    The fake one has horrible handling noise and electronic interference as well as a more tinny sound

    you can here that the real is clean vocally when you have them back to back a clearer top end, but this has me worried that my Beta 58 might be fake, it is close

    Can you check the fake for if it has the transformer or not. This makes a huge difference in the response curve.

    Many people are buying these mics from aliexpress than putting them in the boxes with another purchase from amazon or other sites who will not go check the mics inside when they return them. What is happening is these returns are then repurchased again by legitimate buyers who are getting duped. Amazon and other sites need to start checking these returns to see if someone swapped the mics with the cheaper aliexpress ones. Watch out for these!!!

      I got told of a similar trick by a Sennheiser representative. Acc. to EU law you can return goods purchased online within 30 days and get your money back. So somebody gets a fake Sennheiser / Shure /Neumann etc. microphone and purchases an expensive real one from a legitimate dealer. He then dismantles both microphones and swapps the inards (capsule, electronics) between the two. As a result he has a fake housing with the genuine working parts and a genuine housing with fake inards. Then he sends the "real" microphone back to the seller. Now the seller does a quick visual inspection of the returned microphone and might also plug it into an amplifier, but he has neither the means nor the time to do a full audio lab test. As the Frankenphone now kind of works and doesn't have any obvious defects, he packs it up again, re.imvburses the original buyer and sells it to somebody else who then complains why the expensive Sennheiser / Shure / Neumann microphone is sounding so weird.

      @@jankrusat2150 Switching the innards is more done on higher end expensive mics as those returns will be checked visually, mic top unscrewed to see the foam, grill maybe even the wiring colour. The only way to stop this is for the Mic to send out a specific frequency that can be recorded and seen on any daw spectrometer.

      What!! That's is just B's. Do you have any factual evidence to prove this??
      Should musicians buy mics two different places and then run the risk of a being charged for fraude when they can buy a genuine Shure mic in China for 40 buck?? That is the dumbest thing I ever have heard 😮😅
      Last week I just bought 9 Shure BETA58A on Ali for 37 usd each with shipping. I can't even buy a real Shure mic on ebay or Amazon for that amount, so your accusations doesn't make any sense at all everything considered...
      Can you prove that MANY musicians are that dishonest. Please do!

    I got caught out with what now turns out to be a fake about 18 months ago. I had nothing to compare it to so it sounded ok to me and I've had no problems with it. If you get one, before you even open the box check the spelling on the back of it. Mine says detaisl instead of details and focuaed instead of focused. Had i noticed this when I purchased it I would have sent it straight back. Once you get inside the box its very hard to tell that it would be fake. The attention to detail is impressive. Another thing you can check simply is the mic clip. Comparing it to images of a real one soon reveal the difference. This is all from research I've done since finding out it's not real. I will however keep using it, as I said I've had no problems with it, I'm only a hobbyist home studio so.... It's probably just as good as some if not all of the cheaper branded budget mics you see all over the internet anyway. At least i know it's not a Shure Beta 58 A, it's just a mic that looks like one, but hey, don't all those cheap mics copy Shure's look anyway?

      I'm not knocking what you're doing. I think it's admirable. I'm just adding a couple of things to look at, ie, packaging and accessories before you even get to looking at the mic.

    I recently bought an identical microphone. Solid, very good quality housing. I'm impressed. Unfortunately, I noticed that is not resistant to dealing with the so-called handling noise - which can also be heard in this video. For those who are thinking about buying such a fake: I think this microphone will be good as just a stationary one. Not suitable for live performances. But if you have a choice, don't buy cheap mics from China.

      Good comment. The trouble now is we used to have genuine vs fake, but now we have had a new category added, genuine official and genuine unofficial - as in as soon as the big name manufacturers start to make stuff in China, B grade genuine products will find their way out of the back door. It's getting tricky.

    • @JR-lx8nn
      @JR-lx8nn 6 месяцев назад +1

      @@CouncilWatch-qz2wt Nonsense. They are real - just lower quality because they make them that way. They are made in China to the manufacturer's specifications, so they are real and the quality is going down because the manufacturers are looking to make a big profit. We see this in the garment industry - lots of manufacturers are selling lower quality goods made in off shore plants with cheap labor, cheap and lower quality raw materials, and cutting corners with cheaper methods of manufacturing. It is happening all around us. To make it even worse, companies like Harmon sell out to larger conglomerate companies that want the brand name, and they suck the value out of the products by cheapening them, and cheapening the way they are made, and what they are made of, without telling the consumer they are cheapening products down without lowering prices to make money from the brand name reputation. They will later sell the brand to a lesser concern after they suck the life out of it, and it will survive, but selling even cheaper goods with lower margin. Look at what happened to Fisher, Nakamichi, Scott, Sansui, Bell & Howell, and so many other companies that were once solid quality goods in the audio market - they were all drained of value, sold off to secondary owners, and sorely cheapened in the process. Call it corporate raiding or what you will, but that is happening all over the economy in multiple sectors. How do I know, because I was a forensic product quality lawyer for industry. Your distinction about "genuine official" and genuine "un-official" sounds made up and seems to be a fiction of your imagination. What you refer to are official goods - just lower quality made in Asian factories to suck profit from a reputable brand name. These companies are making official - not un-official - goods in China and other Asian factories, and quality has, indeed, gone down across the board. I wonder whether invent this sort of thing because you are compelled to say something on your ersatz channel. Sorry, I simply disagree with your assessment. JHT

    I have a real and fake one. The fake one has a huge problem with Phantom Power turned on. It makes a horrible electronic noise.
    My Fake one is the Switched version. Even with the switch off, the noise is apparent. Turn off phantom power and the noise is gone.
    So for voice pedals that do not have a Phantom power on off feature, the noise will be permanent.
    If you encounter this and you cannot return the fake one, you have to build a circuit to dump the phantom power. Search for "phantom power blocker circuit" and it will link you to the page where capacitors are used to remove the 48volts..

    • @pauljohnson4590
      @pauljohnson4590 3 месяца назад

      Oddly, the problem with phantom is your interface not liking the impedance? The test is to simply short out the pins 2 and 3 of the XLR socket the mic is plugged into. This should not impact at all. Unless the mic has some kind of electronics, the only difference from the Shure genuine mics is the impedance. Some have a transformer, some don't - but that's the only difference. Impedances can be very random - either very high or very low. Interesting you get this odd behaviour, but I suspect the preamp really is not liking something - and impedance is the suspect I think.

      @@pauljohnson4590 Sure but if you still have your fake one, turn on phamtom power and see if you get a horrible noise..
      I got it when the mic is simply connected with switch off.. Anyway Its one way to id the fake shure. I have another mic which also has the same problem (china unbranded) .. I just returned it.. Cost me $USD$18 for the mic -- hahaha

    • @MrEagleeye58
      @MrEagleeye58 2 месяца назад

      I just received a PASSIVE DI box with a transformer. By using this transformer the fake ones do not give out noise anymore when phamton power is on. So you are right it is an imedence issue - which the real SM58 has no such issues.

  • @JR-lx8nn

    Wow ... substantial difference in sound - the fake is much more sibilant and sharp at a distance, and, as you say, more alike in loser in sound up close. Substantially more puffing and chuffing from plosives on the fake one.
    You should not buy fake products - that gives money to product identity theives who are too lazy, cheap, and greedy to do their own design and marketing research and development. Buying cheap knock off copy cat products are both inferior and allows a low grad person to make money off another man's hard work. Just don't buy knock offs as it cheats you and the original manufacturer.
    And, if you think they sound the same ... you have little discernment. They do sound different - the fake is thinner, less full, and way more subject to chuffing from plosives - your hand held test shows this dramatically, but you fail to notice it, yourself. That really degrades your review. JHT

      I’ve just noticed a new fake mic on ebay lots of them. I’ve ordered one to try against my original. I suspect that what could be happening is these really ARE Shures but the rejected ones from the Chinese plant. This could explained why they’re very, very similar. I’ll compare them when it arrives!

    • @JR-lx8nn
      @JR-lx8nn 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@pauljohnson4590 No. They are NOT rejects from the SHURE plant. If they were rejects, they would be exactly the same as the original products in all respects, but for a blemish in the paint or some other minor flaw. Very similar does NOT make them EXACT copies ... Moreover, they are NOT rejects because A) SHURE does not sell rejects to anyone, and B) the knock offs are clearly different in several respects, and you only identified a few of these differences in your video - there are other differences as well, easily discovered if you do a full forensic comparison - I am a retired forensic lawyer for industry- while I appreciate your suggestion, I am confident SHURE does not sell rejects in retail packages with no indication they are seconds, which is illegal and enforced by the FCC in the US.
      All in good fun - thanks for the reply. JHT

    • @pauljohnson4590
      @pauljohnson4590 6 месяцев назад

      @@JR-lx8nn Sorry - I didn't mean Shure sells them, but a number of well known manufacturers seem to find production fails being sold. Even worse, the system allows an OEM company to manufacture branded items that can then be sold as made in a totally different country. If you were making Brand A parts, and somebody else wanted some 'production overuns' I bet they happen. Things like capsules. They'd go on the test jig and a percentage would be in the out of spec bin - throw away, or sell them. I doubt there is an American rep watching the factory 24/7

    • @JR-lx8nn
      @JR-lx8nn 6 месяцев назад +2

      @@pauljohnson4590 You are missing the big elephant in the room. The big give away is you and others clearly demonstrate in your videos knock off copy cat versions are physically different from legitimate products in several salient respects, proving they are close, but not exact copies. If cheap copies contained OEM parts, those parts would "surely" look like original parts because they would actually be original parts. But the fake products are clearly physically different - the handles are different size, shape, color, thickness, with different markings from real OEM or legitimate handles. Fake grilles are also different size, color, shape, from legitimate parts. Rejected microphones and parts, and OEM parts, would all look exactly like legitimate microphones and parts - they would not bear these obvious differences. Moreover, shipping boxes and packaging all bear obvious differences from legit products - so they are NOT OEM parts or SHURE factory rejects. These differences clearly belie any notion they are factory rejects or comprised of OEM parts. They are clearly fakes made from fake parts. Happy trails. All in good fun. "Take Courage" old man!!
