“What’s your favourite genre of music” my friend once asked. I said “Leah I sorta medal like talk show gameshow with a funky beat type of thing” we’re not friends anymore.
@DopeDethrone The Beastie Boys dropped ''Licensed to Ill'' in 86, the Beasties sell a shit load of albums, hip-hop heads say they are not hip-hop, the music press calls them a ''one trick poney'' . They wanted to prove them wrong so in 89 they dropped ''Paul's Boutique'' shit sales, hip-hop heads love the album, the music press loves the album. The Beastie Boys have tons of respect from the hip-hop community. Even Chuck D says that ''Paul's Boutique'' is great.
@DopeDethrone Wow, that's a deep question. Grew up listening to a small amount of hip-hop Beastie Boys and Run-Dmc. My background is mostly Punk, Hardcore, Industrial, Goth, and various 80's music. I've actually thought about what you've asked before but personally I'm not sure how they'll go down in history. For me, they're the best all around band, hardcore at times, and pure hip-hop at other times. No gangsta' B.S. no picking sides, just straight up good music. And FUN!!
Adam (Ad-Rock) looks so tired in this interview. Must be early in the morning. And poor MCA even with a wisdom tooth pulled he managed to rap lol. ahhhhhhhhhhhh!!! love them.
@DopeDethrone The Beastie Boys seemed to have this huge rep from Licensed to Ill that they've had a hard time shaking. Their new video I fear may not help things much.. I was hoping for something a little more Modern/Mature Beastie Boys, and not something to remind people of what they, themselves have been trying to distance themselves from for all these years. Although, I will say, the Fight For Your Right - Revisited video is hilarious!
@siamesepuppy I don't think there should be much debate as to where the Beastie Boys lie in hip hop history. Anyone who is well versed in hip hop knowledge as well as music knowledge in general would have a hard time arguing against Paul's Boutique being one of the greatest of all time. It's a landmark of sampling and creativity, and most people would agree that it elevated the Beastie Boys as one of the greatest Hip Hop groups of all time. Seriously classic fucking album
@DopeDethrone interesting question. but just cos you're white doesn't mean your a safe version of a black artist. Jerry lee lewis was fuckin wild. i put the beasties in that last golden age of hip hop in the late 80s/ early 90s period with their paul's boutique, check your head & ill communication albums. for me, the b boys in that period along with de la soul, a tribe called quest and public ememy formed a high watermark for hip hop.
Interesting seeing Mike in classic footage after seeing him now. The way he held himself/talks here was so different compared to the very hipster Mike of today. I feel he may have had a little too much soy milk to drink over the years...
One of the strongest band-member synergies ever.
lol I love how in all of Beastie Boy's interviews one of them are always zoned out while the other two crack jokes with eachother lol
You mean when Adrock was high in every interview from the 90s? 😂😂

I prefer MCA.

They give such great interviews now, but back then, all they did was screw around.
Interesting seeing Mike in classic footage after seeing him now. The way he held himself/talks here was so different compared to the very hipster Mike of today. I feel he may have had a little too much soy milk to drink over the years...
what the fuck are you talking about
Love their music but their interviews are brutal.
