I would love to know your opinion on my go to lighting setup for black and white portraits, if/when you have tried it. I love to use two golden umbrellas positioned at the 4:30 and 7:30 angles. It's required setting a desired or nearly desired white balance in the camera but in my opinion for black and white portraits, the result is worth the hassle. There is usually some back or hair light but that one varies.
Great video as ever John. I bought a Fresnel a little while go - an Arri 1000. It's very powerful. Only had chance to try it once so far. As you say, takes practice to perfect. I believe Vincent Peters uses Fresnels a lot too.
I really like old BW, film noir and contrasty look. Using Q2 monochrome, ofc limited with 28mm but... I started to use orange filter on it and use in hand orange led on peoples faces. Very interesting results, skin gets whiter and almost no retouching needed. I wonder did you ever tried monochrome camera and what is your opinion on it, cause your BW portraits are really Top level. Huge respect from my side for your work and thank you for great content!
Thank you so much! I don’t think I have ever used a black and white only digital camera but but now you’re making me think about playing more with the color sliders in post.
I once used an old broom and a huge swath of cheesecloth mixed with this big hors d’ouvres dish and got some super nice shots of my cat Rosie. Nice shots John!

Thanks! What did you do with the Crudités?
@@JohnGress fed them to my friends from Springfield. They were tired of what they had been eating. 🤣
Surprisingly no one in Springfield wants Cheeto?
