Who knows, but horror movies do tend to be popular, and it doesn't need to make a lot. A comic book horror could be interesting. At least DC, to me, feels like they are doing something different, unlike Marvel, which is starting to feel like wash, rinse, and repeat.
I don't think it matters that Clayface is being made before The Brave And The Bold because this universe isn't building up to anything so any writer could write a script that James likes and make it into a movie
Yea and that makes sense. I personally wish it was in the Reeves Batverse in the same vein as Penguin though. Or I wish it wasn’t happening at all. Like, just make him a villain in a Batman movie (The Batman 2 or BatB) and call it a day.
That makes no sense. The DCU is doing solo projects for characters before we get a Justice League movie, that's build up. Also, to show & prove that whoever "The Big Bad" of Chapter 1 is such a legitimate threat to where the heroes need to team up, your going to have to do build up.
@damianmorris2753 Clayface doesn't deserve his own solo project. Give The New Gods a movie with Darkseid as the main character. Darkseid is "The God Of Evil" & the things he's done & will do qualifies him as a "Monster."
The reason the heavy hitters aren't getting movies is because there are no scripts for them They aren't going to rush a Flash movie when it's not ready
But they could prioritize them. That’s not the same thing as rushing out a bad script. He could tell them “hey, let’s get working on a script for ____ and put the other obscure stuff on the back burner.” And then just put out the project that was prioritized first whenever the script is complete.
I think both of you are acting short sighted and feeding into the same kind of logic as "there can never be a good video-game movie". Penguin --even though it was a series - was good. It's about execution. Not concept and Mike Flanagan is awesome. I think it's got a shot to be good and judging this collection based on this limited information is silly.
Penguin is in an isolated universe where Batman is the only hero. So it makes sense why penguin is getting a show. Now if they made a Penguin movie as the second DCU entry it’d be cringe and gay like this clayface movie.
@VELVETVELVENIR-7q Again, I don't care. A good movie is a good movie. Under the hands of Sony, I'd worry but I've enjoyed 80% of what Mike Flanagan has created.
Mike Flanagan made Midnight Mass, The Haunting of Bly Manor, and other horror shows. He's a really good writer/director so he's pretty good hands to have a horror story in.
Not to mention great movies like Hush and Oculus. I'm definitely giving Flanagan the benefit of the doubt here, but I also agree with the Lads that this is an odd choice (and I say that as a Clayface fan)
The one thing I do like what James Gunn is doing is that he's said that this universe is already established and we are going to see stories taking place within this universe. Which honestly I do like we don't need to see Superman's origins again or seeing Bruce's parents get killed ... again. I feel like this idea is good to better differentiate from the MCU.
There's no point in making a connected universe if there aren't any connected stories. We want to see characters built up and interacting with each other.
@@RyanG0899you don’t need connected stories for a connected universe. its not going to be purely solo movies with only the titular character in them. you can easily have a batman movie where superman shows up for 10 minutes or longer.
No offense guys but comparing this to SONY is dumb af. Not only will this be set in a universe were Batman exists but also the main issues with the SONY movies is that they just sucked. If the SONY movies were good quality even without Spiderman this wouldn't be an argument. Also I like how they're having their own niche low budget movies that may potentially feel slightly separate from the overall narrative. Low risk high reward and they can reach a large range of different audiences 🔥
Something to remember with this new universe. Get the marvel logic out. He’s not building up to some big giant event. It’s just a living, breathing universe. A movie doesn’t have to lead up to 17 other movies. It’s just good storytelling.
If I understand correctly they're making it an anthology? So every movie and show would be told out of chronological order? That would be cool because it would mitigate the MCU problem of having to watch 20 hours of homework before every movie, and would instead relegate the continuity to some kind of reward for those who watched every prior piece of content
you are totally right but still, why clayface? the league has so many great heroes that haven't been brought out to the big screen with solo projects like zatanna, vixen, captain atom, martian manhunter with etc
I’m perfectly fine with a clay face movie 🍿 I think this version of Dc is better off just telling stories without them building up to some event yet it doesn’t have to be.
@@jaysonjoyce9708 Todd Phillips's first Joker movie is not a good comic book movie, though, literally never seen a comic book fan who saw the movie and said "Wow, it's very good, and I'm so satisfied by this portrayal of the Joker"; it's always "Wow, it's very good, but this isn't a Joker movie at all, they just used the name for recognizability". A "what we got is good, but not what we asked for" situation may result in a good product, sure; but I'd rather have a "what we got is okay, and what we asked for" kind of situation.
This isn’t a connected universe in the same way as marvel, instead of “starting with the heavy hitters” they are just letting creatives make the movies and shows they want to make while also having some connected elements. It’s not like the MCU where projects are designed to lead into one another, it’s more just play around with the toy box of a connected universe. The problem with joker 2 is nobody really wanted to make it, they only made it for the money, but lots of creatives at WB have passion for a clay-face movie.
I have a lot of faith in James Gunn because I was a James Gunn fan before I even knew who James Gunn was, I like 90% of projects that he was involved with, before I decided to Google the director of the guardians of the Galaxy, and saw his filmography, and realized I was a fan
Tbf it’s hard not to. So far the MCU is the only well run big cinematic universe. That’s kind of the template to go off of, more or less. DC tried to do the opposite approach before and it didn’t work. But maybe this approach that’s still different from Marvel/the MCU will work.
@@akilbrazier1421 yeah true, Gunn said they're taking star wars approach and star wars did pretty good except the shitty writing in some major projects
I remember before James Gunn took over, DC was announcing tons of movies that never even made it past the script or casting phases. Granted, it's still early days so the projects that Gunn is greenlighting may actually get made, but it really feels like he's counting his chickens before they hatch. Can we just slow down and wait to see how Superman does before we start giving movies to every D list DC character?
Love you boys but I disagree with y’all on this one. Other people have said it in the comment section already but this universe is not going to be like Marvel where all the movies are connected and are going to lead to this big, universe ending event. Each movie will be separate and the focus will be on storytelling. So, I don’t have any problem with them making a Clayface movie because of that. Let’s just remain patient and let Gunn cook.
Respect🦇❤️ Sure, not all the movies have to lead into a big event, that’s why we even stated that projects like Swamp Thing are exciting. We’re more so just disappointed that Gunn/ DC Studios are focusing their efforts on obscure villain spinoff movies rather than [properly] bringing to life characters we’ve waited years to see adapted on screen😊
@comiclads would you prefer to have projects shelved when they have a scrip and director waiting to go? I don't think batman would happen faster if clayface was paused.
Love you boys more and I agree with y’all on this one. Movies CANNOT be compared to the willy nilly silly cock-a-dilly nature of comic books where anything can be drawn and written in a blink of an eye. Movies take time and actors age and retire. People want JL vs some big villain and you are intentionally obtuse to not prioritize that before Corn sweat ages out the role. You might as well tell separate stand alone stories if nothing is being built up to drum up excitement.
I actually really like this idea because usually when we get a Batman movie or Superman movie we can look at other stories and kind of see where we're going to get some inspiration from. But with movies like Clayface, there are no clay face stories to take inspiration from. So I think it's more fun what they're doing.
Firstly, what gets made first is whatever script is finished first, secondly villain stories can absolutely work the first joker and penguin proved that. Thirdly i dont think they are making an antihero clayface. Forthly it like the fact that its suppose to be a low budget horror tragedie written by a very talented and famous writer
I don't think it's been confirmed that the Clayface movie will take place in the interconnected universe (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Gunn has said there's still gonna be elseworld projects, so this could be one of those.
You guys are expecting them to follow the Marvel formula & James Gunn has stated multiple times that’s not what they’re doing. Clayface can be it’s own thing and it can exist in the DCU but every movie they make doesn’t need to serve the next. They obviously have a good script for the movie so they’re going to make it, you don’t have to watch it.
People are acting like DC didn’t just put out one of the WORST standalone Superhero ‘Villain’ movies with Joker 2😂 As far as I’m concerned, these villain movies are getting old FAST
I mean Matt Reeves who was involved in making the penguin show, is producing the claycface movie. Mike Flanagan the horror god is writing the script. I’m not concerned at all.
I’m not worried at all tbh, creature commandos has been solid. Matt Reaves and Mike Flanagan are making ClayFace. penguin was peak. Superman and Lois is underrated As hell. I’m excited af.
I think yall are overblowing this announcement ngl. Honestly, I think Gunn and Reeves are trolling us. Let Gunn and reeves cook, these guys are yet to miss. Wouldn’t be surprised if Pattinson ends up being our Batman
I mean, I wouldn’t say they’re overblowing it. DC Studios keeps announcing projects that nobody asked for over and over again in a universe/franchise that doesn’t have its footing yet. Could they be good? Sure. But people are right to be concerned or wonder where’s our ___ project that fans actually want.

Iron Man and Hulk (especially Hulk) were their next biggest names and sure as shit they started off with them. With GotG, that was when the MCU was well established by then, so they could then take a little risk by using the even lesser known characters. @@roguerex292 I also wouldn’t say that even a majority of the 30 MCU movies are movies that nobody asked for or at least don’t make sense as to why they’re being made.
Pretty much all my hesitation is outweighed by the fact that it seems like Mike Flanagan really wants to make a spooky comic book movie and they’re letting him do it
I don’t care if the third DCU movie is an Arm-Fall-Off-Boy movie as long as it’s written and directed by someone talented and passionate about the project. If people like Mike Flanagan are being given the opportunity to share a dc story, I think that’s great. I like that these stories are individual tales that don’t rely on an overarching narrative. It gives the world a chance to zoom in and give quality dc stories. That’s where DC had always shined the most, when it gets close and personal.
Idc that Flash movie was last year, if he thinks he doesn’t NEED a Barry Allen and ASAP in ANY DC universe he’s TRIPPIN beyond all measure, he thinks he can do a CLAYFACE MOVIE of all things before Flash he’s straight up crazy

“Knives Out meets The Thing on a horror movie set” is just one of the premises I came up with off the top of my head. I think that saying you can’t see how a Clayface movie could work is a bit of uncreativity on your guy’s part ngl If anything, I have MORE faith in the project because it wasn’t on the slate or an IP-driven pitch - meaning that Mike Flanagan is actually passionate about the story, and the script was surprising enough that it impressed James Gunn. I say we let them cook before we pass judgement on this.
If there is any blame for the Clayface film coming out in 2026 before a Batman film then blame the people who can’t figure out a great story for the tv shows and films already announced. Gunn said from the beginning he is not gonna rush the creative process for his filmmakers otherwise bad product will be put out. Flanagan had a pitch and completed script that they thought was good so why not green light it and get it ready for production instead of letting it sit on a shelf for years.
They forgot how peak "Feat of Clay" was from Batman TAS, and with Mike Flanagan as writer, no expectations or ideas of what the movie should be, from the outside viewers, giving them completely freedom, they are gonna cook with Clayface.
Trying to compare and contrast Sony villains to with Gunn’s DCU isn’t even fair. James is proven, and has made excellent movies. Horror, action, and etc. Clayface HORROR movie is an excellent idea for a comic film. Making villains actually scary , and evil, how they should be. (the Penguin)
Too much Batman happening recently, we could potentially see Batman appear in this movie as supporting character instead of a main character. ANYTHING. Have faith.
You have a right to be worried but you need to remember that they won’t put something in production if the script isn’t ready or good. And Mike Flanagan wrote the script and so far he hasn’t missed.
Blud we have literally gotten hundreds of Batman movies for the last 20 years now it would be nice to see a non Batman Gotham movie for once like the first joker or the penguin (joker 2 doesn’t exist)
The comments covered most of what I'd say but essentially.. this aint the MCU. Gunn is doing his own thing.. in terms of comics he hasnt missed. Idc if you dont like it culturally and box office he he hasnt missed. Let him cook and well see if our fears are justified after.
I don’t see why yall love Tom King so much after Heroes in Crisis, The Gift, and how much he shoehorns in his hate boner for America. He’s why the Lanterns show is going to be terrible
To be honest, the first movie of the Universe isn't even out yet. Gunn loves comic books, unlike executives in Disney and Sony. I won't say I'm hype, but I'm very curious about what it could be. For Clayface ; The Penguin TV series works despite the absence of Batman in it, and that's not Spidey absence that makes Sony "Spiderman" Universe doesn't work, it's just that it's poorly written, filmed, and acted. For the roadmap, I think we have to try to distinguish it from the way Marvel does its phases. Maybe that's part of its strength, but for me the fact that all the Marvel movies are connected is also a big weakness; we have very few movies that really stand on their own. Everything has to be connected, to the point where it doesn't feel like movies anymore, but like 2-hour episodes of a TV series that's been around for 10 years. We'll see what happens next, but James Gunn's roadmap seems to work like a universe where each film is connected, but each film is a unique and thoughtful project. So I want to let Gunn cook
Personally I don’t see any issue with Clayface being the 3rd movie. Clayface is already a very interesting character so I’m sure Gunn will do it justice
Despite the announcement about them making a movie about a glob of shit, im still optimistic. And they dont have start with "heavy hitters" heavy hitters ruin a franchise. People want new things.
I understand the concept of like “what is the move?” Because that is BIZARRE. But as much as I love y’all DEARLY like seriously huge fan, I think putting Gunn on the same caliber as Sony is utterly disrespectful. Idk if they are gonna put Batman in the Clayface movie, but Clayface is also in Creature Commandos. Sure, a big gripe of the Sony universe is “No Spider-Man”. But my even bigger gripe is that the movies are shit and there is no connection between them. As much as Venom’s movies anger me that Spider-Man isn’t involved, I’m more mad the movies suck and don’t build up to anything. We don’t have to worry about that here, because Clayface is in Creature Commandos, setting up his movie, then his movie will probably have Batman and Robin, setting up The Brave and The Bold! It’s fine, boys! Just let him cook!
Respect👊❤️ We know James Gunn is gonna make better movies than Sony, we’re just comparing the decision that both studios have/ are making to focus on solo-villain movies. We aren’t saying we’re going to hate the movie - it will probably be enjoyable - we’re just more frustrated with the fact that we’re getting a solo Clayface movie BEFORE getting to see characters we’ve been waiting years to see done right on screen first. 😊
@ Sure! I get it! I want a Green Lantern movie and a Lobo movie so bad! I think the Lanterns series is one of their weirder projects, but for someone who watched the first GL movie bomb horribly, him making another one with Hal Jordan that’s exactly like the other one but better is probably not going to persuade a lot of casual fans to see it, whereas something that’s FUNDAMENTALLY different might get people to watch it, even if they are hatewatching at first. If the series does well and gathers a general audience, then I’m POSITIVE we see a Green Lanterns movie against Sinestro corps or Attrocitus and the Red Lanterns. I’ve heard the GL show is gonna showcase the big villain of the DCU which that could be Centre like the rumors are saying, but it could also be the Black Lanterns?
Yea an incredible track record directing movies and shows. He’s never ran a cinematic universe though. Those two things are very different. Not saying he won’t do a good job though. In fact, I range from on the fence to cautiously optimistic for the DCU. But I’m waiting until Superman and then a couple other projects come out before I put my full faith in him.
Bad take..a low budget horror film by one of the most talented horror writers/directors about an extremely underrated villain is a wonderful idea. Flanagan has a lot of reverence for the Clayface episode of TAS and the One Bad Day issue? I mean come on. These guys are incapable of seeing these from anything other than face value.
The reason people are all confused is because they assume every project is meant to be building to some big event movie. That’s just not what Gunn is concerned about. He just wants to make some great movies to earn DC’s rep back. THEN bring movies together
Oh my god you guys just don’t get it, they are world building not story building, don’t you want different types of films? Superman being an action romantic epic, supergirl being a sci-fi space adventure and now clay face being a horror thriller; idk about you but I’m glad they’re taking a completely different route than marvel y’all just sound like little girls
The only thing I can say is that WB had their chances for heavy hitters & it’s been YEARS that we ALWAYS see the same main 3 which are Batman, Superman, & Wonder Woman. Look I understand they’re the heavy hitters no matter what I understand but there’s literally a lot of characters that can be used in a very good possible way even way BETTER than the trinity or anyone else that’s in the A list of characters & that’s why I love about James that he’s going to use B & C list characters to prove that superhero movies or even comics doesn’t have to be all about A list characters
I think its an interesting direction. They’re adding horror esc films with Swamp thing and Clayface (i assume if Mike Flanagan is writing Clayface). It helps the content feel different and not the same like mcu films
These are characters' spotlight movies. James Gunn said that if theirs a good script, then it can be made. If it's a good script, then I wanna watch the film. The penguin was a good example of a villain focus project. It doesn't have to be this hyper connected universe. It's just a story that's in the universe. The only issue I see is marketing the movie.
You guys are trying to compare DCU with the blueprint that Marvel Studios did with the MCU. That is not James Gunn's plan because he said the idea for the new universe is just world-building with different timelines and global periods inside the DCU films. On the other hand, Marvel's blueprint was to tell a single story (i.e. Infinity Stones) and build up to a big bad that is not what James Gunn is following nor should he because that would get old fast. The general audience is tired of doing homework and the need to watch every single movie for them to understand what going on in the universe. For instance, just like with the comics you don't need to read every single comic that comes out to understand these characters. If the DCU is to be a success it needs to make its own identity and with good stories with filmmaking from talented directors and writers and anybody can choose which movie or TV show they are excited to go watch. Additionally, I think you two can watch this interview where James Gunn explains everything about the upcoming DC Universe canon: ruclips.net/video/3tYsh2qT_aU/видео.html
while i'm not personally interested in a clayface movie (unless it reviews well), i think this is a good sign for the DCU! i think it shows gunn is more interested in green-lighting projects based on the promise of the pitch/the creators involved rather than how each project contributes to the meta-story of the franchise. to me that shows he's less interested in copying the MCU's approach of a fully planned out timeline and more interested in having the DCU feeling like a lived in universe, where characters don't need to be introduced in order, you just kind of assume they're all there doing their thing and their movie could come at any point, if/when a good enough pitch/creative team is present!
You're assuming a lot here. There's been no mention that he's going to be sympathetic. It's being described as a body horror slasher movie which makes it sound like it's concept first over churning out a movie like Sony. James Gunn said that a great script is the focus and if there's one here it should be. Great! Clayface is already a part of the universe in creature commandos anyway. Plus the penguin just came out, villian projects can work without batman!
My theory is that James Gunn knows just how ridiculous that movie lineup is with clayface coming before Batman (Because how can he not?) and he has some kind of trick up his sleeve that he's waiting to show us and surprise us with. Idk, I'm just gonna trust the process and wait until after the movies come out to give my critiques. He killed it with the guardians of the Galaxy series, he killed it with suicide squad, and he killed it with peacemaker. So hopefully he'll keep on cooking and this clayface movie is just a facade for something bigger that we're not expecting.
@@loggieboy9921 I imagine it being a clay face origin story with Batman as the main antagonist. Almost like a horror movie and Batman is the monster. Clay face can start out as a criminal, hearing the different horror stories about The Dark Knight since at this point he's still seen as an urban legend. Maybe even having a few close calls with Batman until the final act where he gets turned into Clayface and we finally get our first good look at Batman for the final battle.
I think Clayface coming is fine as long its good writing and a good acting etc this first part is Monsters and God clay face is good because clay face is scary and looks like a monster etc
I have a friend that absolutely loves batman, while not giving other superheroes much attention. I told him about clayface being in the works and he got estatic that he was getting something, so I guess its to appeal to casual fans?
Also, how the hell did you think the Snyderverse went from Superman to essentially its civil war made more sense than Superman, followed by a singular character introduction movie.
All we do is hear about his DCU & have yet to see ANYTHING from it. It's getting tiresome, are we even going to be that invested by the time it finally starts coming out?
Clayface is arguably one of the villains you can make a solo film about and never reference the hero once and it still be a solid film fans will love. His lore is so rich and full that it can truly be its own stand alone film. His entanglements with batman are arguably his least interesting moments
But we like the post credit scenes! It builds up hype for future projects plus it’s like a comic book movie tradition pretty much lol. But I see what you’re saying about “relying” on them to introduce new characters and stuff.

tbh the only things that bother me with the clayface movie is it coming out in the timeline so early and also saying he's not being portrayed as a bad guy
Yall yapping today, a horror clayface movie could expand a lot on gotham preparing us for the whole batfamily taking olace in the movies, they spread the seeds, then reveal the main things. I mean youll say no to a good clayface movie? Also them chamging the plan is better than rushing the necessary movie to come out in time, its better where its separated and it gives place to characters and the world instead of just wauting for them to kill one bad guy after 15 years Also clayface is fundamentally a good guy turned evil
I think a Clayface movie could be very good as a sort of body horror movie where he has something tragic happen to him but he becomes evil as a product of it.
The MCU kind of had the advantage of happening by accident. It just started as one movie and a cameo at the end of Hulk. I think it’s a huge task to put an entire universe together from the jump.
I disagree, first of all Swamp Thing is my all time favorite comic book character. Secondly, Mudslide Matt Hagan’s Clayface voiced by Ron Perlman was the first time in my childhood I actually felt sorry for a villain. The imagery of him melting away in the rain has stuck with me since the day it aired. I love that Gunn focuses on more off brand characters. Not to mention Booster Gold another hero I have always loved. I’ve been a huge James Gunn fan since slither and when Super came out I knew he could make great comic book films.
If the universe was set up like the MCU where it's all a complete over-arching story I would agree that Clayface being the 5th official installment and even Creature Commandos being 1st is insane however the way the DCU has been explained is that it's aiming for quality scripts and good movies that can be viewed individually without having to watch everything else to get it. Bluntly, I think turning away a writer who put passion into making a good script and then completely disregarding their work just because the character is obscure, a villain, not a big name etc. would be the exact opposite of what the DCU is meant to be.
I understand your frustration aspecially since it''s weird to do a batman villain movie before the batman movie but i have a strong hunch that it would be interesting, i just saw you guys break down the clay face episode in the animated series and he is fascinating. Also the difference between this and the sony vilain movies is that story comes first. James Gunn is certainly taking an unconventional way of establishing a universe but i'm all for as long as it's quality
I'm really hoping that Batman will be the opposer to Clayface in this movie and this is Batman earlier on in the DCU since Brave and the Bold will be about an older Batman so this could be our chance to see a younger Batman building his reputation.

Penguin is in an isolated universe where Batman is the only hero. So it makes sense why penguin is getting a show. Now if they made a Penguin movie as the second DCU entry it’d be cringe and gay like this clayface movie.

The reason Creature Commandos is first is because it was already in the world before James Gunn became the DC Studios CEO
Same with Clayface. They were rumours about Flanagan pitching it during the pandemic with the old regime. Flanagan even deleted the old tweets
And has connections with dceu 😅😅😅😅😅
Something to remember with this new universe. Get the marvel logic out. He’s not building up to some big giant event. It’s just a living, breathing universe. A movie doesn’t have to lead up to 17 other movies. It’s just good storytelling.
If I understand correctly they're making it an anthology? So every movie and show would be told out of chronological order? That would be cool because it would mitigate the MCU problem of having to watch 20 hours of homework before every movie, and would instead relegate the continuity to some kind of reward for those who watched every prior piece of content

Like Todd Phillips first joker movie, clay face can be a stand alone horror movie for the masses plus for the comic community.
Problem is it’s not stand alone. It’s part of the DCU.

@SaintsFan09-z3s that is a really strong point.
The first TV show already started connected with suicide squad, who is part of dceu 🤣🤣🤣
I actually really like this idea because usually when we get a Batman movie or Superman movie we can look at other stories and kind of see where we're going to get some inspiration from. But with movies like Clayface, there are no clay face stories to take inspiration from. So I think it's more fun what they're doing.
I feel like the Lanterns show is gunna give like a MIB 1 vibe like same space cop mentor and apprentice relationship
It's mike Flanagan writing the guy can cook with horror
Firstly, what gets made first is whatever script is finished first, secondly villain stories can absolutely work the first joker and penguin proved that. Thirdly i dont think they are making an antihero clayface. Forthly it like the fact that its suppose to be a low budget horror tragedie written by a very talented and famous writer
I don't think it's been confirmed that the Clayface movie will take place in the interconnected universe (feel free to correct me if I'm wrong). Gunn has said there's still gonna be elseworld projects, so this could be one of those.
If I’m not mistaken Ironman was not popular at all pre-Ironman movies and was probably a B/C tier character, and look at what that did
You guys are expecting them to follow the Marvel formula & James Gunn has stated multiple times that’s not what they’re doing.
Please please James Gunn don’t fuck up DC
the cool part of this universe is that it exists on its own timeline its already established and exists the stories just tell parts of it
They forgot how peak "Feat of Clay" was from Batman TAS, and with Mike Flanagan as writer, no expectations or ideas of what the movie should be, from the outside viewers, giving them completely freedom, they are gonna cook with Clayface.

Since Clayface is made on a low budget by Mike Flanagan, for now it's not a red flag for me.

First take I heavily disagree with you guys… 😔
The entire point of this phase is gods and monsters. Why we started with creature commandos and going into Superman
Personally I don’t see any issue with Clayface being the 3rd movie. Clayface is already a very interesting character so I’m sure Gunn will do it justice
Mike Flanagan, not Gunn. And Flanagan knows what he's doing.
Very respectful and well written takes
I think this rant is misplaced guys and you missed the mark on this one. Gunn deserves nothing but faith due to his incredible track record

@ I always do💯 Barda and Orion would have to be in it. Think Tom King(I know that’s what you two were thinking)
Clayface is in my top 3 batman villains, and now I'm terrified hes gonna get the mcu venom treatment
It sounds like these guys prefer shitty movies with big names rather than having good movies whether small or big.
while i'm not personally interested in a clayface movie (unless it reviews well), i think this is a good sign for the DCU!
i think it shows gunn is more interested in green-lighting projects based on the promise of the pitch/the creators involved rather than how each project contributes to the meta-story of the franchise.
to me that shows he's less interested in copying the MCU's approach of a fully planned out timeline and more interested in having the DCU feeling like a lived in universe, where characters don't need to be introduced in order, you just kind of assume they're all there doing their thing and their movie could come at any point, if/when a good enough pitch/creative team is present!
Plus the penguin just came out, villian projects can work without batman!
half of this video was just repeating the same five words, while just trying to shit on the DCU
Yo maybe it will be a horror focus Batman movie where clay face is obviously the main villain and it goes for a body horror theme

I think you guys are getting it wrong. He’s not building a universe he’s just making movies that are in a universe. He can do what he wants.
That's literally the exact same thing but without chronology
Yes, I am very excited for clayface and swamp thing!
Bluntly, I think turning away a writer who put passion into making a good script and then completely disregarding their work just because the character is obscure, a villain, not a big name etc. would be the exact opposite of what the DCU is meant to be.
not really it gurantte money a movie like clayface is not going do that
I feel like james gunn just got a really good clayface script so he went ahead and greenlit the movie
2:20 you realise that the avengers were b list characters before the mcu
I understand your frustration aspecially since it''s weird to do a batman villain movie before the batman movie but i have a strong hunch that it would be interesting, i just saw you guys break down the clay face episode in the animated series and he is fascinating. Also the difference between this and the sony vilain movies is that story comes first.
James Gunn is certainly taking an unconventional way of establishing a universe but i'm all for as long as it's quality
Same
I'm really hoping that Batman will be the opposer to Clayface in this movie and this is Batman earlier on in the DCU since Brave and the Bold will be about an older Batman so this could be our chance to see a younger Batman building his reputation.
That would be sick
This isn’t the mcu or dawg poop righting like Sony did. These stories aren’t necessarily connected they are just in a shared universe but each one is allowed to have their own style
