of the virus which shows up a few months after infection. Your honesty and willingness to show and share your experience is so helpful. Now I realize it's going to be a long journey but hopefully in another 6 months or so my hair will start growing back in and the shedding will dissipate. You must be overjoyed at seeing the change in how much less hair you lose after washing and combing out your hair compared to the beginning of your experience. I was shocked. Thanks so much. I bet you look like a hair model by now!

Thank you for sharing your story openly - I have to admit, I'd never have had the courage. It's just comforting to find someone else going through a similar situation, (also having been told I have IBS and also have an appointment for first visit to rheumatologist..definitely subscribed although this has been the first video I've seen from your channel. Your positivism and the way you approach these diagnosis is making me rethink the way I feel about mine, and it's really helpful) and being the same age, just the feeling of not being alone. p.s. I also thought about just buzzing my hair too and getting a wig.. It feels like it would have been easier than seeing hair fall out. But I also changed my mind soon after xD

Thank you for making this. It honestly brings me so much comfort. I’ve been losing so much hair over the last year and my doctors would only tell me it’s normal and to use minoxidil leaving me feel completely written off and trying to figure out remedies on my own. I even started getting a sore/itchy scalp so it was pretty alarming. I think I might be nearing the tail end hopefully but we’ll see once July rolls around. 🤞🏼

I have the same type of hair loss and I think Im being ignored just because I haven't still reached a point where it is so so bad. I went to my doctor and told him about my problem and about how my hair loss was not normal anymore, but he didn't care, he never told me to go to the dermatologist. He only told me to do a blood test and that would be it. So I did one and everything was normal, which was even worse because I was suspecting of PCOS because I also have acne and other symptoms but my hormones where normal. So he didn't give a f and told me it would probably be stress. Damn.
Well, so here in Spain we have public healthcare but if your doctor doesn't tell you to go to the dermatologist, it's not gonna be free anymore, you would have to pay for it if you still want to go. So I did because I knew it wasn't a normal hair loss. Well she just checked my scalp for 2 minutes and asked for another blood test :) I did another one and guess what, everything was correct again. Its been 6 months since I started to deep into the problem and I still don't have a diagnostic, so I don't know what's going on or how to help on making it stop. Im actually mad at the health system because they just don't care until it gets so so bad, I think Im getting a better diagnostic by watching videos like this than paying to actual experts on this kind of stuff.

@@taybae8620 For those who suffer TE get your Ferritin levels checked.

I've been dealing with chronic telogen effluvium for years now caused by non-iron deficiency anemia. I've had excess shedding for so long my pattern has started to look like alopecia BUT my dermatologist has assured me thats what happens with CTE. If you have low ferritin levels your hair will fall out. Ferritin needs to be around 50 to stop shedding and 70 for regrowth. If you are having low ferritin chronic TE as soon as your body gets the ferritin it needs it will start to grow hair again.

I feel your pain. It does seem like it is more common in those with GI issues. I had to have emergency surgery and my hair loss started very soon after. The shedding got so bad that it was coming out like I had chemo. I lost so much all over and it was no longer coarse strands but also very thin and brittle as well. Went to dermatologist after 4 months of hair shed and I look like a zombie on walking dead where the hair is stringy, only in certain areas. I had long, gorgeous blode/graying hair, full head of hair. In 4 months it was gone. People said well you are at that age, and so many other comments saying it wasn't that bad but it is. My dermatologist gave me an rx and Mens minoxidil foam to ju.p start the growth. My hair I'd no longer shedding lime it was butter again there isn't much left. It's also so compromised it is broken off to short lengths. This telogen effluvium is no joke. My primary said it is common after major surgery as well as my dermatologist. I'm starting regrowth, it's going to be short for a while.

I was low on a lot of vitamins especially vitamin D so she gave me the appropriate vitamins which helped me feel nourished and gave me so much energy. For hair care products I stopped using basic drugstore brands and only used all natural products (still do). I recommend the brand “Sei Bella” by “Melaluca,” the volumizing one made my hair look fuller and thicker again. Then I started taking “St Tropica” and “Biosil” and this helped tremendously. I did hot oil masks occasionally but the hair vitamins and natural products are what helped the shedding go down. Hope this helps :) I understand the frustration and many many tears :(
